Jock Horror 3 week Perpetual Harvest

Thanks,

The design looks pretty decent man. I am a big fan of simple plumbing as complex designs make complex problems lol.

I will run my system like ur's off one main reservoir, with one main pump for all tanks. Water flows inbetween naturally, but when it is spraying it sucks all water into one main tank for the recirc factor. Although I'm gonna have a shit load of air stones.

I just dumbed down your version into something I can work with lol. Yours is looking good though man.

Looks Good. I see the piping you removed, but not sure if I clarified that is a trellis and not plumbing.
The Spray manifold actually runs straight across the middle of the lid from top down and sits directly on the lid of the res.
Be real interested in seeing pics when you build yours! It should work great.

Sad to report that I found a significant amount of bud rot last night.

I feel so stupid. There is so much I still dont know. I should have caught it from the start but I didnt and It got into all my biggest buds. I was forced to chop them half way through week 9:-(:-(

In total it infected 4 plants all the biggest ones. After trimming them down last night it looks to have rotted about an oz worth of beautiful bud.
Been battling crazy humidity and should have gotten more ventillation.

Hi There!

I cant be of much help - but I'm definitely a fan of your journal! I acquired some jock horror autoflower (I think) seeds last year and I am getting ready to set up an aeroponics rig for the first time. I'm scared and nervous lol. I know the basics, but I'm also learning as I go. So far I have purchased as much equipment as I can afford right now which is: 6700K cfl bulbs, large tote container, 3/4" pvc piping (two pieces will be used to make two channels - I think this might be good to prevent as much runoff as possible), 2 fish tank pumps, and foxfarm grow big hydro nutes.

I just got a ph meter, but am waiting for some solution to calibrate. As soon as I get that I will be germinating! Yay!!

Maybe you can help me out? I am really walking into this blindly and I want it to work right the first time. I am not an engineer, but I work in that sort of industry (architecture/green design) so I can understand the concepts, but I'm poor so I cant afford all the fancy equipment lol.

Is there any specifics about the strain that I need to know? IE how much light hours for veg and approximately what I should look for in growth. My setup is small probably a grow cabinet about 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep. This is to house a mom or two or three...

I'm just so nervous and this is whats been holding me back for the last year! I want to get it started :)

Any encouragement/advice is greatly greatly appreciated!!!

thanks in advance and keep up the great work!!! its inspiring!

Just a suggestion for your humidity: Try using charcoal - There is a kind of charcoal that is chemical free and is used (frequently by chinese and koreans) for bbq and reducing humidity and smells in closets and around the home. They can get saturated so switching them out (ie have two sets you can use and dry the other) will help. I googled it and it has been used by other indoor gardeners and horticulturalists (of any type) to prevent root rot and reduce humidity. Its an all natural and cheap way to help reduce the moisture!!! Bonus, it helps remove toxins from the air as it is a great natural filter.

The design for the spray manifold is much more crucial for the cloning units than for the Flower units.
For fresh cutting to thrive, It is important to hit all sites with sufficient water - especially when running the time schedules that I do.

So far the biggest problems I had with DIY aero spray units is dry spots. They can cause clones to pop roots a lot slower than the rest of the pack and that can screw with the perpetual schedule big time.

After that it has been flimsy construction of the PVC manifold that causes the unit to tip over in the Reservoir. Especially under the weight of the big plants root ball. This new design adresses both issues.

Spray heads are offset, inserted at angles and rotated to cover all sites.
Inaddition the PVC specs fit the manifold exactly to the edge of the reservoirs wich acts like legs and prevents tipping.
hey man just wanted to thank you for the whole design layout of your cloner i just built one for about 70 bucks and it seems to be great. the one problem i had is dry spots as well with the sprayer design you have there is literally not a square inch thats not getting it thanks again if i could give you rep again i would but just know +rep for you on the great desighn my friend.

o and the only thing i changed was from 3/4 to 1/2 imch pvc because when i went to home depot thats just what im used to getting (creature of habit) but it seems to be working well and the other is i used a 500 gph pump.

Well I just spent the better part of the last 5 days trimming.Glad that is over with.
As it turned out the bud rot ended up affecting about 50% of the 1st crop and took a total of about 2 oz of precious medicine.

I feel very fortunate however to have caught it when I did and to have been able to salvage most of the crop. That shit can be very contagious. Due to the early harvest however, I will not be able to collect the type of data I wanted to so I guess we'll call this 1st crop the trial run. On to the next one

Shyt man... Real sorry to hear. Definatly with ur type of opp it'd be worth the investment to pop a big ol' dehumidifier in the room to control the humidity. Well at least u saved the main part of the bud I hope. Still sub'd and waiting for next round.

No dehumidifier. Strangely enough things have mellowed out a lot in the past few days. Im averaging in the low 40's and not spiking above 52. I got a powerful air mover for the room and installed it in the rafters to blow down at an angle off the wall. It creates a draft throughout the whole room. Now that the first crop is done I can take all reservoirs out and clean them and the rest of the room thoroughly.

I am runnigng a baselined system and i dont really know a whole lot about this strain yet other than the fact that I really like smoking it. I have my Jock Horror vegging under T5's for 24 hrs currrently but plan on going back to 18 starting next week to conserve energy.

Flowering is all about what size you want your end height to be.
Ill assume you're running an aero/hydro set up so you can expect explosive growth from whatever strain you have.If your space is 8 feet tall for example you first have to determine the max height your plant can grow in that space. For instance say your plants sit in 5 gal buckets and start 1ft off the floor. then assume your light will hang another 1 ft from the ceiling wehn maxed out. subtract that 2 feet from 8 feet and you have 6 feet total allowable space for growth.

A basic rule of thumb for flowering growth is that plants will on average double in size during flowering. For my Jock Horror they are so far holding to that average.

So if you know you plants will double in size then the maximum height you can veg them to before you start flowering is HALF your allowable space for growth (in the example above that would be 3 ft)

Interesting, I will definately look into that.:leaf:

Sweet! Looks Great. The smaller 1/2 PVC along with the higher GPH pump should make your jets super powerful. One important reminder though. you should definately look into making a cover for your lid. I recorded my root sprout times before and after the addition of the cover and found that it took about 3 days on avg off of my sprout times. Plus, it is surpriisingly bright in there without it and that could promote alge growth.

The only bitch about it is that the in and out design of the lid makes it annoyingly painstaking to cut out a simple plastic cover for it. That is why i made a wooden template to do it. that way I can cut them in 5 sec when even I need them.

Another note. My first crop was run without the black plastic covers and I had a lot of problems with spray getting out from under the sites. most of the time it just dirtied up the lid but a few times it totally sprayed down the lower buds and that sucked. The addition of the plastic covers has stopped this from happening.

Hey mic I have a question for ya. I'm building a new perpetual scrog aero/rdwc set up.

I was curious how long do your roots get in veg and flower usually with your plants ? Do they end up sitting in the water fast or take a while ?

I have plans for making the same veg and flower units using the strong boxs. 8 plants in 6in net pots sprayer manifold inside with 700gph+ pump to both run the sprays and recirculate the water to a remote reservoir. Sick of lifting the lid all the time and I am going to get a nice air pump for good oxygenation. With a scrog there is much other choice not being able to move the plants eventually.

Inspired. I'm also currently growing jack herer, in coco, I have just cut some clones and will be starting up the ole turbogarden(aero) when they root. I'm definately going to be expanding my system using your design. Thanks so much for all of your great info and pics.

you are right ran it for a few days with no cover on the lid and wow it got hot in there so i used some aluminum tape on the lid and you where not lying about the shape of the lid what a bitch lol but it helped allot temps are now down to 70 from 90 lol with a occasional frozen water bottle.

now i just have a ? how often do your sprayers kick on? all i have is a 30 min timer but im going to go get a min timer tomorrow
thanks again

The sprayers are on for 1.5 hrs and off for 30 mins. Mine is a 30 min cheapo timer as well; configured as in the photo. I consider it the high end for the timing window but I chose to run this configuration as part of my long term data collection. I'll keep it for a year and then go to the low extreme.

Nice to hear. Glad to be of help. Hopefully this information can really help the paitents out there who need it most.
I would love to see some pics when you get them.
Thanks for stopping by!
