what the heck, amazon and gothams site isnt selling the 500 or the 240 anymore. anyone know whats up with this.
maybe because my father got pissed off that a 240w panel only has 120w of power drivers in it and called them out for being deceptive

the 240w onlyhas 120w of drivers heres the pic each one about 40w theyre too tiny to do much more than that

heworked for texas instruments as an engineer you cant pull a fast one on him electronics is his game

This info isn't purely based on the physical size of them is it?

what it is is companies doing this: Hey we put 80 3w LEDs in this panel thus it is a 240w!
But this is misleading because you can't actually run LEDs at their max wattage because they will produce too much heat over light (less efficient if running too high) so they have to be run at half or 3/4. I think 2w LEDs and 3w LEDs both run about 1.5w most of the time.

So always be sure people to make sure of the true wattage before buying. You wouldn't want to fill an area with what you think is enough light only to end up with half as much as you thought you paid for!

Does this mean 3W diodes are overkill? are we just as good with 2W? This info is very interesting to me...... how are people saying the 3W penetrates better than the 2W if they all run at 1.5? how can a 3W device only draw 1.5?

dad says diodes can't draw more than 20 30 milamps naturally they have to have anything higher forced through them so you actually have to push a diode to full power so you would underpower the diode to make it not consume full power

I believe 3w lights running at 1.5w put out the most light and penetrate more than a 2w running at 1.5w or even those 3w LEDs that are simply three 1 watts together under the same diode/lens. It definitely isn't overkill, you want 3w instead of 2w unless that color/spectrum/wavelength isn't available in 3w

Maybe they are out of the units (BlackStar) didn't Ray just buy up 18 of 240 panels? That would put a dent in a small overhead I would think.

If you HAD to buy one... i would get the super bright

both are insanely too much money IMO... check out 357magled.com or growledhydro.com or hydroponicshut.com or blackstars off ebay

those are much more reasonably priced and proven lights... Not that those 2 you named are BAD, just not as proven and you can get a lot more wattage at lower price elsewhere

Thanks for you help Cereall
I have a little experience with LED lights and Im likeing the Steathgrow man

Not saying its a bad light... im sure its a great light

Hydroponics hut has 90 day money back
grow led hydro has 120 day money back

im sure you are looking into the SG602? For that price you can but 4 of the 260w units i use and that covers a larger area and more watts

But if you do get the SG light... please do a journal or keep us posted... real curious to see if you get double the production for double the money... they look like great units, would love to see in action

327w is too little for that money, you could get a 450w Spectra for $1300 or less and its probably a better light in every way (also good 5 year warranty). Oops, of those 2 you suggessted I would go with neither. 1w diodes are weak, and the other light charges atleast $500 more than its really worth. If your set up is large enough I would go with 3-4 180w Spectras or 2 280w Spectras, but if your space is less than 4x4 I'd settle for the 450w (I'm rocking a 450w Spectra in my 2.5ftx2.5ft tent and its awesome). growledhydro.com is a bit outdated, but the pricing and watt ratings are correct. Pictures are out of date, here is they're basic look.

Ok is what my 395w Spectra looks like

If not spectras I would personally have gone Kessil or Blackstar (Blackstar is to McDonalds as Spectra is to RedRobins, Kessils would be... hmm I dunno lol)

I hooked up an ammeter and they draw 167 watts each
so 668 actual draw... and i paid around 1600$ shipped

if you purchase multiple units like that most manufacturers will give you a price break

if you are seriously interested, i suggest you contact a few different stores and see their opinion
just tell hydroponics hut, if you choose to contact them, cereall sent you and they might be able to help a little more...
-i am in no way an employee of theirs or receive any payments or benefits... just extremely happy with their lights. I have referred numerous caregivers i know of in real life and they are all thanking me and glad they purchased from them also as they got a decent amount of savings.... LEDs are expensive enough and i would hate to see somebody overpay when they couldve gotten similar results at half the price

hey you crazy LED growers I think I may join your nutty club here haha .. I am comparing HPS to the HydroHuts 600w equiv. . I will be growing in about a ~4x4 area and planning to scrog maybe 1 or 2 plants and was hoping to get some advice from you guys who have grown scrog and/or LED in similar places. Thanks.

I had hydro huts 550w but swapped it out for multiple 260w units just so I run lights at different heights. Was a great light and covered 4x4 area easy

man i dun see how these guys are making sales 36w for almost 300 bones i see a 300w panel using 3w diodes for 850 why would i pay 300 for almost a tenth the power

hey all, im gonna need some advice on this one. ive finally decided i want to purchase the Pro grow 180w cree(please let me kno if this sucks) for 319 on hydroponicshut.com but upon further searching for the product i found that the same light on ebay is going for about 110 bux..?!?!????? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2011-model-180w-HO-Cree-LED-7-Band-Grow-Light-UFO-/270707723817?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0.......now they look like theyre the same exact thing but wtffff is up with the price diff. should i go with the one on ebay or the one from hyrdroponics hut?? i kno its kinda obvious to go with the cheaper one, but i just need another view.http://www.hydrogrowled.com/63W-Penetrator-LED-Grow-Light--P44.aspx
