What makes it acceptable for this show to be on the air, but not something arguably equally as "entertaining"?
Clear cut hypocrisy right there as far as I can tell. Since millions of people watch it, and nobody is dying or breaking the law, it's considered "acceptable" programming, and this isn't a problem.
So is it detrimental for a kid to see shit like this, the real world, American Idol, etc.? Keep in mind, your average American these days gets between 4-5 hours of tv a day...

i agree with you padawan..but this is America...and if people wanna watch shit on tv, i guess they have that right..my tv bounces in between history, discovery, science, and military channel...i dont even know what channel mtv is..
and i dont believe its the tv's fault..if parents are letting their kids watch this shit, then its the parents fault.

one word: money. jersey shore would never hack it on say, the learning channel. people would complain and ads would be pulled. the only network whose demographic is stupid enough to find this shit entertaining is mtv. i swear the average 18 year old thinks that show is deep. just like octomom would kill the ratings on say, lifetime. it might be only middle aged man hating feminists that watch, but it does have a home.

I get so fumed when I see retards bitch about violence in video games and music, yet movies are equally as violent and shit like this on tv just makes the youth hate learning and think it's cool to act like a douche and party your life away not worrying about tomorrow.
IMO, violence is one thing, it's much easier for a kid to understand why it's wrong to harm people than it is for them to understand why it's wrong to conduct yourself like the people on Jersey Shore do. Not at all. I'm against hypocrisy. Why is it OK for them to censor and monitor video games and explicit music, but shit like this goes completely untouched? It's because it makes money and isn't breaking the law.
Their argument against video games and music has always been "it's harmful for the children!!" my argument is "and what, this shit's not?".
Someone pointed it out earlier, what your kids watch should be up to you.

I don't think "bad" words need to be censored. I couldn't care less about that. Same opinion about nudity. Big deal. Censoring that stuff tells kids it's "wrong" when the shit that needs a little regulation is the entire scope of what they view. It bugs me because it's so popular and gives absolutely nothing back. I'm gonna go ahead and coin the term "mental-rape" on this one. Same thing applies to organized religion. I hate that shit for the same reason I hate Jersey Shore.
