Its still possible for a person to make his own decisions, Med. For example, I ... Me ... Myself ... select where I shop and what I eat. I'm down to almost a total organic diet now ... and very little meat. That means that I don't shop at the giant, corporate markets that sell shit for food. I read every food label before I buy and through research, I know what's good and what's bad. I select what I drink and that is organic coffee and water. I buy my coffee beans "green" through the Internet. They are grown on small family farms that pay their workers a fair wage. I roast my coffee beans in a small roaster ... and you've never had such good coffee ... its to die for.

I hit the gym hard five days a week in an effort to keep the medical profession away. I take personal responsibility for my health both from a nutrituional and physical stand point.

My next car will be a Toyota Prius, (large corporation, I know) and if I can find it, it will have a bumper sticker that says: "Fuck OPEC and Big Oil." That car will either have the wheels driven off of it, or traded in as soon as the hydrogen fuel cell cars are on the market.

I don't work for a corporation either ... I'm an independent contractor. I work for myself ... and the federal government doesn't get my taxes until I decide to give it to them.

My children, and their children as well, attended private Catholic schools from K-12. I have a grandson who will be entering a private Catholic college with a 4.5 grade average and is getting a very healthy scholarship as a result.

I don't go to propaganda movies ... In fact, I've boycotted almost all Hollywood products. I like the classic films and art films ... and "art" to Hollywood is violence, pornography, anti-God, left-wing propaganda and mostly drivel. I much prefer to read good books and listen to good music.

I don't use alcohol except for a very occasional beer. And I mean one or two. And the beer I drink isn't made in this country ... its made in Bavaria.

I don't buy shit weed either. I've been growing my own for many years now. You've sampled some of my wares. Be honest ... good shit, no? ~lol~

So as you can see, its possible to not become a "docile sheep" if one puts his/her mind to it. I DO agree with you though about the average American. They've let liberty slip away. Like sand, if one doesn't keep a good grip on it, it will slip between one's fingers and blow away with the wind. And, getting these ideas across has been my main thrust here in the forum. The problem is, the few who post here who attack any ideas different from theirs just either don't read my posts all the way through, or they are just stone-blind to the truth.

Well, I'm so glad to see you are a health nut. Maybe that will stave off the bad genes you have accumulated for the last 200,000 years. I believe that when it is your time to go, bye-bye. I eat what I want, when I want and if I have a massive heart attack, well then it was my time to go. I try and watch my Diabetes, but other than that, I enjoy a good filet, a big juicy hamburger, some french fries and a shake, hell yeah, I'm not going to try and extend my life at the expense of curtailing everything I like. They decide how much to charge for their products, affects us! They decide where to locate their businesses, affects us! They decide whether to pay for our healthcare or not, affects us! They pollute our atmosphere and our land and water supplies, affects us. They decide if illegals can come and take our jobs, affects us. Geeze, I'm getting tired of typing, but there is much more, the psychological havoc they wreak on employees is never considered. You can always cite an example of an overachiever making some success, but when you apply your over amped judgements of humanity to the general populace you are dead wrong. First up is the economy, where global markets reflected the fear and instability of the American market yesterday. Today is shaping up to be only slightly less volatile than expected due to the Fed cutting 75 basis points, proving as Bonddad dubbed it, the Fed is Wall Street’s b*tch.
Next is the politicization of the military, which in BushWorld, is merely business as usual, but has taken even more overt and blatant tones of quid pro quo with the news that the Pentagon is considering Gen. David Petraeus for the top spot at NATO.
And finally, the disappeared emails that don’t ever quite go away. It turns out that the “missing” emails that the administration claims it cannot furnish in response to FOIA and congressional subpoena requests are for some 473 business days, including (surprise, surprise!) 16 days from Vice President Dick Cheney’s office. One of those sixteen days is September 20, 2003, the day the DoJ and FBI announced their investigation into who leaked Valerie Plame Wilson’s identity. Quite a coinky-dink, isn’t it?




BUSHED: FOIA, Waterboarding and More Torture from the Bush Administration

First up is the news that the Freedom of Information Act is no longer quite as free as the Bush Administration plans to move the FOIA office from the National Archives to the Department of Justice, which will effectively close the office as there is no structure, planning or budget to continue the service at the DoJ, much to the bipartisan displeasure of Senators Leahy and Cornyn. Next on plate is the disturbing article at the Washington Independent that chronicles the admission by CIA interrogators that not only do they not know if torture gave them usable information, they didn’t know the actual identity of the people they were torturing. And finally, the sadly coy story of our newest Attorney General Michael Mukasey who remains mum on whether waterboarding constitutes torture, as if this is something that is debatable to anyone who isn’t a partisan hack.


Bushed!~ Permanent Bases, Obstructed Justice and Being Stupidly Cheap

Keith Olbermann recounts the fact we told you yesterday that Bush signed a signing statement in conjunction with the Defense Authorization bill ensuring that we will keep permanent bases in Iraq. Next up is news that Office of Special Counsel Chief Scott Bloch has sent a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey claiming that the DoJ is impeding his investigation into Mukasey’s predecessor Alberto Gonzales’s firing of the eight U.S. Attorneys. Quelle surprise! And finally, what Olbermann terms “Terry Gilliam-gate” as a reference to the bureaucratic nightmare of the movie Brazil, but just seems like a ridiculously cheap and stupid way to make oversight more difficult to me, the White House has announced that rather than providing free copies of the budget as a courtesy, the 2,142 page budget is now available online or for purchase for $200. Cheesy.

Bushed! The Bush Administration’s Scandals du Jour

On Friday’s edition, in the first story, we find that Democratic Senator Dick Durbin may indeed have found some calcium deposits that maybe…just maybe…the beginnings of a spine. In reaction to Attorney General Michael Mukasey’s inability to answer some basic questions on the rule of law, Durbin has suggested that the Senate may not have the ability to confirm Mark Filip for Deputy Attorney General. Hear that, Mukasey? No answers, no deputy. And then there is the story that no Republican proudly trumpeting the success of the surge (hello, McCain!) will ever admit. The much heralded law to reintroduce Ba’athists into the Iraqi government will likely not be ratified, according to the Iraqi Presidency Council. So I guess it’s back to the drawing board.
Finally, we have Richard Boucher, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, who when asked by Sen. Russ Feingold if we’ve ignored Pakistan and Afghanistan over Iraq used a typical Bush Administration tone-deaf response:

Bushed!- Budgets, Black Boxes and Big Fat Liars

Wednesday’s edition of Bushed! adds a level of absurdity as well with the news that the Pentagon submitted a budget for 2008 acknowledging that their preliminary numbers for the cost of the two war fronts in the Middle East are likely wrong, but Congress should just approve it anyway. Then because there just can’t be enough Orwellian overtones to the Bush Administration is the news that the federal government, under the guise of protecting from cyber attacks, wants to implement “black box sensors” on private computer networks. I’m sure that won’t be abused at all, right? And finally, the pathetically lame attempt on the part of National Security Advisor Mike McConnell to backpedal from his statement on the excruciating pain of getting water up his nose as a lifeguard in his early years could perhaps lead one to believe that waterboarding might be…you know, torture. Good God, as Keith Olbermann says, if you’re going to send out a minion to continue the lie of waterboarding is not torture, you gotta get someone smarter than this.

First up is the news that the Pentagon has confirmed the existence of Camp 7, the secret, secrethe joked the reason for so much security was that the Veep heard their was some Ducks around, an allusion to his duck hunting exploits, which include shooting a friend in the face. I bet that Sammy Pahlsson found that a knee-slapper. And speaking of the shoot-first, have-them-apologize-later Vice President, he spoke at the CPAC conference yesterday and offered this defiant endorsement of the Bush years: prison within Guantanamo–given the violations we know about, what horrors lie inside a place they wouldn’t even admit to? Then there is the story of President Bush’s inappropriate sense of humor. When hosting the 2007 Stanley Cup Winners, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, at the White House,

“The President has made the right decisions for the right reasons and he always reflected the values of the American people,” Cheney declared, “Would I support those same decisions today? You’re damn right I would.”

Senate OKs immunity for telecoms
With just a few days until a stop-gap surveillance measure expires, the Senate finally seemed ready to acquiesce to President Bush's demand that telecommunications companies that helped him spy on Americans be let off the hook.

I’ll admit that I read that sentence several times without being able to make heads or tails of it, but this is news? Keith, dude, they have websites devoted to “Bushisms.”
Next is the typically hypocritical stance of the White House for excoriating Congress for doing something while basically doing the same thing themselves. Case in point: Sen. Dick Durbin submitted last year a $1.5million earmark to combat the emerald ash borer beetle, responsible for killing ash trees throughout the midwest, which Bush vowed to veto. This year, the federal budget that Bush submitted includes a whopping $330million allocated to fighting pests like the emerald ash borer.
And finally, the news we brought you yesterday, that the White House has announced its plans to charge and try in secret six detainees for murder and war crimes relating to 9/11.
Not to say they may not be guilty and not to say they may not deserve it, but how convenient. The trials could probably start just as the presidential election kicks into high gear, meaning if there was a quick conviction or the trials were simply ongoing, the Republicans could take credit for their extra-Constitutional torture, detention and trials. And if there were quick acquittals, they could blame the Democrats for not being enough torture, detention and trials.

Jon Stewart does a brilliant segment on the multitude of ridiculous and offensive positions the Bush administration (including Mukasey, McConnell, Alberto, Hayden and Bush) has taken on torture, i.e.,: waterboarding. It’s not torture, it is torture, don’t do it to me, we don’t torture—it’s classified—I can’t discuss it—water goes up my nose–swim lessons—it’s not appropriate for me to say if it’s torture—we never torture—we only waterboarded three people…Will you investigate?—No.
