Speak from your experience chalange

Everyday I see people give advice they read somewhere and don't actually have experience with. The problem is that it's the net folks, a lot of what you hear isn't true, some of it is half true, and some of it is true but unless you have experience in what you are giving advice on you don't know.

So take the challenge, don't give any advice unless you've had the same problem, use the same products or have experience doing something.

example of a often repeated myth

"spraying your plants with the lights on will magnify the water droplets and burn your plants"

half truth

Without a wetting agent the water balls up and the water can evaporate leaving behind condensed salts which then burn your plants. If water droplets magnified the sun the planet would burn up every time it rains. You can't burn an ant by putting a magnify glass right on it can you? No you got to hold it at the right distance and focus the light. But I probably read people saying that everyday.

So please, resist giving advice unless you know personally.

Great idea OP. This website pushes more experienced growers away because of people talking out of there ass.

One that really bugs me is when people insist on leaving all the leaves on your plants.

ITS OK TO CUT OFF FAN LEAVES AND REMOVE EXTRA FOLIAGE FROM YOUR PLANTS.

Yes, you get less buds... But the ones you get are bigger. No one likes little popcorn buds that are a pain in the ass to trim. Your plants can only produce so much anyway, it is contingent on the root mass and how well your plants can absorb nutrients more then anything else. Your lights also only penetrate so far. If you have never cut off the lower third of your plants I challenge you to do this, it will make you a better and happier grower.

When I need good Info I just hit up Brick Top. He knows his shit.
Yeah, Brick Top is the man...

Added. The word is *Challenge

Maybe you should use a spell checker before you start trying to correct other people.

No he doesn't. Look at my sig and you'll see some threads I've put up. He's just got a hard on for me, why would a guy who admittedly doesn't like me come to a thread to call me a troll? Because he's trolling me. I'm not in love with his hero and it upsets him greatly.

But you know, it's just a challenge with 2 L's and we know a lot of people aren't going to take it up because if they started speaking from experience they wouldn't have much to say.

So, if I have experience but I cut and paste something that I know is true then I am not speaking from experience?

How do you really know anything is true unless you've tried it yourself?

There is a lot of real info out there....and a lot of bad info. Both get repeated by people with the good intent (they want to help people or want friends) but it doesn't help if it's wrong.

Where is the danger of only speaking from experience.

A typical post here at RIU starts "I've never grown in hydro but soil is more forgiving......" You know what I mean.

Ok, I stand corrected. Some people like popcorn buds. But IN MY EXPERIENCE (about 3 years worth), I have found that I do not loose any overall weight if I trim my plants. But I get much nicer and more consistently dense buds.

And riddle me this please, how do I get CFL lighting for the underside of my plants in the middle of my 4x4 flood table?

You can demand it all you want but there is simply no way to control the amount or lack of experience from a poster. That is why it is helpful to have common sense...

Expecting 22,000 active users to change their behavior simply because you want it to happen is insane.
