Did you catch that episode of "River Monsters" where the host was trying to ID a very large fish (20 ft ish) that has been spotted in Iliamna Lake? It sounds very plausable that it is a white sturgen, but I've never heard of one up here.

Love that show! Is that the episode where they get in the helicopter and they think they see it in the waters below? I cant remember the ending...My favorite episode is with the giant stingrays. Could you imagine?!

I think thats the one - they end up not finding anything but he catches a white sturgen down south just to show what they look like.
As for stingrays, years ago when I lived in the southeastern tip of the US I got to free dive with Manta rays many times, that and Manatee's, giant Tarpon, Jewfish (now called Goliath grouper) etc...
Fun times, but too many people.

no I haven't seen that one.. working too much

there could be very large lake trout up here, I think sheefish get pretty big too right?
could be something unbeknown to us...

Yeah, I lived in the interior & got into some pretty big sheefish - around 20lb for the biggest. But nothing near the size they were talking about.

well today i went fishing and caught a very nice bass, id say at least 2 pounds.
this is the biggest bass i have caught so far, i got him on a drop shot with a pruple fake worm.
he was about an inch bigger then my boot and i wear 11 1/2

I've been down south for the last month and a half, family biz, but I managed to get in some flyfishing for trout on the White river in Arkansas. Did pretty good, all catch & release - a couple over 3 lbs but really hard to take a pic of yourself.
Here's one shot of a nice rainbow in the trophy trout section of the river.
Its good to be home !

I've been down south for the last month and a half, family biz, but I managed to get in some flyfishing for trout on the White river in Arkansas. Did pretty good, all catch & release - a couple over 3 lbs but really hard to take a pic of yourself.

whats up GWN, i thought the thread died, i have not had any fish caught cuz i have not been able to get out and go fishing, plus our river is flooded.

and man that is a very nice looking trout, bet he was a nice lil fight on a fly rod. i have one of the cheaper fly poles but it gets the job done for a beginner fly fisherman, ive only caught one steel head on my fly pole and that was the day i got the pole, i should be out more trying to catch fish with my fly rod.
what fly did you catch the trout on?

and i hope to have some more pics of some fish here soon it is supposed to be clear for about a week and te water level should drop down to allow some good fishing

The bulk of my trout fishing was with a bead head olive wolly booger. Fishing this type of fly is pretty easy - usually you just cast across the current lines & allow the fly to "sweep" through it, altho I like to strip them a bit to get some more action going.
I've got a few more recient pics & will post them if you like.

A little history on the rod - its a 7wt for a 9ft I built it for my dad back in 2000, a Sage IM6 blank w/ nickle guides. Cast's like a dream & fish know it when I hookem.
Slightly heavy for the average fish in the White, but appreciated in heavy current or for the longer cast's.

It think this is the nicest Rainbow Trout I can remember catching. We had a long fight...what a beautiful fish!!

Dry Falls, WA...near Electric City....Fly fishing sinking line, with a green and black woolly-bugger that I tied myself.

Cut Throat, sorry for the picture quality. Fly fishing, floating line with a dragonfly I tied. Eastern Washington...can't remember the name of the lake.

Both last year.

dam those are some nice trout. what city was the lake near, i lived in cheney outside of spokane and their were some great lakes for fishing

The Rainbow was Dry Falls, near Electric city (Coulee Damn area) Sun Lake State Park.

The Cut Throat came from a lake up in Okanogan. Pretty sure it was Wannacut Lake, but can't remember for sure. Lots of good trout fishing in Washington

i havent bean able to get out much to go fishing do to weather, but it has been nice so i went fishing at lake selmac and nailed some trout. i caught about 10 ranging from 7 inches to 14 all rainbows. caught them on good ol power bait. i also got sun burnt for the first time this year.

Nice looking fish McPurp - I've been wanting to go myself, but it's still too early yet here.
But, very shortly the salmon will be running & the halibut will be in shallower water looking for dinner.
And I'll be ready.
