is it better to keep topping your plant to get alot of little colas or just 1 big one

how does scrog get you more weed?

what is low stress training? and how does it work

is there any other tips or anything that i should know about improving the overall yield of my plants?

if you're a new grower, stick to 1 cola, after your second or third grow you'll learn exactly how your strains act to nutrients, light, different soil mixtures and environments....

when you top a plant you don't top the roots, you can potentially burn your plants because you're reducing the size of the plant while the same amount of nutrients are speeding in...with nowhere to go but 2 tiny growth tips that eventually will be the new tops.

the best way to do it according to ME..is a 4x4 flowering chamber (16 square feet) with either 8 or 16 plants, 1 per square foot being the most, with a tiny 2x1' table.

overall yield will be improved for every week of veg time...the longer you give the plant to fill out before flowering the more budsites its able to develop, new growth tips stop being made and the plant works off of what it has after 2 weeks of flowering(after the stretch).

depending on what your growing:
veg for 30 days minimum, it should be at least 12" tall, branches should be on 5 bladed leaves, fan leaves should have 9. they go 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 as they grow.

A good general rule to follow is: The size pot (in gallons) should be equal to height (in feet). So if you want to grow a 5 foot plant, it would be happiest in a 5 gallon bucket. These roots grow fast. I have 6 girls going now, and they are in half gallon pots, and the roots could be seen at the holes in the bottom by late 2 weeks.

If you want the plant to be 5 feet tall, then you should probably flower it when it gets to 2 feet. My plant is currently 20 inches tall (53 days old), and it started growing an inch a day when it got to a foot. So keep that in mind.

Expect 2-3x stretch in height in the first 2 weeks of flowering for INDICA, and 3-5x for SATIVA, if they're mixes they generally have a few different genes they can take up (phenotypes) from their parents, some of your seeds will have indica height and some will have sativa, the really popular strains are usually stabilized and they'll have a proper genetic height adjustment through generations of seedmaking(so go with whatever they said on the website, Short, Medium, Tall).

if you veg till 1ft expect a 3ft indica, put them in a 3 gallon pot just incase, if they dont reach 3ft they'll still have extra room to play in the soil :D you wont have to worry about a rootbound lady 2 weeks till harvest.

the way I find best is to grow the seeds in peat pellets or a mini bio-degradable pot that you can put into a 6" small pot when they go from seedling to veg.
once they're rootbound in that 6" pot (they'll be 4-8" tall) its best to transplant it to either 1 more medium-sized pot or straight to the 3 gallon(reduces stress and the grow finishes a few days sooner since the plants dont need to recover from any shock)

oh, and for noobs, a NEUTRAL potting mix is best(no added fancy shit like fox farm has, just peat moss)50/50 mixture of peat moss and perlite is what im using for my 2nd grow and its AMAZING...the plants look plastic lol, healthy 110%. I regulate PH with my head, my nutes have everything except calcium, sulphur, and magnesium in it, (the calcium in the tapwater is enough!! it works perfectly!), and I foliar feed megnesium and sulphur with....Magnesium Sulphate! lol(epsom salts), its perfect.

sulphur bonds with other minerals and makes a useless chemical in the soil...which makes ur plants deficient, foliar feeding it keeps ur soil sexy :D

allright so i can expect my white widow seedlings to triple at 16 inches which would be perfect and i have already got fox farms ocean forest.. should i worry about ph? or is that only for added nutes?

Yes you should always test the pH of your water, it is a good habit. Adding nutes will affect the pH a little, so just test the water after the nutes are added, and chances are you'll need to make it a little more acidic. (6.5 is ideal)

how would i go about doing that?

and is there any other simple tricks or tips to get higher yielding crops?

Buy this: http://www.amazon.com/pH-Control-Kit-General-Hydroponics/dp/B000BNKWZY

(Or if you don't want spend the extra money: http://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-pH-Test-Kit/dp/B000BT32UA/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1285456476&sr=1-1 )

pH is an important role in the plants life, so I wouldn't suggest cutting corners when it comes to that. I bought this kit for $18 at my local hydroponic store. You could also use vinegar and baking soda to change the pH, but this kit will last you a long time.

As for higher yielding crops (which having the right pH will also help) you should put your light source as close as possible to the plants without burning them. Nutrients are a cheap option (I use Fox Form Big Grow and Big Bloom, both were under $20). And of course NoobGrower nailed it, the longer you veg, the more bud you will get.
