The root system growth is best in the dark when the plant isn't devoting it's resources to photosynthesis. I like 18/6 to 20/4.
.
FINALLY!!!! Someone besides me.. for once.. understands how the plant actually works! Amazing.. I really thought that I was the only on around here that doesn't do 24hrs of light.. nor do I do 20/4 or anything else like that..
Just stick to the 18/6 for veg.. and as soon as you think your ladies are ready to flower.. THEN switch them over to 12/12.
Now! when it comes to my flowering cycles? I like to try and imitate nature as closely as possible. What I mean by that.. is like during the spring time.. we all advance our clocks forward an hour.. so therefore halfway through the flowering process (week #4 or #5) I'll give the plant an extra hour of sleep (darkness) and keep them under that schedule for a good solid 2 weeks.. then start coming back to the original 12/12.
Trust me.. it works. Why? Because your imitating nature like it should be imitated.
Which again.. is also another reason I don't use 24hrs of light during veg. When doing that.. your not supplying the plant hardly any dark periods. Which is vital for healthy and strong root structure development.
some people just don't get it.. and some never will. Your imitating nature.. your suppose to imitate the environment for the plant.. to make it think that it is outside growing in its natural environment!! This is NOT rocket science you guys.
24hrs of straight light? During the whole veg cycle?? That shits retarded.. unless your actually growing a strain that is indigenous to the artic.. where the sun never sits for 6 months out of the year. But other than that.. 24/0 IS NOT THE correct lighting regime for MJ. Your plant's root system CANNOT grow properly without some kind of dark period.
remember.. if you imitate nature correctly.. you'll get better plants and buds.
That's all I'm saying.
Peace.
