Well I've been wanting to do a BOG type grow for a while. Right now I'm growing my first grow from seeds in a 30"X20"x48" area (top area of cabinet is for cloning chamber and storing ballasts, etc.) I'm growing under a 250 Watt MH. I'll be switching to an enhanced spectrum bulb for flowering.
Anyway I don't want to have all my plants tied up to a screen and then have to separate out the males. I have 9 viable seedlings and 1 that I injured and still don't know if it will survive. I'm thinking of putting each one in a 6-7" pot and start out by LSTing. I hope to create a canopy kind of like a regular SCROG with the LST.
Here's where the difference in my idea comes in. I'm growing in a cabinet with little holes to attach cabinets that go all up the thing. I could put a screw in each hole, and after I've vegged the plants to cover the air space above their respective pots, I could then train the branches up the side of the cabinet with strings tied to screws. This way when I find males I can remove them by untying the strings...hopefully the plants would fill out enough in flowering to fill the spots left by the males.
I might even think about doing this even when I switch to clones. If I can start the LST under a couple T5s in my 14" cloning cabinet I can make this a perpetual grow system. I predict that if I learn to train well I should get similar results to doing a BOG, but without the screen, and that would make perpetual harvest much easier.
Tell me what you all think.
