Hey! I was going to post last night but the freaking internet went out late... But I did at least save what I was trying to post... The 1st one I wrote got erased b.c of the internet being out.. SO I wrote this one an saved the dame thing... Well here it is...
Hey! I checked out your you tube link.. Thats so neat... I cant wait... Ok well I ordered the Technaflora this evening.. Im also going to get another fan.. The one I have is too small.. Mine will do about 1 time every 10 min... & I am going to build another smaller room and I will use the fan in that room.. I knew I was going to have too... Now, how long after they germ. do I have before I would want to take the 1st clone...? Do I want to take it during what week of Veg.? OR during flowering.. Im not sure...
On the seed thing... I havent got my last shipment yet. But Im sure its coming soon.. I would like to pick up a few more... Is there any on the site that U gave me that U think that would work good... I just wanted to know.. I did look at the site and there just tons and tons of them.... So I just wanted to know..
On the meter thing.. I did look at them... There a bit pricey but if there the best than I would consider... I mean I know I may have to fork out a little more now.. but if it will help me in the end than Im all in... If there were any that U thought would be a little cheaper DEF take a look... Thank you again for taking the time to help... The ec-pmm thing was about 130 and the soil tester was 70 so its not too bad but I was just wondering..
Now what do u think about me getting the PH up and PH down.. U think Ill need it? Or does that come in the pack thingy I got.. The Technaflora starter kit...
OK well have a good night... thank you for the help.
as far as the clones go it depends on how large of a space you have to grow them out in while the "mothers" are flowering... figure it will take about 10 days from the time you take them to the time they are ready to transplant... and then figure out how much longer they will veg before they can flower... you can basically take clones a week after your plants start to veg... all the way up until you harvest damn near... the further into flowering you go the longer the revert time.. ideally you want to take them in veg tho.. so if you take them the last week of veg you will have 8 to 10 weeks to hold them... like i said it somewhat depends on your setup and how much space/light you have to veg and flower with...
there arent really any strains i would personally recommend since they will all basically work... here are some guide lines tho.. sativas will grow taller than indicas... so if you want shorter plants stick with indicas or indica dominant strains.. sativas take longer to flower but have a different high thats usually more uplifting and such.. but if you want quick heavy yields look for big bud, critical mass, giga bud, skunk, chronic... and im sure there are a few others.. but those are heavy yielders off the top of my head...
if you can afford those ec/ppm and ph testers its best to just go with them.. those are 2 areas that you want to be accurate on... plus if you ever switch to hydro (which is a natural progression almost) you can pretty much use them (the ec/ppm for sure.. the ph is a ?) with the hydro application.. so your making a good investment..
if you get anything i would get
http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=GPD505&AC=1 for you nute solution since its uncommon to have to up the ph of nute solution.. and maybe get
http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=EJND502&AC=1 (and the earth juice ph up) just incase you have soil issues.. the firt ph down wont work to adjust the actual soils ph.. the last two will.. so youll be covered in all areas..
i think that was everything..
keep askin if you have any more ?s...

have a few questions regarding a calyx for you -
what exactly is a calyx? do you happen to have any close up pics of one? can they be mistaken for a seed? or what looks like a seed?
I found what looked like a seed in a bud the other day (sorry no pic yet) and gently picked it - squeezed it and it was full of liquid/fluid. Any ideas??? This is something that I wish someone would post - pics of plants that show all the different parts, in different stages. That would be freaking awesome!
i got your pm and responded... hope it helps.. if not let me know and ill keep working to explain it...
Hey, I was concerned about the same thing,
and i have some info that might be of help,
if you are using any miracle grow soil they have these little yellow, liquid filled, balls they are nutrients from what i understand, not any eggs or things like that,
if your not using miracle grow, i have no idea.
the little yellow balls are timed released nutes.. the little white ones (that look like little foam balls) are perlite.. just so you dont think the perlite (if there is any) if actually nutes..
Sampson, how the heck are ya. I sure hope you are well on account of all us newbs hittin you up constantly.
I'm back again, and seriously am approaching go time.
A few last ??'s for ya to get me rolling.
I re-read your original text from "101" regarding germin'. (Doin ALL autos bear in mind, if that makes a difference). Anyway, I'm using rapid rooters as I told ya about. Have prop. tray & humidity dome for it. But, I must ask, what does Sampsone do?
In "101" you mention either germin' in paper towels (which is what I have heard & read from prob. over 90% of sources, save old Ed Rosenthal and some other super old-schoolers).
Do you do the paper towel gig yourself, or straight into medium (in my case rapid rooters)?? Oh yeah, I got some Root 66 per ur suggestion, so thats ready too).
Dude, I cant wait to get this goin, I totally over plan everything, and have made this no exception.
Anyway, my 1 other main question for you cap'n. I told you bout the tent setup I have (that I'm doin that V-drip system thing into). Super small op.
The V-drips footprint is less than 18x24x20"tall. She is sittin inside a hydro hut, that is 20x36x51. And Mrs. Hydro Hut will reside in in a small 36"x72"x80"tall closet. Now, I will have is the 2' flourescent (110watts) hittin my girls as soon as they are ready for the V-drip. Then they get 400watts of either MH or HPS. (I know you said I could go HPS the whole time, lemme know if you still are leanin that way). I would obviously only do the MH for 2-3 weeks before they shift into flower. Just thinking ANY type of edge (as I hear & read everywhere that MH is way better for veggie growth), to try & get as much branching as possible, as opposed to just the x1 main cola.
Back to point, EXHAUST?? This is where I need ya most ma man.
I already procured x2-4" inline can fans (not pricey, bout $25 per piece).
The tent has holes in on the back top right where the fan obviously fits perfectly. As well as the same type velcro covered holes on the bottom side for intake.
How important is it for me to do the exhaust all the way??
The celing leads right to the attic, and it is not a descent spot. But man, I really would LOVE to avoid puttin a hole in that bloody ceiling.
Could I get away w/ just installing the fans (intake & exhaust)to the tent, maybe puttin a small piece of ducting that just blows straight up or something?? I realize it's ideal for true ventilation, just wanna see what ya think.
Lastly, what are you thoughts about the amount of fresh air my girls will get being stuck in a closet? I intend to open the door for a few times per day to get freshies in there. Essentially, do you feel I need to drill another bloody hole in the floorboard to pipe in cool air from under the house. Again, I realize that would totally be prefferable for a true set up, but this is small time, again tent is only 20x36x61.
Temp. is a slight issue as well. Especially if you advise bringing in fresh air constantly (drilling into floor). The house is a bit older over 30 yrs. The insulation sucks a good bit, and I have had a thermometer in there for a few weeks now, and my record low was 59 YIKES (it was a sub-freezing night), that was on the floor (wood floor), but I realize that temp is way beyond the threshold of coolness & I have to get that temp up. I have a space heater that I keep in the room, that has alleviated constant temp probs. My long winded point is that I believe if I brought in too much air from under the house, its gonna be freakin cold.
So could you breakdown my idel temps to stick to. MAX low is obvisouly very important, max HIGH & relative humidity suggestions would be awsome also. I knwo they are in 101, so I can refer back to that if possible.
Thanks again, and thank you for all of us that have benefited from your knowledge that you also are so willing & happy to oblige.
Take care & thanks again in advance broseph.
Hopefully, I should have some sexy pics soon for ya!!!
hey bro.. glad to have you back and hear your close to launch...
so you want to know how i germinate my seeds?? well i break tradition and dont paper towel them.... yea.. im a rouge grower i know..
really i keep it simple.. i soak the seeds in water over night.. i usually use shot glasses because they are small and i usually only have a few seeds.. i use something bigger of course if i have more.. and make sure to keep the seeds seperated by strains... i leave them in a cupboard or wherever over night.. usually i try to hit 15 to 20 hours of soak.. at least 12 hours and no more than 24..
when i am ready to put them into their cubes i soak the cubes (i use rapid rooters also) in water for about a half hour.. sometimes i have some clonex rooting hormones or root 66 or some other root starter ill throw that in when i soak the cubes.. after about a half hour i let the water drain from cubes.. i know when they are good because they stop dripping water.. then i throw the seed in the cube, the cube in the tray, and the tray in my veg room... they are under lights from then on (even before sprouting they are under lights)... the light thing is optional.. they dont NEED light until they sprout.. but i do it mainly for the heat.. i keep the cubes nice and moist over the next few days.. and usually within 4 or 5 days from when i put the seeds in the cubes they are ready to go into their sites..
as far as light i would go either way.. yes, mh is better in the end for vegging.. but the heat that is put off my mh lights is WAY WAY hotter than hps lamps.. me personally, i would try both just to see the difference.. i mean, an mh bulb isnt that expensive.. and you can see first hand how they are.. but.. if you want to avoid to much heat stick with just and hps and the floros for side lighting..
with the exhaust here is the thing.... if you dont exhaust the heat into another room completely it will eventually just get sucked back into the tent.. which means after a while when the entire room is heated the fans are just pulling in warm air.. this is bad of course.. you should really try to get the hot air into another room that isnt near the tent or even outside if you can do it right... if you really cant make modifications to do that you may just need to supply extra co2 to compensate for the lack of it in the higher temps...
temps can pretty much range from mid 50s to mid 90s and be ok depending on the co2 levels... now... you should try to maintain a temp in the mid 70s at all times... this is ideal.. and a RH around 50%.. these are good numbers to run the entire grow.. its not possible typically tho.. so its best to just try to limit the temp shifts to about 15 degrees.. if you have a fan that is pulling air from below on timed intervals it could be enough cool air to counteract the temps of the exhaust if you did just exhaust into the same room basically.. it would take some playing around with... but temp stress early on (as long as its not extremes like 50s at night and 90s during the day) are less important as they are when the plants mature... i wouldnt let temps get below 55, above 95, or have a RH that is less than 30% or higher than 70%...
hopefully that tells ya what ya need bro.. let me know if you have any more questions..
There is a lot of great info in this thread and i am enjoying reading about all of this. I've only just got to like the 24th page and I've learned so much. I just started trying to grow plants and don't have a lot of the fancy stuff yet do to finances so I germinated in a paper towel and I am using just soil, water, some generic type of plant food that is 10/52/10, sunlight from a window, and a light a few hours into the night. My plants are above ground about 2 1/2 to 3 inches with only four leaves but from what I have read it takes about 2 weeks before you see it start looking more like a plant. Am I just wasting my time this way? I"m getting loads of ideas and info from this thread for when I can afford to set up an actual grow room. I have a metal shed that I'm planning on using as a grow room when I get better equipment and such but so far the seedlings seem to be doing good they bend toward the light from the window and I rotate them away from it about 2 times during the day because of this. Will this cause problems later with the plant? Anyway I'm learning so much from reading this thread that I see I have a long way to go and much work to do but I'm not planning on supplying the world only a few plants for personal use and maybe some to offset expenses. Maybe one day I will have some great looking plants like I've seen here hopefully.
congrats on the first grow attempt.. its always fun the first grow to watch and see how things go... mj is a great plant all around...
unfortunately you are wasting your time... everything is ok except the light... window filtered light is not good light.. and you'll start noticing it because your plant will just keep getting taller and taller, staying thin and scrawny, and have very little foliage.. this is what we refer to as a stretched plant... the bending towards the light is them trying to find it... but in the end the plant will get to tall to support itself...
you can get cheap lighting at home depot or lowes or anywhere like that... you can use cfl bulbs (the spiral lights) if you want to... they arent the greatest.. but will at least give you a start to finish grow.. which will give you a basic idea of how things go and grow...
im sorry to give you the bad news.. i always hate discouraging like that.. but theres always later right?..
