Simple Questions About Beliefs

Let's just face facts.... man is overwhelmingly still a superstitious creature. We've been to the Moon, but we are still frightened and alone in the dark.

Without a religious construct already in place...man invents one every single time.

you people are coming in here spouting nonsense and missing the entire point of this thread. Shut up and do this properly, or don't bother at all. You're no different then a religious heckler with the way you're acting and going about your points. No worse than what some people are 'oh so annoyed' with here regarding theists and they way they tend to go about things. You're being just as obnoxious as them.

And I agree with you CrackerJax, It could be just me but whenever faith is more and more involved, I always tend to find ritual and superstition inclined to do so as well. Having 'faith' in some aspects is fine, but it seems a wholly unhealthy process of thought from the get go.

Where is faith drawn from? What is the process of it all exactly? Where do you know to draw the line before passing the boundaries of
essential logic and reasoning? Having faith in god enough to hope for a prayer to save your own child say instead of medicinal practice and
the knowledge in the fact that it probably in all likelihood would have been more healthier for her then the previous. Seems like a slippery rope
to walk across in my opinion.

I know it's important for the progressives to destroy peoples faith, but this sh*t is getting old.

The lack of faith is the believe that the ability for human beings to love each-other comes naturally.

History proves otherwise

If Jesus was alive today, and preaching love rather than government intervention, most would call for his head, and the emperor in chief - in washington - would be happy to carry out the wishes of the people .
Hmmm.. Okay GC, what do YOU think Jesus would say If he came back and saw the Christian faith? Do you think he would approve or disapprove with what has been done in his name..... tell me, please. What do you think he would say?

Religious moderates.

Betray both their religion and humanity.

And i understand the fasle sense of comfort and security of faith that religion provides BUT it gives credence to innumberable injustices all over the world whether you approve of them or not.

The continued subjugation of women in all of the major religions. The overwhelming amount of attention/negetivity towards people's personal sex lives and legal civil-union of homosexuals.

You DO NOT need religion or "god" to have an overwhelming enlightening experience. Nor do you need drugs. All you need is the want for betterment. As our species and wealth of knowledge gets more & more complex we SHOULD note that we have an obligation to put those out-of-date religions and doctrines in the 'mythological' section. We have not hesistated for a second to compile those ever so learned beings of the greek faith in the forgotten file. Zeus, Poseiden, Hercules, etc.

We have the ability to do the right thing in this world W/out the rhetoric of religious dogma.

It's a faulty system that allows too many moral and sometimes legal loopholes to our human rights and freedoms. I disagree with religion when it detaches from philosophy and becomes ritualistic superstition.

OK, first off, this thread is going to have a few rules. I know, but I gotta do it. We've had too many threads already that just turn into garbage because everyone is free to post whatever they want. So I'm going to ask everyone who decides to post in this thread to PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES AND RESPECT THEM.

I think its a bit hypocritical that you expect other people to follow your rules, but you didnt follow theirs/// Atheism must be great.

I believe not hypocritical.
The thread maker makes the rules.

We must abide by the rules, or go elsewhere.
This is a place of deep and rational thought.
Shhhh! Please respect The Others.

Agreed. Abide by the rules, Op makes the rules. Respect others.

Which is why I posted. Ive seen other threads where PadawanBater didnt show other people the same respect he asks for.

I thought Jesus taught you guys to turn the other cheek. kind of spiteful don't you think?
The truth hurts.

And spiteful, no.

Its not fair to break other peoples rules on other threads, but then start a thread and post the same rules you already broke

And now you want to get mad at me for pointing out the truth. Whatever man, I wasnt mean or rude. Its a simple statment. Ive heard worse from you

I fail to see any underlaying tones that would point to being mad, I simply, without mentioning right or wrong on OP's part, discussed the current wrong with you and your religions own beliefs.

Truth or not, all I see from the message you sent was spite. Be it from how you felt from OP's past actions, or this thread directly. Seems somewhat apparent to me to be completely honest.

As for the Jesus comment, part of his teachings were to 'turn the other cheek' It refers to responding to an aggressor without violence. The phrase is from 'the Sermon on the Mount' in the New Testament. Essentially don't be the aggressor and do not violently, or non constructively respond to the aggressor.

I mean, come on. You didn't honestly make the comment out of wanting to be constructive or supportive to the topic or anything. Right? Lets be a bit real here.

Hey may have been wrong, but again, what I said, still applies.

Also, being atheist is pretty great. I like the whole shtick it's got going. Or were you not asking and that was merely a subtle tone of sarcasm. Either way, I meant what I said. You should give it a ponder sometime.

I think BTF makes a good point.

, No.. Now they want peace, and proper sequence of typing.. No, insults, stay on point of discussion, then acknowledge when being right or wrong after comprehending the gathered meaning back to whomever did the explaining..., but yet the tone in most of the posts are still very unsettling, and categorizing, as well as stereotyping, but yet, they do show a reproach to wanting to be reasonable and talk to the believer, whatever that is? :?

Yes, let's play by the rule's, conduct ourselves orderly., Move at an orderly pace and speak with a direct purpose of priority point... Let's not be random, and chaotic, Let's Not let the thread mutate into something else, that is spontaneous, adaptive, evolviing & more interesting.. Let's, just focus on appealing to one another's understanding, It's Ok, we can politely say we disagree and exclaim how we cannot comprehend that being possible with Logic / Reasoning of Their Mind, :-|

When Hey Zeus said turn the Other Cheek? How did you know he didn't mean his Ass?

You see it puts a different spin on things when you think about it like that..!!

Ya'll enjoy the order of one pointedness, it is good for the spirit.., I see it fathoming in each and everyone of you,

But I didn't come to the Spiritual, Philosophy, Sexual section to be governed by rules of growing or politics.. This is nothing but life on this side, everybody conducts themselves as they should by the forums rules.., and their rules are subject to Universal Law.., This Section is about Universal Law.. Spirituality, Sexuality, Philosophy.. Science wasn't even part of the Discussion.., The Laws of Science Break, because they are Laws of man, Universal Law never Breaks.,, So I believe we should treat everyone as should be and with respect to Universal Law..., and this being that Section we're in.., Universal Law are the only rules I know!!

I have broken 1 rule I know, too many paragraphs, So I will exit Now..

:peace:,(good thread too!! ++rep)

If you're referring to the "Whose Down With Jesus" thread - in which the OP asked for atheists not to post, to that I said don't post on a public forum if you don't welcome all opinions. Total justification for breaking that rule, I'm sure you will agree with that. Also, I never came with hostile intentions. Go take a look for yourself.

Look man, the point of this thread is to get some much needed progress in this arena. All we all do all the time in each thread we all post in is argue. I thought it was time for a change, in order to accomplish that there has to be some rules and guidelines for people to follow so things don't get stagnant. There's gotta be a goal. I was tired of getting nowhere.

Like I said the rules are important for the goal of the thread. You seem to have a pretty unique perspective, you should get involved.

This goes for anyone too, I'd love for a believer to ask a genuine question they have about atheism to see if anyone can help. I see tons of misconceptions all the time about people who simply lack a belief in a god.. Any takers?
