yeah def willing to learn some banana nute advice... i am thinking a perpetual micro grow... we will see... if i can get a mother going and just clone, then i can lock in my times to where i harvest every 2 weeks... that would be awesome... i like the 12 and 12 from seed method, but if i want perpetual, i gotta go clones for sure... and just keep my clones small and have a good turn around time for them to flower... we will see... the future is vague, but it is there...

just returning a look after you stopped by my grow page
and for many of us, small is beautiful, i'd say this a good 1st micro grow
i have seen some very good results with some growers that pull amazing amounts out of small spaces
so, can't resist comparing sizes, my teeny box is 15 x 13 x 7
i did just did a larger grow with cfl's, but the amount i got(35g) frankly is a bit more than i was comfortable with

preciate that grow one... i think the only way i can get more out of my box is going clones... that way i wouldnt end up having a monster of a plant, rather a smaller plant used for cloning and a small clone/flowering box... yeah, i would have been a lil nervous as well with a plant producing over a ounce... i love your design setup and layout for your journal... it explains evrything perfect to every detail... i figure if i want bigger buds, than i should veg longer, but i dont, so i didnt... i am glad there ARE people that understand micro grows... anyways.. i am out for the night.. i will try my best to have some more piks up tomorrow... the only thing is... all my piks are starting to look the same...

Alrighty. Read through the whole thing again and I hope you don't mind some suggestions. Please take this in the light of "this guy is trying to help improve my grow" and not a "this guy's being a dick insulting my grow".

First thing to do is fix that light mounting. Jammed in there at that awkward angle, it is eating up valuable plant space. You could prolly fit 3 or 4 of those party cups in there. Even if you are just sticking with one plant, you are still sacrificing way too much growing area to that light. Can you bring that plug up any higher? Run a little bit of extra cord up that inside wall and use some duct tape? Maybe go all out professional style and cut a hole and really custom mount it? Perhaps look into the flat pl-l bulbs (I think that's what they're called)?

Second, consider a ScrOG or LSTing your plant. Use a wide but shallow container such as a pencil box or small rubbermaid or tupperware something that fills the bottoms of your box. To LST, you'd tie the plant down around the edges of the pot, for ScrOG you'd mount a screen, like some chicken wire or a cookie cooling rack, and train the plant to grow under it. Plenty of great tutorials on training methods on this and other sites. With such a small space, maximizing usage of that space is vital. This goes hand in hand with moving your light bulb.

Third, consider your watering technique. In such a small container, it's easy to become "root bound", but, really, root bound is just a state of mind. If you supply your plant with optimum conditions, it will thrive. When you water with small containers, what you want to do is put the container into a larger container, like a coffee can or bucket, and then fill with water/nutes until the dirt/root mass is completely submerged. Leave it underwater until all bubbles stop rising to the surface. Now remove and let drain thouroughly. This will pull oxygen down to the roots and give your roots access to all the water and nutrients it can use. Do not water again until your plant is just starting to droop from needing water. In very small containers and under warmer temps, you may need to water every day...it may be every 3 days. Learn to read your plants.

To use bananas, place the peel in a blender with a cup or so of water and blend til smooth. Mix with your gallon of water and let steep for an hour, then strain before watering your plants with it. It is really only good for the day you make it, so only make what you need. Use the molesass at about 1 tsp per gallon of water, and, again, it can spoil pretty quickly, so only make what you need. You can combine the two together.

well if you want some good size buds you should go auto flower, maybe foot or so tall and start to finish in just 8-9 weeks and the auto flowers have great resin production and if you do a sea of green with like 6 plants you will have a sweet stash on your hands looking good on your grow mate, +rep

preciate the advice budweaver.. if i knew how to give rep, i would... but anyways... i def. appreciate the advice... let's see...

i can move the light up higher... this or coming up with a new lighting mount at the top.... i was thinking a power strip and buying some more of those plug in sockets... have it to where the lights fill each side ... like a upside down horse shoe sorta... i had that light like that for one reason... i was going to try to lst my plant a little dif... also i had smaller plants i wanted the light close too as well... the mount i have now is sorta a swivel type that moves up and down... that way as my plant got bigger and me adding smaller ones, i could adjust the light with growth... also my exhaust fan is at the top right of my box (right above the light mount), so that created a insugnificant issue on how high to place the light outlet... my hands were "foil taped" in asense... lol... but yeah i plan on improving a lot... to me it is all trial and error and learn from my previous mistakes...

another thing i have been sorta figuring out is my container to grow out of in my box... the tupperware was an idea that crossed my mind... maybe getting 2 and stacking them like i did my dixie cups... prolly wrap the bottom one in mylar or something reflective to maximize light use... i did minor lst on this plant... i got it shaped like a lightning bolt so it wouldnt grow into my light... i assumed it would flower in the open area to the left... once again, trial and error...also doing 12 and 12 from seed, by the time it started flowering (5 nodes high), i didnt want to stress it into hermie by further LSTing it (low stress training)... for this reason i will veg my next one longer to allow me more time to LST and either fim or top it... i believe that would also allow me to maximize yeild from my space... but as to what you said, i do agree... however 12 and 12 from seed didnt...lol...

watering... that is actually a tricky one... know what you mean by reading your plants... that IS something i have learned from this plant... your watering method seems like it will beat the shit outta my method, but i will explain it... being that i have one cup inside of another cup the same size.... i take the outside cup off, fill it what whatever substance i plan on giving it, than pour that whole cup in the inside cup (withmultple drain holes poked in the bottom of the inside cup), i let it drain really good... there is a slight space in between the two cups, so when i check on the plant, i see how much water is left in the bottom (usually hardly any), i pour that left over shit out, and just sorta wait till my plant says she needs something... it is usually about every 3-4 days, due to my temps running at 74 degrees average... this has seemed to work well... with m potting mix of soil and perilite, it seems that the soil holds just enough moisture and the perilite allows it to drain enough to not drown them... i have heard that over watering is a noobs most common mistake (and likewise i can see how), so i decided to play it safe by not over watering... basically with this grow i went the whole play it safe and fix stuff as the come routine...

as far as the banana thing... i AM glad i waited to hear from you on the method of feeding them this... i thought you just blended a banana to liquid and mixed it in with your feeding... good thing i waited right... i could have fucked up a good thing... this just sorta shows my demand of playing it safe i guess... your suggestion makes perfect sense and with your formulations you have, i believe you have tried it and it works... so yes... def. gonna keep that in mind as well...

casper, i am currently following a couple auto grow journals... i want to learn everything about them before i indulge into these strains.... i still havent come up with a 100% safe way of getting seeds yet... but when i do, i will definitely go for some auto strains... they were one of the first strains i did ALOT of research on... they seem like the PERFECT strain for the way i want to grow... even if i do them outdoor, the stay small... also, outdoor autoflowers would be really good for me as well... being i can got up to about 8 weeks without mowing my yard... i do garden, so would have camoflouge plant life prepared as well... being atouflower i could pretty much grow all year in my climate... all i figure i would have to do is get a male and a female to supply me with seeds for pretty much forever... i would love to get some master ryder (master kush and lowyryder) and some deisel ryder (nyc deisel and lowryder) and cross breed those... master and deisel are pretty much my two favorite strains, so the fact that they already have them in autoflowering mode is PERFECT for me... so yeah... as you can see, i have thought about your suggestions... preciate them casper and stay green muh fucka (not meant to be offensive...sorry if it did... it is what i call my friends...)... stay green...

so i have decided a harvest date... nov. 12th... i figure if i want to be really thankful when i reap what i have sown, it would be cool to smoke it on thanksgiving... the 12th will have given it 8 weeks to flower, which i feel is substancial... i will cut the night of the 12th, and let dry... i figure it will take no more than 5 days being such a small lil plant, for the remainder of the time till thanksgiving, it shall stay in my curing jar... also, i will leave my smaller buds to mature while my plant is drying and curing... i have one question, i have been told by a friend not to trim and just smoke it all as is... i was thinking i would prolly trim it to give my first bud a nice appearance... and plus to get practice trimming, even if it is not alot.. so i think i am going to trim first and not after it has dried.. i really dont want to be hacking away on dry bud... i feel it will be alil more fragile and i DO NOT want to lose what i have... not even one pistil if possible... i will sacrifice leaf for appearence, but best believe that trim will be smoked... oh i will smoke all the fruits of my labor...lol...

anyways, what piece do you think i should use? the names show up in the file name... i do have other peices, but wanted your opinions on these...

well see... this is the deal.. i have a really good dank pipe i got from a friend a while back... i have smoked out of it, but i cleaned it SPOTLESS last night.. i even told my chick not to smoke out of it (we will see if that request is upheld) till the day of thanks (giving)... it is a spoon that fits a lil under a quarter gram in it... it is perfect.. it really is... i just wanted to show off some of my old favorites... i have had these peices since 2005... they are classics (to me at least)... man i just posted a huge comment on your grow.... i will be following your thread here on out... peace out and keep the south hazy (not dirty) nuccah...

rune... i know exactly what you mean... i have varied up bulbs quite a bit... during veg i used two 13w bulbs... dif spectrums for sure... 1 blue and 1 red... when she starting showing sex, i switched to 1 26 w red spectrum cfl... after about 4 weeks of flowering and buds showed density, i switched to a 42 w red spectrum cfl... i should have used the 42 w from the beggining of flowering, however... i did not know where to find such a big cfl locally... wal mart didnt carry them... target did... and they were relatively cheap (compared to mh or hps) $6 total.. i have been in the learning phase since i started (i would like to think i will always be learning)... and to me it is all about knowledge...i know some old school growers that have stopped (or taken a break) a long time ago... they are people i look up too and respect and this small amount of info i have learned gives me a common knowledge with these people.... i think evrything i just typed makes sense (i am BAKED!!!!), if not, i will reread it and correct it...

Yeah, that Russian dude is nuts. He's growing in a small speaker (I think it's a bit smaller than a PC case) and he uses a 70w HPS. His construction work looks very professional and clean.

Dr. Bud doesn't ScrOG. He grows "budcicles"...usually single cola plants. He grows in trimmed down 20oz soda bottles under CFLs using a perpetual SOG technique. This is the guy that taught me "root bound is a state of mind"...you don't need gallons and gallons of soil in monster pots to grow some dense nugs of killer dank. This is a lesson more folks should try to learn.

Even if you don't try to duplicate those results, it's still good knowledge to have. Understand the principles and apply them to your own grow.




This guy is a student of Dr. Bud's. His pics start on page 2, and maybe can give you more insight into the method.

exactly... that is why i opted for the 12 and 12 method... if you would like to make your grow perpetual, grow out a mother, design a mother box, and design a box big enough for about 5 clones... get your times right and dialed in and this micro 12 and 12 could supply you all year with decent smoke.. and it's free... lol... the above idea is what i am sorta planning on doing after i am through with this grow... i have about 5 seeds planted in soil now trying to get the best possible mother for this... also... your mother plant does not have to be huge either... just large enough to accomadate your needs for clones... look into bonsai mother palnts... i believe there are a couple good threads on here, if not check out icmag...

The more I read through this, the more I think I am going to tackle a micro grow this weekend. I do have some extra boxes and fans laying around, and even an extra timer and seeds. So, what the hell, I'll drop it in a party cup and go crazy.
