What is a perculator?
​

A perculator (?perc? for short) is basically an additional water chamber found in the main shaft of the bong tube. Several companies use different designs, but they all focus on more water to smoke interaction, making for a better filtered and cooler hit. Some of the better known companies take it a step farther by adding diffusers into their percs, which basically break the smoke up into smaller bubbles making a cooler smoke.

Here is an example of a 3-chambered Phx trinity.




What is a diffuser?
A diffuser is another type of downstem for a bong. Contrary to a downstem, a diffuser resembles a test tube as its sealed on the end or pierced with many small holes or slits. These slits break up the smoke into smaller bubbles than a normal downstem.

Why the need for smaller bubbles? The smaller the bubbles, the greater the surface area of the smoke that contacts the water, thus filtering and cooling the smoke more efficiently. This makes the bong almost silent silent. Many glass companies sell diffusers to fit their bong: Roor, Phx, and Bluedot.

So don't use peculator, or a diffuser for that matter since it increases the interaction with water. I personally want to try one.

why does everyone have to nit pick and be dicks when someone is just trying to put some useful info out there. I thought the post was informative to people who don't know what a perc or diffuser is and what they're purpose is

No, this thread is to tell people that bongs won't get you high because they have water in them. Obviously a lot of people have been wrong and continue to use bongs without getting all that high.... Someone needs to do something about this.

I personally dont care for percs the diffusers are ok but the percs just make it more difficult to clean

i agree they do make it a pain in the ass to get clean... I personally have a pocket bubbler water pipe and a 2 1/2 foot double perc with laydown perc... and i think that if you feel as though you are really able to notice the little amount of thc that you lose by filtering through water then you need better weed cause ive been smoking through bongs for years and never have been able to tell that im losing thc... but i was told by some of the guys at illadelph that they believe the reason why bongs make people think they get higher is because of the lack of oxygen to the brain during a bong hit is longer than a pipe hit
