Can this bulb work in a regular lamp?

You can't use it in a standard socket, it's a HPS bulb. Use CFL's if you're looking to use standard household lamps.

Ah, okay. I suspected I'd need a special lamp, since I saw flood lights and such sold, and I couldn't find a 65w HPS (which made me think it's different than a regular setup)

Can anyone link me to red spectrum CFLs? Or just a great place to sift through a selection? Lowes and Home Depot aren't giving me what I'm looking for. 65w max.

My local Lowes and HD don't have much of a selection either. I'd probably just order from these guys. I'm not using CFL's anymore but I wish I had used that site when I was.

Wow, thanks for the link, nice selection.

This is what I was just looking at (which is also at Lowes for less):

Replaces standard high wattage bulbs Instant on-no flicker is Energy Star approved Length: 5.75"/30 watt - 10.25" on 65 watt 30W on card - 65W box packed ESL65TN 65W HIGH WATTAGE CFL SIZE:65 Watts 120 Volt EQUIVALENT:To 300 Watt

Color Temperature: 2700K
Lumens: 3900

Then I saw they also make a much weaker, blue bulb. In my vegging, I'm only using one lamp right now (and for now may only need one lamp w/ that 3900 lumines bulb). So I was thinking about taking two of these blue ones, and mount them elsewhere near the growing. Not directly on the plants, but it should tint the overall lighting in the room.

Or is that TOO blue? lol

It's funny, but the Wal-mart here stocks a better selection of cfl's than our local Home Depot or Lowes. Might be worth looking.

That looks like a fine bulb.

This seems perfect for vegging, I just don't have the kind of money needed, and I'd have to wait for it to arrive (I'm within my first week of vegging, and only plan on vegging 3 weeks) so it doesn't seem worth it. I wish I could find it locally.

why cant you use that bulb in a regular light socket?
LOL mr get er dun
why are you giving advise about something you don't know about¿

HPS isn't a standard bulb by any means.
50w HPS bulb means you gotta have a 50w HPS ballast, that would be a waste but anyways.

a ballast controls electric flows and maintains them so they only emit the correct amount of electricity. without it you could end up with an exploded bulb. i know, it sucks. i wish you could just plug in the bulbs

could wind up with a fire that way not to even mention.
That wouldn't be cool at all, that's why you shouldn't advise plp when you don't know what your going on about, sorry man but this is a personal safety issue here not just about someones plant life, but their own lives possibly.
