I'm gonna keep lurking...

But I'm liking it more and more...

Question..

Why do you feel the need for an intake fan?

I would use every cfm available for either exhaust or light cooling...

A passive intake should be fine...

At least it was in my tent...;-)

Ya the reason for the 5" I have no clue...... but whatever ya know.... The inline fan is a 4" grow bright fan (htgsupply) and it is rated at "170"cfm. The black stanley fan is rated at like 265 cfm and cools the hood alot better. Its also NOWHERE near as loud as the inline fan. I've been going over stuff in my head ALL day at work lmao (I could really not stop thinking how I could run this better) and tommorrow when I get up I'm gonna take the exhaust off the hood and just run it straight to the carbon filter out of the tent. The open end of the reflector is pushed right up againsnt the tent and I just feel like it doesn't have enough room to get proper suction. Also I'm gonna clean up the closet so the fan ducting doesn't have to be so long. I'm also planning on getting another fan for the inside of tent maybe two, and also a hepa filter for the intake fan so nothing gets sucked up lol. Oh and as for the reason for the intake fan, cause just with the one 6" fan going with no intake it sucks the tent sides in really tight you can tell its not getting enough air flow. With the intake fan it sits normal. I'll be taking and posting pics tommorow of my progress and of the plants. I'm topping the BUKU in the morning. Anyways guys till the :blsmoke:

Yeah cool that makes sense then.
Use the most powerful to exhaust well done ;). ...and the quietest lol

It must be working well to suck the sides in too.
Now I'm sure we under stand why the need for and intake fan.
Good point though Gypsy.
You mustn't have much in the way of passive vents then in that tent?

Do you have a sealed hood?
By the sounds of it you do.
I would keep some form of extraction on that hood if so.
All heat is generated from the bulb so if you can suck it away from that do it.

If the intake of your hood is inhibited, rather than removing extraction away from your lamp, could you open the hood up?
Remove the glass?

In my stealth cab I like to have the extraction side of things combined.
Suck the heat from the bulb and room through the one inlet.
I run an open cool tube with inline attached which does both.

Glad you been going over everything at work.
Keeps work interesting hey... lol.

Catch ya soon dude.

Ok ya taking the glass out of the hood is accutally a really good idea. Even though I just got done switching everything around ...... :wall:. Temps still pushing 95!!!!!! I might have to upgrade fans to a real 6" inline fan :wall::wall: Hopefully I can figure a way around this. The tent has 3 passive intake ports and then also a 4" sock on the bottom of each wall. Tonight when I get home I'm planning on trying to use the other 4" fan as an exhaust as well. Only thing is I don't know how I'm gonna seal those ports back up when the lights go out everday and especially during flower, when the lights go off at 6am. We do still have to get up and have a place to get dressed lol. My girl would kill me if I told her she had to pick out what she was wearing for the next day the night before cause we couldn't go into our walkin closet and change hahahahahahaha. Anyways its a work in progress I'm trying not to rush anything so I don't miss anything. Oh btw the BUKU's bottom leaves are looking a bit bad, not sure if she is just leaching the Nitrogen out of them or what, when I repotted I did notice that the root ball was getting pretty big. She has gotten nothing but water so far. I had to switch soils this grow cause I just plain and simple couldn't afford the roots organics, instead I got Jungle Grwoth from lowes..... Its supposed to be the best cheap stuff lol. We will see, the nutrient rating I think is like .25-.20-.10 which isn't much at all but the bag claims to feed plants for 2 months. I'll use water for another three weeks. I'd rether them be needing nutrients then for me to burn them. Also the leafs are kinda drooping I dunno maybe it could be that she was thirsty as I watered her real good and then transplanted (took pics before) the lights just shut off so I won't be able to see anything till I get off work tonight at midnight................. Anyways here are the pics.... Also I think I get some light burn on the TSS not a big deal as I'm getting rid of them but I don't want to burn my kush plant like that. I'm not quite sure on how far the light is away now have to wait till I get off work.

95 is pretty high but I'm not surprised if no heat is getting sucked away from the bulb.
I don't think you'll ever see cool temps in there considering the amount of lumens you have in that area.
Try sucking it back off the hood without the glass.
New set ups always take a little dialing in.

Have those passive ports got a flap over them that keeps out the light?
You can always get some flexible duct and put an 'S' bend in them which will allow air in but no light out.

Concerning the plants they look over watered and probably suffering moisture stress.
Leaves look papery and have canoeing and cupping to them.
I'd slow down on the watering and let them recover.

Also keep and eye on basics like PH and RH.

If you've just transplanted the Buku and given it a good watering in.
I wouldn't water it for a while now and it should come good.
Also get any water out of the catchment tray.

Maybe I am missing something...

But I had a 600HPS in my homemade 20"x36"x54" tent with no issues at all... :-P
I think ambient outside temps play an important role in grow room temps.
Your at the North Pole so I would doubt you ever have heat problems Gypsy
As far as I know GFK is probably in the middle of a Florida summer.

Well... my tent was set up inside of a hotel room...

Ambient temperature of the outside world is irrelevant... I think...

I kept the room at 70F...

I think my folks in Florida keep the AC at the house around 75F...

But I suppose I could be wrong... I didn't read everything...

I'll keep my mouth shut and watch...;-)

fucking gypsies...

Ya I'm gonna try taking the glass out in the morning when I get up. And ya the summer heat/humidity is INSANE i mean it might say 99 but I'm telling you it feels like 110 EASY!!!!! Keeping the house 75 would be a very hard feet to beat. I'm telling you the ac unit would be running all day. Just to keep it 80 in here last month it cost us 300.00 dollars and thats with all the lights off inside for the majority of the day besides the grow op lights which were cfls so I don't see why they would matter too much. I think I'm gonna down grade to a 250 here pretty soon. I might see if my hydro wants to do a trade or something. They have a 250 for 99.99 plus tax not to bad if you ask me considering 75w hps's are 90.00 at home depot. As for the over watering I was kinda thinking that I'm not gonna water again till she really really really needs it and I can tell. I hope things turn up for me. Mammath your bagseed grow saw temps like this correct? Mammath/Gypsy you guys think the light being 20" away is too close considering the size of tent or should I get them closer. I'm just really worried about burning that kush straight to hell. I'm trying to not think about it sooooo much but ha thats hard as shit. I wanna get this shit going great and going strong. I guess its just gonna take alot of work and mulah oh well. Wish I was Young Mulah Baby hahaha lmao I'm so baked/drunk..... Anyways guys fuck here is to this grow going smoothly :joint:

I keep my non-cooled 600 2' away ... and I have to adjust often... they're HOT...

The aircooled 600s can be 6"... I have plants grow into the glass all the time...

Yeah my bagseed stealth grow in the middle of summer saw consistent temps of 110-115F during the light cycle.
This was due to the fact that outside temps were 115F and inside my shed it was 120F+.
Certainly not ideal but that plant grew considerably well.
MJ can take a lot of punishment.

First thing you'll notice if your plant is getting too hot is the outer leaf margins will start to curl up.
Leaves do this in order to escape the heat.
20" sounds like a good distance for a 400w but you need to read your plant so you can see if it's causing trouble at that level.
Should be fine though. While the plant is small I wouldn't put it any closer.

You'll get there GFK mate.
She's just been over watered a bit and transplanted, so there's a bit of stress there, but she'll come good.
Give here few days to recover and keep us posted.

Man now this seems harder than using cfls.... Although Im sure the tent size in hindering me.... oh well. I got temps down to 90 by the way by just leaving the front door a bit unzipped and the closet door open to dump the heat elsewhere. I still haven't had the time to switch the intake to exhaust probably on wednesday we shall see. I'm planning on stretching the next watering till next sunday. I gave her a pretty good amount with the transplant so I'm thinking it will be fine for a week. I'll keep checking though. Anyways I'm out.

Ok so what do you think about this Mammath?

I've been doing some thinking on switching the light on time to 9 or 10 o'clock I know you shouldn't do this but this gives me the ability to be up the next morning during flowering in time to shut the passive intake ports before the lights go off. I was planning on giving the plants 24hrs darkness before I switch the sunrise time as I know it causes stress. Should I wait till she recovers a bit before the move or should I just do it now cause it needs to go ahead and happen? Its gonna be a 4 hour time difference on sunrise times not too to bad IMO just wanted to see what you guys think. BTW hopefully when I get off work tonight I'll have time to experiment with the exhaust fan and what not so I might go ahead and switch sunrise times.

During veg you can mess around with sunrise and sunset times without really worrying the plants to much.
Just change it, shell be fine.

Ok awesome just the answer I was looking to find. And wow the BUKU must've been pretty rootbound she is already looking WAY better. I topped her last night before bed and the leaves right where I topped are already pretty much 100% straightened back out!!!! And I'm not gonna have time to switch the intake/exhaust till wesnesday. I don't feel like fucking with it at 10:30 at night lol. Anyways I'll snap/post some pics in another two days. Till then :blsmoke:

Yeah I don't like to work on a grow when I'm tired.
I usually end up breaking something or doing things half assed.

The good thing is that now you've been running this way you'll be able to see if changing things up make a difference to temps.

All the best mate.

Ok I got everything switched up to try it out. Just in the 15 minutes of the doors being shut I saw temps drop to 95 where are as before with the doors shut it was seeing like 105, so damn already thats good news for me. The ambient outside temp isn't helping me AT ALL, I'm sure during flower it won't be such a problem as outside temps should start to drop by mid september. I'm going to run some errands for a bit hopefully it will give me more of an idea of what temps are going to look like in the future. I'm also gonna get me another one of those fans I have hanging for the inside of the tent. Wow what a lot of fans hahahaha they should provide plenty of fresh air for my girl. Anyways I'm out I'll try and get some pics up maybe tommorow maybe when I get back we will just have to see ay?
