over/under watering

The top fan leaves are strong and straight, as are the bottom few sets. The middle fan leaves are drooping and the inner node leaves are growing like hell pushing up on the original fan leaves in the middle of the plant that are sagging. I've been afraid to over water, now I fear under watering.... any help?

I'm thinking I'm underwatering. Here's my theory; The lower leaves are getting water, the inner node leaves are stealing water from the fan leaves in the middle, and the plant is pumping water to the top trying to grow. How much water "per serving" for a three footer on average? It's in a three gallon pot and if I water until I get drainage that's going to be about a gallon of water... I've never watered more than a quart at once.

Water the shit out of it.

Over watering occurs when you water too often not so much when you give them too much at 1 time. You almost cannot give them too much water.

Pics are always a help - but drooping leaves in the middle of the plant with erect leaves surrounding them - that's a bit unusual, may not be a water issue

three foot tall, three gallon bucket. A dozen dime sized holes in the bottom. Late veg/early flower stage. As I said I think the lower leaves are getting water first because they are closest to the source, inner node growth may be "stealing" water from fan leaves, and ANY plant is going to pump to the top for growth. Just my theory. I've never watered until I had drainage. This is my first indoor try.... Outside is so much easier to let nature work.... I watered 24 ounces of PH balanced water with no nutes. Waited 10 minutes and had no drainage. Watered another 16 ounces and now I have about 5 ounces of drainage. Everything I read says overwatering is the worst mistake. Thanks for the help, guess I'll find out like everyone else through trial and error.

if you never watered until drainage, by that you mean no outflow?
that is probably your problem - may well be getting a salt build

And like I said, the inner sprouts coming from the node intersections of the stalk have been growing like their asses were on fire and they're trying to get away for the last two weeks.

on the whole, you're probably doing well from the description
sounds like you were underwatering, but the indications of a problem seem mild
i'm a old time outdoor grower myself, said many of the same things at the start of my indoor grow(s)
but once you get down the tricks of indoor - you'll find there are great things about indoor
i had a lot of weed rustling back in the days of growing outside
