New Hydro Setup

Ok, so this is the hydroponic set that has been passed down to me (my buddy bought it and the decided to get a bigger/better one, so he never used it). The directions the guy gives in the listing is pretty straight forward. However, I plan to use Flora Nova as my nutrients instead of the ones he gives. Is that a good idea?

BTW, what kind of hydroponic system is this? SOG?

For Rockwool cubes, which ones are better:

After my seeds germinate and I place them in the Rockwool cubes, what do I do with them before I place them in the hydroponics? (I assume I keep them underlight, damp/moist) But what medium do the cubes go in? Or do they just stand up by themselves (I mean should I just put them on a tray until they start rooting?)

Where is the best place to get a timer (for lights) and do I need a timer for this hydro set up?

Lastly, is there a list (not a walkthrough) that lists everything you need before you start hydroponic growing? And maybe some pointers of where to by the equipment (lights, rock wool, etc)

welcome to the forums =)

rooting trays are generally for clones, but you can use them for seedlings if you want, or you can place the cubes directly in the medium. Most hydro growers use net pots with some sort of medium (perlite/hydroton/coco) and rockwool/starter plugs.

I got my light timer from radio shack, it was only like $6.

OK, thanks for the reply.

Do you have an opinion on the rockwool, which one is better?

I am planning on getting autoflowering - so after they germinate and I put them in the rockwool, take the rockwool and put them in my netpots?

I AM supposed to put the rockwool in the hydrotron (rocks in the net pot), right?

Then..(last question, I think)

Once I have them in the SOG hydroponic system. How will they get water?

I have been told/read that you only fill the reservoir to the bottom the of net pots. If that is the case, how will the water reach the plant (until it gets bigger)?

I've noticed the CFLs are cheaper to buy and run (electricity). For a two plant set up, how many watts would anyone recommend? And what kind of CFL?

Thanks
