Cloning question

Hi i have a question about cloning!
In all the videos or threads about cloning i have seen the grower usually keeps a mother plant in vegetative and grows clones until they are big enough to be put in the budding room.
my question is can you cut clones off of the mother and leave the clones in the vegetative while you put the mother in the budding room? so by the time your harvest comes you will be ready to flower a new set of the same plant.

Yeah do it that way. Then you just keep one of your clones back as a mother plant.

hey no problem. i just did that the night before last bc i couldnt wait on my little guys anymore. i plan on putting the clones in whenever they are ready bc i feed the larger plant and the clones the same food (lucas formula) and ill just pull the first one when its ready then the little guys will come out later when they are done. i use a flood table so its just as easy to feed one as it is to feed 5.

i never used powder but im sure it will work just fine. might not be a good idea in a cloner that mist water on the cuttings - could wash it off.

Im poor so i was planning to put into a dixie beer pong cup with soil. would that work if i put a moisture dome over them?

thats funny you describe a dixie cup as a beer pong cup - man im out of the loop - hehe!
i bet it will work no problem. when i clone i put the cuttings in rockwool/peat pellets or whatever then i place a dome over them all and cover the top of the dome with a couple layers of paper towel to keep some of the light out. i also close all the vents on the dome bc my clones dont like fresh air for a couple days at least - no idea why.
i enjoy cloning as much as i do flowering.

im not sure to be honest but i did notice that the cuttings didnt droop over as much if i shaded them a little for the first night or two. i may have too much light for the little ones in my room. i have 10 cfls in my veg side. maybe someone else can offer a little more advice on how much light the cuttings like. i belive i read on here once that the grower would turn the lights off for the first night but i havent tried it out yet - maybe next time.

This is what I intend to do.

Dont just use "soil". Use a very light seed starter mix or something like that, if you cant get rockwool, or dont want to make a bubbler.

24 hrs of flouro lighting, not TOO bright.

Even on 18/6 or 24/0 light, a plant will show sex (preflowers) when it matures. Usually after about 6 weeks veg in my experience. Depends on strain and conditions.
if you flower it to see the sex and THEN take clones, you'll have to revert the clones back to veg. this can delay the rooting process and stall out the clones some. IMO Your best bet, if you have the space, is to veg until maturity, then take clones from the females. Then flower the female or flower the clones what ever you want to do. I like your original plan.

Rooting powder has always worked well for me... I can't see any difference between it and the gel. I did clone a mother and then bud the mother out but the clone I saved to replace the mother got sick and died on me so I would be careful if it is a strain you dont want to lose. I lost a great strain and would love to have it back. I guess thats just the way it goes sometimes, I am looking for a new strain to replace it still and just havent found one that could live up to it...
