Legalize MJ...

Allow Texas, portions of California, Arizona, and New Mexico to the Mexicans and let them succeed from the Union (most of them have wanted it for over a hundred years anyway) and the let the border states be the 'military front' against the Mexican mafia.

That way those of us not on border states can have our legal MJ and the border states that wanted to leave the Union anyway can deal with their borders and let everyone else live in peace.

If MJ were legalized, decriminalized, or medicinalized nation wide there would simply be too many 'targets' for the cartels. They wouldn't have a 'single' target or point of blame other than the US government, and they have to stand in line to blame the US government as many many other people have dibs in the blame line.

IF and I say IF they had the testicular matter required to do a full terrorist type attack it would last ... once. Even with 'Love peace and Hair-Grease' Obama in office, our government would gladly turn Mexico into a bombed wasteland if they pulled a 9/11. It wouldn't be pretty but it would happen.

The bottom line is that prohibition creates violence. We saw it in Miami in the 80's with coke, we're seeing it today in Mexico with all drugs, and the bottom line is that there's a common thread in both cases. Latin culture gangs fighting over market dominanace. In Miami it was Cubans vs. Columbians. Now it's Mexicans on Mexicans.

My question here is who exactly would deal with a latin conneted to ANY of these countries known for their violent tendencies in this buisness? I certainly wouldn't. I'm not being racist, just pragmatic.

If the apple stores suddenly started practicing ritual murders to dominate the market over Microsoft I'm pretty sure that direct patronage of Apple Stores would stop completely.

Under the theory that ANYONE who cuts into the drug cartel profit is a target, then every single grower on this forum is 'technically' a target of cartels WITHOUT legalization.

How many cartel people have shot up medical mj stores in CA? Anyone have a statistic on that?

i agree 100% accept i think we would create a vacuum of criminals out of work and that would lead to a rise in other crimes, whether it would be smuggling harder drugs or gangs extorting people or whathave you, i agree there wouldnt be a direct target to attack persay, i just believe the US itself would be a target for other organized crimes to offset their losses!! as i said living in a border town, you see things are getting bad already as they are fighting over the lucrative drug trade, if that trade is made less lucrative, id say we would pay in other areas!!

I guess you missed the post where I said I have lived a 9 iron from mexico. Yea, it sucks that the crime comes over the border. I really think it should be a much tighter border. If you are saying its too easy to cross, then I agree mang! But I will not live in fear of criminals and base my views according to that fear. Thats whats happening in Mexico now. People are afraid and shit has gotten so outta hand they cant stand up anymore.

Besides we already agreed that mexican drug cartels are not going to close up shop. They will simply take it to more lucerative markets. It will make their trade a little more difficult, but not much. Cartels already have the transport in and out of gateways like mexico (cocaine made futher south...). It will change their opperations but they will still do business. Profit margins will be tighter but the cartels already make more $$ than they know what to do with, especially considering the cost of living in Mexico and South America..

i have to admit, i am wrong in the since that there couldnt possibly be a retail market if weed were lgalized here in the US, if done like in amsterdam and with all the strains out there even growers would probably buy other strains just to have a variety, i got caught up in the fact that i grow so why would i pay and pay tax on it?

Your right, the major cartel and mafia leaders would market in something else. Drug smuggling is only a SMALL portion of their business. The common black market item these days, down in that area, is primarily kidnapping and human trafficking. Those are quite lucrative in the Mexican areas, but they also come with insanely high risk. So drug smuggling is tame in comparison, at least for the organizations. If smuggling, growing, distributing failed to be profitable they'd move on to another black market item that generated cash flow. There's be minor direct backlash on the local level, but that would be tiny in the grand scheme of the damage caused by these cartels.

Then there'd be a new 'fear' tactic enacted by the government. For the last 100 years there's been a war on 'something' that has kept the American people in 'line' with what the government wants. I think we'll see legalization because Washington is loosing it's credibility in continuing to finance the war on drugs with our tax dollars (from beginning investigation to incarceration the .gov is making money, but they're figuring out we're on to their scheme.) If they continue this and more Tommy Chongs and Ron Whites ( 7/8 of a g ... common!) come out of the wood work the government will be left with little choice because they'll get a unviersal 'WTF' from the people. The media is getting too 'pro' legalization because of the money the advertisers are making from us watching things like Weeds and aka_Tommy Chong. The government knows it's lost the war on drugs but also the brain washing policies they've been running for 70 years.) They government will cave, it's happening everywhere.

The criminals will move on to other endeavors that are probably equally illegal and more stomach churning to us than their current actions. Then we'll have the war on that, whilch will allow the government to control our fears adequately and turn a dime from our tax dollars. I don't care which party is in office, the .5% of the population that holds the money knows that they can't hold on to this one much longer. Failing policies have historically exposed the worse profiteers of unjust actions, see Oliver North.

It will end and things will remain status quo, normal is NOT an accurate description. Hardcore criminals will move on, mid level home grower american producers will probably open a legal shop (if they were smart enough to save profits.)

At the end of the day ending prohibition will reduce violent crime in the streets over dealer turf wars and big guy - little guy battles. Lives will be saved and money will be saved and earned. The major cartels and mafias will move on and remain the same, we won't notice much difference other than a new crime to be afraid of.
