Money is a gateway drug.

I would hope that after some intense scrutiny by government auditors, There would be exposed some criminal behaviour, that would nulify those contracts once and for all. Maybe even put some of the more agregious parties behind bars where they belong. Yeah that's right, since the Government virtually owns about 75% of AIG, they have a right to audit and hold culpable the wrong doers. If someone is making megabucks to run a company and "keep it within the law", then if they don't, they should be prosecuted just as a street criminal would be.

Not retroactively which is what they are doing... those contracts are legal and valid. The Govt. will lose this fight. Putin, Chavez & Co. are probably laughing their arses off.

I have to agree with you here, Damn. To blame Obama though is not correct, he has so much on his plate that he has to rely on his underlings for some help, delegation I believe it's called. Now I've said, if Gheithner knew and didn't make Obama aware, then he should go. I think he was too close to wall street to make objective decisions anyway.
JFYI: BONUS;
: something in addition to what is expected or strictly due: as a: money or an equivalent given in addition to an employee's usual compensation b: a premium (as of stock) given by a corporation to a purchaser of its securities, to a promoter, or to an employee c: a government payment to war veterans d: a sum in excess of salary given an athlete for signing with a team

I think there's two sides to this argument.

The first of course is the companies that got bail outs.

In this case I must side with Miss. I can only agree that they should not be getting any bonuses, because they are already getting a bonus.

What bonus?

They still have jobs. Instead of letting the companies liquidate (which sould have been done) we kept their companies open using tax payer funds. At that point the executives, and traders should count their blessings and consider it a bonus that they STILL HAVE A FUCKING JOB.

The second side is that of companies that did not get bail outs.

Those companies of course should still be able to make any choice they want regarding bonuses, with only input provided by the shareholders, board and the employees in question.

I have a problem with Bonuses in general. It seems that any executive that just does their job is entitled to a bonus. What ever happened to "award for excellence" as a precurser to a bonus? These people we speak of all have 6 figure plus salaries, is that not enough compensation for a years work? Just when did the executives vote themselves these bonuses? It's scandalous.

Typically the bonuses are given to avoid Federal Law Prohibiting Salaries exceeding 1 Million from being written off as payroll expenses.

Tax Avoidance is not a crime.

God help us if that ever changes, because since I am giving up smoking (Hell If I'm paying more taxes) I am technically doing it for tax avoidance reasons, thus if it becomes a crime the Federal Government would be able to cart me off to prison.

Which would be very fucking lame.

As far as the salaries + bonuses being scandalous...

Unless you are a shareholder, then it's NONE OF YOUR F* BUSINESS.

Just like it's NONE OF YOUR F* BUSINESS what I make.

And None of My F* Business what you make.

Somebody call 911 .......................

nah, just joshin with ya TBT

It was getting kind of lonely out on this limb.
:)

What, I can't take a logical approach to this situation?

I personally think they should have been allowed to fail. It's not like propping them up has helped the economy any.

I think people are getting things a little mixed up in here. You can't really blame the companies for paying the bonuses with public funds. They were contractually obligated to pay them. The people you need to blame are the leaders who decided to give them the money without apparently asking them what they would use it on.

If people would have asked to see how funds were being allocated before they decided to hand over all our money maybe they could have gotten people within the company to forgo there bonuses in exchange for bailing the company out. Of course they didn't bother to take time to look into anything and just threw money at them. Don't blame the private company. Personally I think they deserve some credit for being able to make some serious cash without providing any goods or services.

If congress and the president really cared they would have sorted this out before it happened. Unless of course they are actually as stupid as they seem, which is a far bigger fear for me than corruption.

This is pretty much one of the most ignorant statements that I have seen in a while. You obviously have no ambition whatsoever. Or a job, or a life. You seem to be consumed with jealousy. You sit on your ass all day and all night (obviously) on the computer trying to think of things to say on rollitup.org. When your hubby brings home the bacon does he have to fry it also or will you at least do that? I would rather have what you call a "money addiction" than a "lazy addiction". Life only happens once and this ain't no practice run. Let's face it, money is what makes the world go 'round.
As far as the AIG bigwheels go, more power to them. They are only doing what this ridiculous government is allowing them to do. The majority of the people voted for socialism, now deal with it.

You don't know me. So you have no idea what you are blithering about.

20 states have launched investigations into AIG.

It would seem I'm not the only one who feels their bonus checks aren't justified.

Their addiction to money is about to be their downfall. Wait and see.

I know you quite well. You spend your entire life sitting in front of a computer "blithering", that tells me everything I need to know about you. If your government is stupid enough to hand me a million dollar bonus I'm going to take it. There is the downfall. A bill was passed by a bunch of idiots that never read what they were passing. Nor did they care.
