How to reach max potential?

Hi everyone im starting to think about how I should grow my next grow. I can only grow one plant(wife haha). Ive got a 100watt jumbo veg cfl and a 400watt hps for flowering. How can I make that plant reach its full potential in yield? I was thinking of scrog but all that bending and pruning scares me! If I just veg a long time and then flower, would that be alright...(im looking for about 4 ounces but it can be more or less)

honestly i cant see much potential with just one plant. wouldnt it be better for you to have 6 small plants instead of one large more noticeable one?
cause you can never determine the potential of these plants just from your point of view. ive got 4 plants which are exactly the same and one 'dwarfed' and doesnt want to grow. no deficiencies and all just plain old short wanker and i feed them the same nutes everything.
you should talk to your wife about the just one plant thing. size is not everything, i see alot of people here which do exactly the other way round of what your thinking and have the best weed around.( or so they gloat about ) flowering small rooted cloned in 4 weeks to get a small, but strong yield.
and you should throw away the vegging light (or maybe put it as an extra) and use the 400 watt hps for vegging too, just use different light times

Thanks for your tips guys, alright two plants is fine with my wife, three would be pushing it! I was going to get a 5 pack of fem seeds and grow two with a veg time of about a month and then flower. I would probably top them once or twice. You reckon I could get about 7-9 ounces like that? I know its a lot but i've got a ducting fan, good soil, good nutes and a shit load of room in height and about a metre in length (probably 40cm width).
What should I do...?

On a side note how do you feel about all the irish and english residing and working in your country?? Is the recession hitting bad over there yet???

Yea its great for outdoor growing here but its not the season yet and I cant wait a year to get some buds. I'm too stoned for your other question(ill come back to it later). So what should I do? Top it uncle bens method to get four colas? He said he got ten o's of it that way(thats not too bad!!!!)

Mate check out what I get from my plants and if you have the room to grow one big plant and you use the 400watt throughout the whole grow you could possibly get about 12 ounces in less than 4 months.

as regarding your height grow, the bigger the plants the bigger the yield but it doesnt mean bigger or better potency. whats the use of smoking a whole ounce of bud and get a small tingle when you could smoke a fifth and get paralised?
topping a plant is not always best cause youll be minimising the thinkness of the bud from the main cola. believe me one main cola is much better than a hundred small puffy empty balls of shitty weed.

the best idea around : FDD2BLK's idead that is. to harvest a small bunch of plants every 4 weeks. cutting the lower branches will help the plant to put all its effort on the main cola hence more potency. and if they say that the essence of frangrance sits in small bottles ...weed should be called dior parfume

Yea i agree with you on that but I can only grow two maybe three plants so i'm going to have to go with more yield than better potency. I want to sell some of it to pay off for the light and such, the rest is personal.
My first grow which i'm doing now is is coco fibre(canna) and I'm finding it extreamly hard for some reason but they do grow a lot faster. i don't like it that u have to use that many nutes though. i'm trying soil for the next one..

yea but all that weird training and shit....i dont know. If its really worth it I could try it but wouldnt fem seeds turn hermie under all that stress..
And I've also got a little problem with one of my plants in coco. It looks nute burned so I havent given it any nutes for like two weeks now and it hasnt grown one bit since then.. I'm starting to think its a deffiecency but the top leaves are a bit curled up, got brown tips and some of the lower fan leaves are losing their colour to a pale yellow...

Forget the veg light, just grow it under the HPS... 400 watts is overkill for 1 plant. I grew my first plant to 1 1/2 feet under 50 watts of cfls and then flowered with a 150watt hps... i finished with a 3 1/2 foot plant that gave about 1 1/2 ounces dry. I've been vegging its clone under the HPS and its growing a lot more dense. If you veg under that 100watt cfl it'll become a scrawny christmas tree with almost no growth at the top and a lot of undergrowth... which'll be far away from the light. Veg it under the 400watt hps after the first week or two and i can guarantee your plant will be a lot closer to its full potential. The color spectrums do matter, but that HPS is more than enough to make the plant grow beastly even if its on the "wrong" side of the spectrum.

yea thats true aswell but the reason I have that veg light is because I dont want to use 400watts of electricity for 18 hours. I was planning to use it in flowering when it only need 12. I might veg it for three weeks then top it and veg for a further 2 weeks top again and then flower, that way most of the canopy is even and its not just one main cola. What do u think?

go with bens topping tecnique let it grow to 5-6 notches then top it after the 2nd true node from the bottom it will cause 4 new tops covered with buds if feed properly

yea does that technique always work?What if it gets fimmed by accident because I saw he doesnt cut directly above the node he cuts about 2 cm above it and u do that when you fim a plant.. But I will give it a try. Should I grow two or just one if I top it like that.

Grow as much as you can, if 2's the limit then you want to veg for more than 5 weeks, go for 8 weeks and you'll get twice as much bud.
You can top and LST (low stress training) like I did with the plant in my avatar,
it was vegged for 6 weeks and I got 4 ounces off it under 1 400W HPS.
It's worth the effort if you are limited.

BTW, thats a 12 inch pot to give you an idea of size, and the pic was taken at 5 1/2 weeks of 12/12.
Unfortunately my camera got lost so it's the latest pic I had.

I'm not very experienced. I could give it a try but i dont really have too much time on my hands and so ive decided to grow just a couple nice bushes(lol)
