caddy's Journal #1 - Papaya & Haze 19 x Skunk #1

Here the grow is in two stages, first the tall plants in the back tub have just finished 3 weeks of flowering. The clones in the front tub are now 10 days info flower. In the previous picture update the clones were at 6 days in flower, as you can see they've nearly doubled in width and in height.. doing well ladies!

Onto the pictures.. Basically just photos of the cola's and branches forming. I'm mostly sorry to say that the back two papaya plants must be goners. They are alive and growing but just became runted with the other plants towering over them not allowing much light on them.

I didn't want to overprune the others and I'm glad I didnt now that I see the bud sites coming off of what I would have taken. I'm not removing the small papaya's, we'll just see how they turn out I guess. There are 5 very strong plants flowering nicely, 1 is papaya the other 4 are all haze19xskunk1.

The pictures below are just at various shots of the initial crop and one of a branch forming which I hope fills out into a very nice bud spear. It has the potential, now just to see if 5-6 more weeks of flowering will fill it in as so. Hopeful thinking :)

P.S - Yes, that is a blade iron and a molding piece propping two of the plants up, haha. They're just too heavy and with the worthless first round of net pots with thin edges on top they can fall through the holes in the lid quite easily. The two new 30 gallons have a much more improved net cup and hole where this cannot become an issue.

An additional note- I have just bought 1L of both Big bud & Overdrive.

The current 7 in the back tub will begin big bud and overdrive in one week. The clones will start receiving just big bud in a week and then onto overdrive per the nutrient calculator recommendations.

After getting a feel for the differences between both crops I'll adjust and customize the sensi bloom A & B, Big Bud & Overdrive feeding schedule.

how tall have the haze 19 x skunk got and is there much of a smell coming from them?
Tall. I believe they're done growing in height from when I started flowering them.. Mine are about 5 feet or so. Had they been vegged longer I'm quite confident they would be much taller.

Please keep in mind, the haze19xskunk1 were kicking off the SOG and were just in vegetation state for a longer period than most would probably do.

As far as smell, I don't smell a thing in the house.. I just use the tent and vent the thing down to the floor with 4" duct as you can see in my pictures. Inside the tent smells quite nice ;) but nothing outside, at all. There is no carbon filter either, that's the strange part. My veg cabinet stinks like all hell in the house if the carbon filter is off of it yet the flowering tent is taking the smell to /dev/null itself, heh.

Looking real good man, starting up a similar setup soon as everything arrives. One question what kind of nuts did you use?

Damn man, that tent filled up fast! Everything is looking great too!

My tent arrived last week and for $120 bucks w/free shipping it was a good deal. I'm using a 6" inline exhaust fan, so I had to cut the top side vent to accommodate the fan.

I also bought a 400W HPS system using the Digital Greenhouse 400 Watt Electronic Ballast
. And for $30 bucks more I got the Euro Reflector:
http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=49541
$249 total including shipping

I've found that the CFL's are great for vegging, but not for flowering.

So hopefully having a larger grow area and a 400W HPS system, my two girls will fill up with big, fat tight buds!!!

Thanks again Caddy for sharing your grow!!

That's great to hear! I'm glad you're as pleased as I was with the tent. Just as tip depending on when and how big you veg/flower your plants the light hangers that come with it as I pointed will sag losing height for you in the tent. I went to Lowes and got a typical slotted adjustable shelving bracket for my new light mount.

The bracket I got was the slotted vertical bar you see in this photo ->

I got the 48" version, took metal snips and plyers to make little notches that would go around both sides of the tent frame up top. I then use my light hooks in those slots to hang my 1000w HPS. It slides back and forth perfectly and doesn't bend at all losing you precious height in the tent. Just thought I'd pass that along..

I went through quite a few rigged up scenarios but this one is solid as if it came with the tent. The picture update tonight or tomorrow will have a close up of this new bar for anyone else who wishes to see it. The light bracket sagging on the conventional tent setup is likely not going to be a problem for anyone who isn't using a Yieldmaster style hood which is glass enclosed.. they're exceptionally heavier than typical open air reflectors.

I'm already using that slotted bracket for my fan. I bought the double bracket that fits into the double slots and mounted my 6" fan to the bracket(removing the base of the fan) and now I'm able move my fan up & down with the lights. Of course I won't need that fan after getting the hood.
So thanks for this tip. I'll be buying two tomorrow for the new hood.

Caddy, can you post a detailed pic of the 48" slotted rail attached to the top outside rods of the tent?

Thanks!

How well does that tent hold light in ?
Very well. I'd be lying if I said there was no visible sign of light inside of the tent, but for what its worth, it holds the light in (and out) VERY well.

Caddy, I went over to my buddys house to get some help in notching this rail and he came up with bolting an "L" bracket under the rail, so when it's mounted on top of the tent rail/post, the "L" slides over the outside edge and the bolt butts up against the inside edge. Nice & clean!!

Caddy what is temp in ur tent?
How r u keeping ur rez cool?
I know its prolly all here man. Im moving soon. And trying to design the best possible grow room set-up I can concieve!
Im looking into a 6 inch blower -----> the water heater size tank carbon filter for stink.
What kinda odor measurements u have in place?
I was thinking about getting the biggest tent i could find cheaply.. but realize rez temps and especially room temps and heat from the lamps will wreek havoc on a grow..
Are u pumpimg ac into the tent?
Are u noticing any types of deficiencies in ur plants due to the multpile plants per tub?
Man i know its alot. Maybe its all here im not sure. If u get the time to check my post out and offer ur knowledge as well as first hand experience with the issues ive addressed id appreciate it.
Im sure u have something very intelligent and knowledgable to add and id greatly respect ur opinion in these matters.

Very good! Then you get the idea.. I just actually notched the bar itself, same general ideal though to have something hanging over both sides of the tent frame bars.

60/65F at night, 80F midday

The floor

No odor control in the flowering tent. Nothing smells at all when the tent is zipped even after 12 hours of lights on. Now, if you open that tent its a different story ;) But the way I have back pressure in the tent without cool outside air it just seems to come out of the light hood vent and just .. not smell.

No, just cool air from outside the tent.

Are u noticing any types of deficiencies in ur plants due to the multpile plants per tub?
None that I see.. Just a tangled mess inside the reservoir and net pots that slip through their openings. Those were first round pots and since i've gotten 3.75" pots with big nearly half inch lips on them.. That problem will not occur again in the next tubs.

I was wondering about odor and it's great to read that you're not smelling anything while the tent is zipped shut. Excellent!!!!

Due to time I had to skip last weeks update for the end of week 4. The clones initially went in around 1/15 so they just finished up week 3.

Here are some pictures showing the bigger plants in the back at end of week 5. They're fattening up nicely.. not as much as I'd hoped when picking these strains.. but definitely nice. I'm going to consider the clones the real batch since I learned a lot and nearly ran out of room on the previous mothers in the back.. they just vegged way too long before flower.
