Question is would a 400 watt hps put off to much heat for this small of an area with just an oscilating fan running constant and the door cracked? If a 400 watt would be ok, how about a 600 watt? the room is in the basement so its cooler than upstairs to begin with. thanks in advance....

You will have to test it out---you could built a cardboard insert with an intake-vent on the bottom and exhaust on the top to move cool air in and warm air out. The insert could be stored behind the door when it has to be closed if discretion is a problem. You could use small-low wattage fans for the intake/exit. Just an idea to get your brain juices going...

Thanks Doc, I will try it out and if its to hot I will consider the cardboard idea...thanks again....

hey doc whats a good treatment for root stunt? my plants looks like they're just stressed out and haven't seen any new growth with my roots. im also getting a lot of foam from mixing hydrozyme and dutch master zone. is this normal? the lime green on the new growth is that sulfur deficiency or they need more food. i have them at 500ppm since they look stress. thanks doc!!

-----Add 6.5ml/gallon of 35% H2O2 once a week to your res and that will take care of the problem. Don't use the hydrozyme for a couple of weeks while using the H2O2. Make sure to keep your res tank water 58 to 65 deg tops(add a chiller if nessesary).

Doc and Mr H, thank you for your time answering all of these questions and I have learned so much reading the past 30 or so pages. This is going to be a great reference thread! I posted about 2 weeks ago in the newbie section and still have no resolution.

This is what I have:
Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil
400 watt MH in a 6 inch cooling hood
Light is 20-22" above brim of pots
120 cfm inline fan and flexible ducting
3 other small fans
Elephant humidifier set at 80%
temps range with lights on from 82-87
when sleeping are around 65-70 F
water every 3-4 days with water that sits out for 48 hours with a fish tank bubbler going through it.
Was using Chlorine Out fish tank drops but have stopped. Tap water is high at 190 ppm's. Just bought 5 gal of distilled water from Wally World and has a PH of 6.4.
Measure with Moister meter and also lifting pots, water until a little draining comes from the tray
Nice PH Meter and water and soil right at 6.5-6.7
With the humidifier and no fans on I am right at 40-50%
With all fans on it drops below 30%
Full Mylar throughout whole closest
Just hit the two 3 weeks olds with 175 ppm of FF Grow Big
I think that covers the basics.
The two plants in the white pots on the left are my oldest and are right at 3 weeks from when they sprouted. The middle one and closest one on the right is about 10 days from when they sprouted. The one in the back right is only a week old.
The oldest two seem very small compared to what many others look like at 22 days. They do have about 4 sets of leaves but are very small. The smallest first leaves dried out and fell off the one and the other seems to be doing the same. My others that are 10 days old also seem to be small their age. I have the correct size light for a 3x2x7 room. I am using good soil, have fans, good water, correct Ph, good seeds, and have read the entire FAQ section 3 times!! I know that my temps are high for no C02 but where else am I screwing up? Take a look at the pics and I appreciate any inout. I am just getting really frustrated with this whole thing...

2 pics of each one. First 2 are front left, 2nd 2 are back left, 3 2 are brown middle pot, 4th 2 are front right and ;ast 2 are back right (oldest to youngest)

Thanks for the question----1.You need to get those temps down below 80 deg as you already stated about the heat. 2. It's hard to control the moisture in big pot with seedlings-I always recommend starting in small pots or cups--even with the extra heat which is harming your seedlings the soil cannot dry-out fast enough and so the plants are getting too much water and not enough oxygen(the small growth and sagging leafs). 3. That light is fine but needs to be raised 2 more feet(The massive amount of radiant light coupled with the heat stress is harming your plants as well. If it was me I would put a couple 40watt 6500k floros in there and shut of the HID for a month. This would take care of your heat and lighting. As far as the soil--I would try the lighting first then see if things don't improve---Make sure that the soil dries out a little and the pots feel lite--stick your index finger into the soil--It should be dry to about 3" deep-don't water until then. Worst case scenario is that you will have to add h202 which is good and bad---good in the fact that it would help with the over-watering----bad in the fact that it would kill all your good beneficials--BUT--you could re-inoculate latter with zero problems. Change the temp and heat first--And don't add any nutes just make sure to keep bubbling your tap water for 24hours before use. This should take care of your problems...-----I have a question for you---I looked at all the pics and I haven't used FFOF soil in a while but are you sure that's FFOF soil???--looks different than I remember.

no offense, but who tha fuck is this guy? And why does he know so much about pot?
Is that question for me? or him?:-o

I don't know everything but have experienced a lot in my 25 years of growing. I'm a medical patient/caregiver/ and friend to many and love to share information that helps others. I've had failures and successes with growing just like everyone else. I love helping people.

:-o

Thanks! It is the teal FF soil bag so I am pretty sure it is OF. I will bring my light up 2 feet if you think that they will still get enough light, which they probably will with the mylar. Should I start in smaller pots with a CFL next time around? I also got distilled water from wally world today with a perfect PH and a whopping total of 1 ppm. I am going to use that for now on. I will bring the lights up and start looking for a couple cfl or t5 tubes. How many should i go with for about 6 plants? I am going to use a 600 watt hps on the flower side. thanks again

Don't worry about T5's or anything like that--Just get some inexpensive floros --Get a cheap 2#tube floro from wallyworld. Plants don't need that much light in the first weeks of seedling/vegetative growth--I just want to get your plants healthy first.
