looks burned to me- I could be wrong but we could give a better answer if you give us some details on your soil and nutrients

Canna nutes in rockwool and clay pebbles - it seemed to start after being in the same nute mix for about a week and a half - it was dumped after 2 weeks and the nute mix increased to EC 1.2 or about 600ppm as per the bottle.

2 Days before it started happening cheap CO2 was added delivered under the leaves with straws from a big bottle dunno if that could have any bearing?

Also the leaves had been curling up along the sides for some time before this, that with the yellow tips made me think it could be mag. def.

thanks for the help

Hi thanks

PH is about 5.6

So its a defo nute burn then? What is the solution, flush with plain Ph'd water for a few days then half the nute strength?

Firstly, I'm not a hydro grower, I'm a soil grower.

Secondly, that does look like Mg deficiency - it's quite mild though from the looks of it. I don't really understand why you're getting deficiencies in hydro unless your ph is simply too low for the amount of Mg the plant needs. I think I'd raise the ph to about 6.4, 6.5 for a week at least and see if the plant starts to improve. If it doesn't, you may have to foliar feed a Magnesium sulphate solution (Epsom salts).

It doesn't look like burn to me, your third picture clearly shows the plants leaves paling between the veins - that's not a symptom of over-fertilsation and in anycase that EC is not high enough to burn the plant in my opinion.

Hi Babygro

I have been folilar feeding for a few days with epsom salts, half a teaspoon/ 2 pints. I read the advice of putting 1 teaspoon/gallon in the res but when I ppm'ed the mix I have been folilar feeiding it gave a PPM of 1900 and I thought that can't be healthy for them.

On the canna information it says ph between 5.2 & 6.2 so I could lift it up some - would you recommend raising it higher than their recommendation?

Also, don't know if it could help to cause this but I don't have the exhaust fan system together yet so there aren't many air changes although there is a oscillating fan blowing around, an aircon keeping it all cool and co2 from sugar, water and yeast

Thanks again for the advice

you're best bet is to go to the hydro shop and get a quart of cal/mag. you are beginning to have a calcium deficiency in addition to the mg deff. don't let your ph get too high...

btw, is your nute mix formulated for hardwater? what kind of water are you using?

Thanks

Nute mix is soft water, my water is soft water - ppm 90 - 140 ph around 7

what are the signs of calcium def. please?

I'm more than happy to defer to Kindprincess one this one as I said, I'm not a hydro grower and don't want to give people inncorect advice.

I've got a lot of experience of Mg problems in soil, but I don't know if it works the same way in hydro - if it does then kp's advice to check your Canna nutrients for hard and soft water versions is good.

What's the EC of your plain tapwater? If it's high (up to .6, .8 EC) then that could be the source of your problems.

Please follow kp's advice on the correct ph.

Canna substra - not sure if e.c was quite 1.2 but I know PPM was around 600
Canna Substra does come in two versions - one for Soft and one for Hard water. Do you know which one you have and the EC of your tapwater (or the water you use to water your plants/res)?

The ppm of my plain water is between 90 and 140 depending on which day it is. I think that works out around 0.2 EC

So as far as I know I have the right canna with soft water.

Thanks again

I had another watch of Jorges how to grow DVD last night and he showed a plant that looked a little like those pics I've shown and said it was due to the grow room being too hot, anyone think this is a possibility?

just looks like early nute burn if you think its mg def, in your soil piss on it lol
