Drawing serious power

Does drawing a huge amount of electricity put you hobby under the spot light (if you know what I mean!!)?

Yes, if you use enough they will investigate, but that would be at least four or five thousand watts possibly more depending on how much you already use and the size of the property.:peace:

It's generally accepted that in the US, even if they can check your power consumption, you'll have to fuck up in some other way for them to get a warrant. Raise suspicion? Maybe. Get you busted? Not by itself. BTW, 1-2 1000w lights won't be a problem in most situations.

1 660 w light on for 12 hours will draw the equivalent to what most power suppliers consider as the average usage of one house hold !!

What if the meter has been by passed !!?? Can that be picked up ?
i have to say i generally dissagree. You can safely put a 1000 watt light for every bedroom in your home(i have never heard of anyone i know or know of getting busted this way unless they had a big mouth.the power company busts people for mainly 2 reasons...1:stealing power(a real no no)2:not paying your bill ontime on a regular basis.the power company makes money, they want more power to be drawn. For huge grow,i would be scared, but if i lived in a 3 bedroom house i would use 3000 watts.I would use the bbq a lot more, get a propane powered hot water heater(or adapt yours to suit propane)cfl lights, turning lights off when not in use etc...dont tell a soul(not even your best friend)pay your bill every month.

i dont know where some of you are getting your info from.Where i live the kilowatt hour rate is 6 cents.that means you pay 6 cents for every hour u use 1000 watts for.so a 1000 watt light on for 12 hours a day is .06 times 12(hours in a day)that is 62 cents a day,now multiply 28 days for a month by that number which is $17.36 a month, add 200 more watts for fans etc, thats about 22 bucks a month.thats a real beacon for the power company to catch you!!!!!im single, and without a grow show going i use about 65-110 bucks a month for hydro.i could probably run a 3000 watt grow show for about $60 a month, maybe a bit more because the kilowatt hour rate fluctuates from around 5.5 cents to 6.8 cents.what im saying is right, math does'nt lie!!a lot of people i know spend on average under 30 bucks a month for 1000 watts.

I think you need to scale back your ideas by a fair bit.

Maybe add a bit more after a few months or a year.:peace:
