Yes that is a very good deal, i checked Ebay and couldnt see a cheaper deal (buying seperate or as a set).

Not only that htg have a good rep and knowing that you wont get ripped of is priceless, i wouldnt want to risk $250.

Im guessing you have a MH bulb as if you are going to get such a good ballast you may aswell have a MH bulb for the veg

Hey man. No I actually intended on buying the cooltube / and mH bulb that they offer when you buy.

with the cool tube and MH bulb the total comes to about 287.

yeah, I purchased the EXACT same thing earlier this week from HTGsupply...I just got mine off their Ebay auction. Seems like a great deal to me.

When you receive it, please let me know how it looks/works.

Im not worried about the price tag (because its obviously a good pricE) im just worried about the quality of the thing.

A friend keeps pushing me toward hydrofarm but I dont have 500$ for a complete light setup and I think its bullshit they make you buy everything seperately.

get the better 'non-house' bulb. Get an extra bulb too !!! ( a lot seem to fail quickly from HTG, and the 600w is tough to find at a store)

Hey. It says the "stock" bulb is rated @ 95,000 lumens, and comparable to the hortilux. Think they're pullin our chains??

just heard a bunch of bad bulbs from them. get a good quality grow bulb upgrade and get a second. shipping can jar the bulb and cause failures. they will make good on the bulb, but it will be a few days out.

(I just changed the bulbs in my living room fan. they lasted a week or less. these things happen.)

this is the first negative rep ive seen of HTG.....as ive never ordered from HTG i suggest taking the advice of someone who has GL.

I ordered all my stuff from ebay and its been fine so just some perspective

PS im in the UK not America

I would not get the halide bulb though, you don't need it, you would be better off getting a couple hps bulbs and yes everyone will tell you HPS can veg just fine.
I don't know about the quality of their generic bulbs, but I always use generic bulbs and the ones I use have worked out fine and been reliable etc.

Yes im sure you can veg 'just fine' but if you are going to splash out on a digital ballast designed for MH and HPS then you may aswell use it.

A MH bulb gives more of the blue spectrum of light which is used during veg compared to a HPS which gives more of the red spectrum which is used for flowering.

Basically it will make your veg stage more efficient thus more bud in the end.

Ive been looking at some of the other threads by Bterz and it appears he has a decent budget and is going for a scrog so a MH is gonna be infinitely better.

This is ofc all from the info ive gathered from RIU grow guide and forums....not from xp so feel free to call bullshit on me.

I think it works a bit like this.

Mairjuana needs an ambient tempratute of roughly 70F-80F (Not sure exactly which). It also needs fresh air at both dark and light periods for maximum photosynthesis.

So a good airlflow is needed as well as controlled temps. You also need a fresh air supply so the air can keep being refreshed ie an inline fan sucking air in or blowing our. Having both is optimal i believe.

All a cooltube does it suck air past the bulb in an enclosed case to keep the temps from the bulb lower and therefore you can get the light closer to the plant without burning it.

This is often used for enclosed spaces since its harder to keep ambient temps down.

Basically if your growing in a garage then keeping low temps wont be much of a problem. But if your growing in a grow tent then yes it gets hot as fuck.

Your 'box' sounds like an enclosed space so a cooltube (if you can fit all the ventilation) would be well worth the money spent.

Again this advice is just from my own research not xp so i could be completely wrong.

Hope i helped tho

EDIT: Reading what i just said it would make sense for all growers to want a cooltube as the closer the lights are the more light that can reach bottom buds.

Conventional wisdom says halide for veg yes. I guess yes if you are blowing money on a dual ballast might as well use it but honestly I haven't seen any less growth using hps in veg but then again I just throw more light and don't give a rip about the power bill.

I'm the cheap kind of guy who would never buy a digital or dual purpose ballast to begin with. I would take that kind of cash and get a couple 600w mag ballast dedicated hps's ($120 or so ea) and DIY cooltube them and grow the fuck out of that scrog. Screw halide, if you throw 1200w of hps on that thing it's going to grow, like mad...

(of course you'll have more heat and power bill will be higher, but for the money and end result that would be my choice.)

But many people aren't DIY people and also if you have high energy costs...

Anyway my point is I always put the money into flower power (so to speak) Yes halide would be the most efficient for veg, if efficiency is more important that yield.

I should have explained that more, forgot to mention anything about getting more hps light.
