Your extraction should generate some negative pressure if you want to avoid smells.

Smells got me busted by a grumpy next door neighbor. When I grow again, I will take it a lot more seriously.

I double filter. I grow in tents, but I think the theory would hold up in other spaces as well.
I have a 4" carbon filter inside the tent before the 4" inline fan, a 4" to 6" duct adapter, then a 6" carbon filter at the end of the ducting run where it's released into the environment. Zero odor except carbon smell.
I always get a filter rated for more than what a fan can do, it gives the air a better chance to be cleaned.
I think I read before about negative ion generators affecting plants somehow, not really sure. I guess that would only matter if your intake was recirculating the treated air.
You absolutely need negative pressure, air being pulled out a little faster than it can come into the space.

Oversize the filter and extract to a room or extraction box that also has another stationary carbon filter. When I ran HID's and had a hard time running a sealed room I often ran two filters in the tent, one stationary in the bottom and one in the top for exhaust. The exhaust fan later going to an enclosed box with another filter and exhaust fan going outside.
You can do filter--->exhaust fan going to a sealed box with another filter endlessly to remove any possible smell. I've used small tents for this purpose and you can do as many steps til you feel safe with the smell and extraction outside. I've grown in apartments in illegal states for years like this and never been caught or had any neighbours complaining about smell.
The police regulary parked under my exhaust window living in a Capital city.

If hes getting smells from the room theres some type of escape, ozone is gasmask toxic... That type of setup needs to be very carefully planned out.

They can be extremely harmful to us and pets in the home so best with 4L Ona gel tub with a fan for the rest of the house, works great.

Grab a large mountain air filter. Best I’ve used and no smell is coming out of my drying tent with 4 large plants drying.
For added peace of mind I stick a large tub of Ona gel at the exhaust to soak up any smells that might escape

I haven't seen many talk about plumbing the exhaust ducting to the chimney chase in a basement. The very same one that the hot water heater and furnace are routed to. Hot air rises and as a result puts the potential remnant of odor up up and away to diffuse and dissipate.
But I'd certainly advocate for a traditional carbon filter or even an inline one

An that was back when you got locked for a few plants. Now here nobody cares about a few plants I exhaust my 5x10 flower straight out the wall now no filters.

I use to run a carbon filter. Just one, and it didn’t eliminate smells completely. In peak flower you could definitely smell it inside and outside the house. Not crazy loud, but present. It was an oversized filter, but I think like others suggested you really need to double up if smell is a show stopper for you.
Now I dont run a carbon filter and I purposely try to stink the neighborhood up. Always puts a smile on my face when I can smell it from down the street.

I could always smell it a little if i walked near where it exhausted. The one thing that sorted it for me was upgrading to a 60mm carbon bed over the standard 50mm. I think you can get 75mm too.
