If you were to do the water only with top dress every 3 weeks or so, what base soil would start with? would you either buy in a pre made bag or mix your own? I have like 7 or so items in my Amazon cart for this purpose.

Think I have

Worm castings
Bat guano
Seabird guano
Kelp
Bone meal
Blood meal
White azomite

U can use those and mix with hp promix, and some compost. I build my soil using the build a soil recipe. I did the #1. Doesn’t have to be the exact recipe but use what u already have available

Nope would not of been referencing my post. I mentioned nothing about cal- mag. I run a 5 x 5. Know nothing about vivosun leds. And don’t use 3 gallon bags and I belive 1.3 gallons of water in a 3 gallon pot every 3 days is a little excessive. Maybe in a 5 gallon pot. Unless it's a monster.

This is for the OP. I strongly recommend that you do a search here in RIU. The topic to put into the search is. Hey Dummy grow a plant. The author is @Budzbuddha. This guy is a wealth of knowledge and very open to helping others. He has helped me immensely. I started out with using bottles (synthetic) feed. All the measuring feeds, checking ph of what is going in, checking what the levels are in run off. Dealing with lock outs. Ph up, ph down. I am not going to try to tell you what is the best method to grow by, that you have to determine what is best for you.
With that said, if you (and I'm sure you will) have questions. Please understand, when you ask him for help, you need to give him all the information you possibly can. Lighting, feed, medium your using, lighting schedule, pot size, age of plant if your actively growing. Anything you can think of will help. If you follow his methods you will have success. But just for starters, do the search I told you about, and read that thread. I have been a member here for a few years and trust me, this cat knows growing. Many will on this site will tell you the same thing. I truly hope this helps you out. GL

Yes I was asking how do you not have a problem bc you wrote you were using ffof. I assumed you were using ff trio nutes as well which is why I asked how do you not have issue leaving pot in run off since the bottom no doubt has salt build up. But if you don't use ff trio then nvrmnd.

Hope this clears up whatever you guys were talking about..

I get confused about compost... is this an absolute necessity? Is there a substitute for compost? I am already in deep and the less things I get into the better....

Yes, compost is like the basis if the soil life. That will be full of broken down organic matter full of beneficial bacteria and fungi and other goodies. You only need about 20% of compost of total mix. Probably a cheaper idea sourcing locally

After about 12 runs of ffof I am going to switch over to pro mix. Give it one shot and determine if that is a better alternative.
i built my soil with promix and it’s really good. Im on like my 7th cycle. Not really no till since I reammend sometimes but its good for creating living soil from scratch ~30% compost, 70% promix, then mix in the following

That is a valuable place to start. Not really sure but looking to run a 321 during seed/veg then finish up with Jack's bloom. In switching to pro mix I'm looking for better drainage to cycle feed only.
