TRUMP CONVICTED

This article seems to be sympathetic to Judge Cannon but is also highlighting stress inside her court after she was assigned the Mar a Lago documents case. It went from “My clerkship with Judge Cannon was an invaluable learning experience,” to "[G]enerally, she treats clerks (and the entire chambers staff) very poorly and tends to get angry to the point of screaming at them and talking to them in condescending ways. I know her courtroom deputy quit less than two years into the job.4

https://davidlat.substack.com/p/clerking-for-judge-aileen-cannon-why-clerks-quit

So now the Cannon chambers is fully staffed. But it’s premature to declare that everything is hunky-dory. Note these facts, against the backdrop of Judge Cannon having one of the most high-profile, politically charged, complex cases in the country:

  • Three out of her four clerks have been with Judge Cannon for six months or less.
  • Only one of the current clerks, the clerk who started in August 2023, is there according to plan.
  • None of these clerks was in chambers in June 2023, when the Trump documents case arrived, i.e., they’ve all had to play catchup.
All the unexpected departures and arrivals of the past six months have surely contributed to the backlog and delays in the case. I also wonder whether all four clerks have the security clearances they need to work on the Trump case. All in all, it’s not a great situation.

My own take on the chaos that seems to be going on in her courtroom is -- this is what happens when people try to justify bad policy. Cannon has no legal leg to stand on. The documents case is open and shut. What Cannon is doing is stalling while she endlessly searches for a legal precedent or ruling or point of law that saves Trump's ass. She has her clerks working 100 hour work weeks chasing chimeras. I'd quit too. I've pulled hours like that. They are soul crushing. Meanwhile, Judge Cannon is gone most of that time, after all, she has a life outside of work.
Espc when you figure who (worth the effort they put into attaining their education) is going to want to have her as your reference or list her in your job history that wants a career outside of the MAGA/nazi circles.

oh the stock is just a tumbling down......

The stock value for Donald Trump's media company dropped to its lowest since going public, stripping away nearly $2 billion from the former president's share, according to multiple reports.

Shares for Trump Media were as high as $79.38 on March 26 when trading began, but this Friday shares plunges to $41.90, a drop of around 47 percent.

The drop also took Trump’s personal stake in the company from $4.9 billion to about $3.3 billion, CNN reported.

The fluctuation in share prices is causing analysts to speculate that the company is massively overvalued by Wall Street.

“I mean, it’s ridiculous,” billionaire chairman of Expedia Barry Diller said on CNBC. “The company has no revenue.”

In a statement to CNN, a spokesperson for Trump Media slammed the company's critics.

“It is unsurprising to see die-hard Trump haters and leftwing flacks blow a gasket now that Truth Social has become a public company that, still today, refuses to suppress political expression that contradicts the narratives they want to enforce,” spokesperson Shannon Devine said.

According to The New York Times, challenges for the company, which owns Trump's Truth Social platform, started "during the company’s efforts to complete a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, to help take it public. That process involved a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation, an $18 million penalty and a lawsuit involving two early founders of the social media company that made its way to Delaware Chancery Court."

The Times went on to say that Trump Media looks a lot like a "meme stock" -- shares of companies whose investors may be influenced by social media behavior -- which is volatile by nature, according to experts.

"Mr. Trump, however, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, may have larger worries on his mind. He recently had to post bonds in two separate cases, amounting to well over $200 million," The Times' report stated.

who ever invested right now, is losing they're shirt...........tumble tumble tumble........

I feel as bad for those folks as I do for the people that got stuck with a garage full of hand sanitizer during the pandemic, or the people that ended up in prison for Jan 6. There is only so many fucks to give, and I’m not wasting them on people losing money by trying to get in on a scam.

Trump Media stock continues downward slide, falling 10 percent at start of trading week
Shares in Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of former President Trump’s Truth Social platform, continued to fall at the start of the trading week Monday, dipping another 10 percent.

Trump Media’s shares were hovering around $36 as of Monday morning, after closing at about $40 Friday. The latest numbers mark a steep fall for the Truth Social parent, whose shares initially climbed above $79 after going public nearly two weeks ago.

The company’s steady downward slide began last Monday, after it reported a $58 million loss in 2023. While Trump Media generated about $4.1 million in revenue last year, it spent roughly $16 million on operating expenses and $39.4 million on interest expenses, according to regulatory filings.

The Truth Social parent also noted that it “expects to continue to incur operating losses and negative cash flows from operating activities for the foreseeable future” and that “it is premature for [Trump Media] to predict when it will attain profitability and positive cash flows from its operations.”

However, Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes argued Sunday that the company is “well positioned” to turn profitable.

“Even if you take the ridiculous cost that it took us to get to this point, we are well positioned,” Nunes told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“Why are we well positioned?” he continued. “Because we have no debt. We’re coming out of this with no debt, a platform that works really, really well that communicates to millions of people, and then we have $200 million in the bank.”

Financial information on Trump Media’s first quarter performance is not yet available. The company received an influx of $300 million after merging with the blank check company Digital World Acquisition Corp. in order to go public.

Trump, who owns about 58 percent of Trump Media, also touted the platform as “very solid” last week.

“All of the competitors to TRUTH SOCIAL, especially those in the Radical Left Democrats Party who are failing at every level, like to use their vaunted ‘disinformation machine’ to try and convince people, and it is not easy to do, that TRUTH is not such a big deal and doesn’t ‘get the word out’ as well as various others, which they know to be false,” the former president said in a post on the website.

Trump to Sue Hush-Money Judge in Last-Ditch Attempt to Delay Trial

Donald Trump appears set to file a lawsuit against Judge Juan Merchan, the judge overseeing his trial for alleged falsification of business records in order to cover up his affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

The move, which comes one week before the trial is set to start, is a last-minute attempt to delay the trial or even see it thrown out, sources with knowledge of the matter told The New York Times Monday.

Trump’s lawyers plan to file an appeals action contesting the gag order that Judge Merchan recently placed on the former president, two people with knowledge of the issue told the Times. The gag order prevents Trump from assailing court staff, prosecutors, the judge, and their family members.

Why aren't courts using sanctions against Trump and his lawyers to stop them from making frivolous claims that have no merit and are obvioiusly intended to delay trial?

Trump and his legal team just sets it up and courts knock them down.

The suit is a long-shot effort that’s unlikely to succeed, the Times reported, and an appeals court could shoot it down quickly, before the trial’s scheduled start date on April 15.

Nobody considers his action serious from a legal argument POV. This is the only case that will make it to trial this year. Delaying tactics have done serious harm in that they are preventing the voting public of the US from seeing evidence in important cases brought against Trump before elections. Which is why I don't understand why he's been able to get away with it. He's not claiming he's innocent, he's just gaming the system. It's time to stop the games. If not now, maybe never if he wins.

On the bright side, a light now shines on what has been a dark corner.

Everybody can see what he's doing. Everybody can see how harmful what he's doing is. Everybody can see how this kind of legal sideshow corrupts our system (looking at Judge Cannon). These kinds of delay tactics are exactly why state and local governments look the other way when wealthy malefactors break laws. These tactics are why we need to allocate billions of dollars more to the IRS to collect taxes were not paid due to fraudulent tax filings. These tactics are why a rich man can openly murder somebody and not face the same penalties an average person does. I hope to see Democrats put plans in place to revamp our legal system to stop these shenanigans the moment they hold the power to enact them. Trump's not the only criminal made famous for delaying tactics. Other politicians, wealthy businessmen and crime bosses have employed these tactics. It's time to put teeth into sanctions against frivolous and expensive delay tactics. Put your representatives on notice that you want real legal reform. It's clear that we need this in order to protect our democratic system.

Then can we at least agree that it sucks that the bad actors are the one vacuuming up all the profit off the stupid Americans (not in on the con), that they can then turn around and use in their attack on our nation?

I would not mind at all (well, just a little) if Trump sucked up their money and just faded off in the distance. As long as he left the country alone (it is time for him to skip the country, isn't it?) it can start getting back to normal.

Then I woke up.

I failed to consider your post when answering Canon. My remark is specific to hoarders early in the pandemic.

The Americans who were and still are being fleeced by propagandists foreign and domestic do have my sympathy. It sucks that many of them simply do not know better or are trapped in delusions that are a mix of self-reinforcing sand reinforced by the sophisticated propaganda disseminators you mention. I thus amend my earlier position, which in the broader context would be unkind.

Many of these folks are victims of a one-two punch. Our schools have been systematically disabled from teaching critical thought and discipline. Our media have been permitted to build an entire structure providing a highly-developed alternative (dishonest) narrative to suborn those who are now the maga etc. faithful. They do have my sympathy. My ire is directed at those who engineered this one-two punch.

Right now I am seeing neoliberal malice behind every figurative tree. But it sure seems to me that we are watching the neoliberal agenda being effectively and efficiently advanced, with the dupes acting as a host organism.

Appeals court rejects Trump’s bid to delay hush money trial over Manhattan venue
A New York appeals court on Monday denied Trump’s bid to put his hush money trial on pause while he argues that the case should be tried outside of Manhattan.

The decision followed arguments at an emergency hearing Monday where Trump’s lawyers contended that deep blue Manhattan is not an appropriate venue for the controversial Republican president’s criminal case to be heard. Justice Lizbeth González heard the arguments.

Instead, the former president’s lawyers suggested the trial take place in Staten Island – the only New York City borough Trump won in 2016 and 2020.

In the meantime, Trump’s trial – scheduled to begin with jury selection on April 15 – should be paused, the lawyers argued. It’s slated to be his first criminal trial and the first criminal trial of any former U.S. president.

Trump’s lawyers asked González to issue an emergency stay, which would have postponed the trial indefinitely. She declined to do so.

The hush money trial has already faced delays due to a last-minute document dump; it was originally scheduled to begin on March 25.

Lawyers with the Manhattan district attorney’s office pointed to Judge Juan Merchan’s previous ruling that Trump’s motion to change venues was untimely. They also blamed Trump for any pretrial prejudice for making “countless media appearances talking about the facts of this case, the witnesses, and so on,” according to the Associated Press.

Trump’s lawyers are expected to return to the New York appeals court at a later date for arguments over their last-ditch effort to pause the trial while they appeal a gag order imposed by the trial judge.

Merchan barred Trump from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, court staff and the judge’s family, but did not preclude him from hurling insults at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) or the judge himself.

The gag order originally did not include the family members of Bragg and Merchan, but the judge expanded it after Trump assailed his daughter, Loren, who works for a progressive political consulting firm. The firm, Authentic, boasts clients including prominent Democrats President Biden, Vice President Harris and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y).

Loren Merchan’s work also forms the basis for an effort by Trump to recuse Merchan from the case. The former president claims Merchan’s daughter has a “direct financial interest” in his case because of her work for his political opponents.

The filings relating to both the gag order and the venue change are under seal and not accessible to the public at this time.

Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment his ex-fixer made to a porn star to cover up an alleged affair ahead of the 2016 election. He has pleaded not guilty.

It's always frustrating when shit people benefit from participating in situations like this, and knowing that the money made is likely to fund more attacks against a fair and just society makes it that much more frustrating.

I feel for the MAGA disciples that wrecked their eyesight today, thinking that just using the safety squints would let them watch the eclipse.

That didn't take long. Maybe the DOJ should consider outsourcing the prosecution of Trump to NY.
naw it didn't at all, and i would think the gag order part is gonna be quick as well. Meanwhile Judge Mechan as already sent out jury questionaires as well........

come to think of it Maybe the DOJ should, especially with the case with Cannon...

Trump lawyers seek Stormy Daniels communications with Michael Cohen
Former President Trump’s legal team on Monday asked the judge in his hush money case to subpoena adult film actress Stormy Daniels’ communications with Michael Cohen, the former president’s ex-fixer, other witnesses and any material related to NBC’s documentary on the actress.

In a letter to Justice Juan Merchan, Trump’s attorneys asked the judge to enforce a subpoena for the communications Daniels — whose real name is Stephanie Clifford — had with Cohen and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who are both expected to testify in the hush money trial starting later this month.

Trump attorney Todd Blanche argued Daniels’ communications with these witnesses or confirmation the communications were deleted would suggest the witnesses “communicated in order to coordinate their false testimony.”

“Communications between Clifford [Daniels] and other women who have sought to monetize sexual assault claims against President Trump are probative of Clifford’s motive and intent to do the same through false trial testimony,” Blanche wrote.

Trump is also seeking Daniels’ communications with advice columnist E. Jean Carroll — who brought a defamation case against Trump last year — along with Jessica Leeds and Natasha Stoynoff, who both testified in Carroll’s civil rape trial against the former president.

Pointing to comedian Kathy Griffin’s recent statements that she has text communications with Daniels and Carroll on a “daily basis,” Trump’s legal team argued Trump is also entitled to this evidence.

Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment Cohen made to Daniels to cover up an alleged affair ahead of the 2016 election. He has pleaded not guilty.

Jury selection for the trial is slated to begin April 15 and an appeals court on Monday rejected Trump’s latest bid to further delay it and have it tried outside of Manhattan.

Trump is also looking for Merchan to enforce a subpoena on Daniels’ communications regarding the premiere, production, marketing and compensation for NBC’s “Stormy” documentary.

The request comes just days after Merchan blocked the former president’s attempt to gain access to NBC’s documentary material relating to the film actress.

Merchan said the Trump lawyer’s subpoena was “far too broad” and did not meet the legal standard to compel NBC Universal to turn over documents and other items related to the documentary “Stormy.”

Sure as hell makes a mockery of "And Justice for All" doesn't it,from the seemingly compliant Supreme Court(W/C Thomas as a sitting justice while his wife was a major actress in the Jan 6 communications yet refuses to recluse himself) and it's highly questionable timeline for acting and dismissal of spec. pros. Smith's petitions to Judge Cannon's nose buried in Trump's anus, openly angling for a Supreme Court seat herself if the madman's sorry ass ends up stinking up the oval office again, turning the GA. case into a sexual innuendo of the Prosecutions off hours "pillow talk".......has/is another in a long list of atrocities Trump has laid on our Nation, this guy has sowed so many bitter seeds we need a mass application of Round-up.

Orange dumbo has a lot on his table this month...:

April 15th the criminal trail....

April 22nd Eragorn trail about the $175mil bond (IMO i personally think it's gonna get thrown out, on grounds, the company is from NY, and they don't have the money to cover $500mil) if that happens, and i'm using "if" that mean AG of NY can start taking his properties....we'll see

April 25th is the SCOTUS oral arguments on the orange dumbo immunity claim (this should be interesting imv)

the latest amicus briefs are here:

the latest filed was from a bunch of 4 star generals basically saying to the courts he shouldn't have immunity

and also here is a little right up opinion pieace from Mullershewrote (you can find her on X, and she's pretty good)
