Correction: they lowered it one level in Jan, now raised it again to 'likely'. Travel advice to France is now yellow..., which is very rare for us. I was going to go back this year after being so pleasantly surprised with France last summer, perhaps even during Olympics.

i figure it would rise during the Olympics, i have a feeling there will be a major push to watch intel and other stuff when it's going on......

Russia at one point tried to use immigration as a tool in the baltic states or northern countries, prolly why they closed they're borders.....

also i trying to figure out the relationship between Russia and ISIS, since on the propaganda arm they said they have good relations with ISIS....that made me think and look back, didn't Russia host Hamas Delegation and Islamic Jihad not to long ago????

Yeah, I think Belarus is sanctioned,but that pales as punishment for allowing a unjust invasion against a sovereign state to be staged from Belarussian territory,Belarus is the kind of post-Soviet lap dog that Putin would like Ukraine to be.Though I'm pretty sure the "people" of Belarus like Ukrainians and generally don't support Putin's "Special Op."

On March 29, 1973, fifty-one years ago, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was disbanded and the last U.S. combat troops departed the Republic of Vietnam. The last unit was elements of MACV's Infantry Security Force (Special Guard), actually special couriers.

On March 29, 2012, President Barack Obama proclaimed March 29, 2012, as Vietnam Veterans Day. The proclamation called "upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the 58,220 U.S. brothers in arms that perished in the Vietnam War.

House Intel chair says Ukraine aid will have ‘overwhelming support’ in Congress after recess
House Intelligence Chair Mike Turner (R-Ohio) on Sunday predicted additional funding for Ukraine will have “overwhelming support” in Congress, as sharp divisions amid lawmakers have left aid for the nation in limbo.

Turner, during an interview with CBS News’s “Face The Nation,” said Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has “made clear” he supports Ukraine and indicated it would be a priority when Congress returns from its holiday recess.

“The Speaker has made very clear statements that when we get back, it’s the next top agenda, after having just passed all the bills that fund the federal government,” Turner said Sunday. “I believe this is going to have overwhelming support in Congress, and we’ll put a bill on the president’s desk.”

CBS News correspondent Ed O’Keefe then pressed Turner on whether the bill will have strong support from GOP members, or if it will require adding a loan payment plan or border security provisions.

“I think there already is significant and very strong support among Republicans and certainly across Americans, across the country,” he said.

Questions remain over how Johnson will handle the prickly subject of aid to Ukraine after he refused last month to consider a Senate-passed foreign aid package that would have included $60 billion for Ukraine. He pointed to the legislation’s lack of border security measures and floated giving aid to Ukraine in the form of a loan.

Turner said he thinks there will be discussions in both chambers about border security provisions and how the nonmilitary humanitarian aid is structured, but they will end with a negotiated package at the end of the process.

Asked if this will happen before Congress takes its next week-long break later this month, Turner said it is “certainly my hope.”

Apnews doesn't seem to address what's really going on. The same shit as in (the rest of) Europe. Erdogan now has a choice for the next years while he is still president: please the left, or please the ultra right conservative YRP. There's little doubt it'll be the latter, and far less likely the progressives.

YRP is anti-vax, among other typical nutjobbery, and major anti-Israel. Erdogan, despite being Erdogan, and because of the ongoing economic problems and insane inflation, still appreciates the economic relationship with Israel. The hate for Israel is also why many conservatives, especially more rural (which is everything except capital, and Istanbul and south-west coast), voted not-Erdogan.

Typical thing to say for the large Turkish community in NL who can vote progressive here yet fully support Erdogan (and still have voting rights) is that we (white europeans) just don't understand Turkey: they need a strong leader like Erdogan to keep the extremes at bay. They suggest without Erdogan, it's most of progressive Istanbul (city with third of population) vs the rural Islamists who rather see Turkey not become like EU or even an EU member but go back to more conservative ways... pre-Ataturk.

When the war started Ukraine was clearly the underdog, or at least perceived as such. I think it's been a major mistake to not allow Ukraine to use western supplied weapons to attack Russia. They're gifted to Ukraine to defend themselves, which is what they do with attacks like this. Aside from Russia's threats, which they dish out regardless, there doesn't seem to be a good reason. "We don't want to get dragged into this war" they said... well hello, you're in it regardless.

As I said last autumn, 'next spring' is overly optimistic:

UA drone innovations are surprising me, now they have a 1000 to 1400k range, now they can hit past the caucauses, and maybe hit a few more air bases in the area as well.......still say they should hit Belarus, just for good measure....

On the F16's i was think late spring early summer.......seems they have a portion ready and stationed in Romania now...if i'm reading right.....
