Hear me now, and believe me later.. I was in the car biz for 32 years. Last stint was with Ford. This "chip shortage" was created. The big 3, along with others got together after years of bloodshed, cutting each others throat going into HoldBack (the number below invoice AKA Triple Net).... Everybody was selling F250's in the $90K range only to make a few hundred dollars per unit due to competition. Ford has a 30 mile radius rule, and even so, you can still get shopped... especially online. This was a great opportunity for them to immediately "correct" the market on both new and used. I still work for Ford in the Media sector, and see the crazy profits being made right now. .... more than pre "chip shortage". They were/are making so much money that they had to restructure the salesperson pay plan because they were selling 13 cars a month, and making $18,000 a month as a sales person. I see the numbers every week, and if you think it's safe to buy a car or truck or SUV right now... you're sadly mistaken.i
Something to keep in mind...

Hard to use the argument that there were less vehicle sales when there was a massive shortage of vehicles to sell.
