Choc mint OG dont look happy please help

Hey people,

Firstly, thank you to thoes who help and support others I have learned alot from your posts! Hopefully I can contribute one day and pass the knowledge on.

I have some plants which do not look happy and I'm struggling to figure out why. The details are:

Strain: Choc Mint OG
Lights: Maxibright Daylight 660pro
Age: About 3 weeks from seed.
Humidity: 65%
Leaf temp: 21C
Light schedule: 24 hours
LUX: 45000
Soil: organic ecothrive
Pots: 2 litre Air Pots.

I transplanted a few days ago from some germination Air Pots as they looked a little unhappy and noticed the roots were not coming out of the bottom like previous grows.

They have curling of the leaves which curls down and they look limp.

They have been watered around 100ml a watering of filtered PHd water but after transplant they got 200ml which included a light dose of biobizz alga mic, Acti Vera and Root Juice.

The growth looks kind of slow and I would appreciate some advise from some experienced growers if possible.

I am a little unsure if I am supposed to water a little bit as they are young so they have oxygen available or water the pot fully to make sure they soil is all wet. A canna article said I should water fully as I can not over water in Air Pots but I have heard different also.

Over Watered
Don't water for at least 3-4 days,Maybe more?
Definitely do not soak all the soil at this stage
Just let them dry out
And be very careful how much you water.

Soil doesn’t look too wet (though that could be a problem), but you may be giving them too much light. I don’t work with lux, but a quick google search shows the ideal is 15k-50k for veg. Those look young to be pushing like you are. Can you dim or back up the light? 45k calculates to 1000ppfd. I don’t give that to my autos when they are full flower.

Yes I can dim the light but the temp will drop and at the moment they are at 21C. I can dim to 75% taking lux and it takes it to 30,000? Or 50% for around 20,000.

If this is definitely not a temperature problem I can change it now.

21c is on the cool side and will slow growth, but too much light will kill the plants. Can you raise the lights? You may need a heat solution outside the lights. I use a small oil heater in my tent when needed. Works great and doesn’t need to activate too often to maintain a healthy temp. I would turn the lights to 50% for now and seek a heat solution. Would have had it even lower for the seedling stage. You can gradually increase as the plants grow. 21c won’t damage them, but you want it warmer.

I'd suggest making sure the medium is pretty much completely saturated when you water. I'm guessing you're treating this as a fully organic grow; if so you won't need to water to runoff. I'd suggest when you next water, do it slowly and keep going until you start to see just a little bit of runoff. Keep in mind how much water it took to get to that point and use a little less afterwards.

Your surface temp may also be giving you problems. Now that winter is finally about here, my veg plants were pretty pissy until I got their leaf surface temps up to about 25C. Switched out my QB for a CMH fixture that threw a lot more IR and they perked right up within several hours.

Ok Liberated a Oil Heater and have that in there now hopefully it helps. Reduced the lights also!

Sweet with my heater hopefully they perk up like yours did. Just to clarify, yes I am doing an organic grow but adding seaweed ect via biobizz nutrients. Nothing not organic or salt based will be added.

I was just told not to saturate the soil. Not sure what to do now. Is it bad to water only a small amount like 100ml or 50 ml and see if they perk up?

Roots aren't eager to spread into a dry medium. If you're only ever saturating a small area, the roots are going to tend to hang out there. Large root systems tend to lead to more robust plants. The overwhelming majority of experienced growers I see commenting about watering pretty much all seem to recommend full saturation followed by a dryback for soil. Their arguments always seemed sensible.

Saturate the soil to a little runoff, then dryback, then saturate again.. Don't add small amounts during dryback..

Perfect. Sounds good to me. I'll do that tomorrow as they seem to have a little weight to them still. I'll give them a light feed of maybe fish mix or the seaweed too.

They are at already warmer at about 24C leaf temp with some hotter if they are closer to the heater at 26C.

What is the soil ? Isit ecothrive coco with the charge added into it or isit the soil mix ? Think it's called biosys or summit ? ... like majority said looks to be overwatering I've done this in the past where the roots ain't as developed as you'd think and putting too much water in and drowning them out simple mistake and easily fixable and avoidable ... I love choco mint og ... isit a seed or clone from before hso got raided or the v2 one ? Happy growing

Think it's called biosys or summit ? ... like majority said looks to be overwatering I've done this in the past where the roots ain't as developed as you'd think and putting too much water in and drowning them out simple mistake and easily fixable and avoidable ... I love choco mint og ... isit a seed or clone from before hso got raided or the v2 one ? Happy growing

These are from seed but it's Choc Mint OG 2.0. they were incredibly fast seeds which is why its a shame I had an issue slowing them down. Caaant wait to smoke some though I've literally only had a single joint of choc mint and it was insane.

These are from seed but it's Choc Mint OG 2.0. they were incredibly fast seeds which is why its a shame I had an issue slowing them down. Caaant wait to smoke some though I've literally only had a single joint of choc mint and it was insane.

It's my favourite strain ..... have you compacted it down ? I've never grown in soil I've used the ecothrive brand before tho and the light mix burnt a set of seedlings I had before .... you could always mix perlite into your mix or put some clay pebbles in the bottom of your pot for better drainage aswel happy growing

Hey guys,

I waited until just now to water as I wanted to make sure they were not still wet. Last watering was Saturday.

I watered with aerated filtered water and added 4ml of biobizz fish mix and 4ml of biobizz Algamic.

I wanted to give a full water like suggested and they got 400ml each. There was basically no run off even though I was aiming for that. I didn't do more as I only used 200ml before and we got these symptoms so I didn't want to push it. Pots feel heavy and full when lifting.

As you can see from the pictures there are some symptoms showing which is a bummer. With these symptoms does this change the way I should approach the issue?

Temp is 25c and humidity is kept at 60%.

I will take more pics to update you in a couple days.

Some good news after the depressing plant issues.. I have 3 Atomic Jelly seeds which look very health and will be transplanted soon! Hopefully with your help, these little girls don't go through the same trauma as I put the choc mint through..

Any input on how to move forward is appreciated!
