Once Ukraine defeats Russia and drives them from their country, the legend of the mighty red army will be broken and almost all of vast hoard of military equipment and munitions they inherited from the old USSR will be gone. Allies inherited them too as did the Ukrainians and for the first year of the war it was mostly fought with legacy Russian weapons and ammo on both sides. Once that shit was used up, the west started supplying arms, so they had a considerable head start and made the Russians use up much of their shit before even delivering the first HIMARS or 155mm round. Javelins and manpads for the most part in the early days while arranging old soviet arms and ammo from NATO partners who were once part of the Wasaw pact and hate the Russians! The world will be rid of a lot of old Soviet weapons at least or the Ukrainians will give them to Russia's many enemies, in other words all their neighbors!

Russia has been building factories to supply the war. How long do you think it will take to remove the Russians? Once the elections are over Putin will throw everything at Ukraine.

Kill enough of them and destroy enough of their equipment and they should be out of Ukraine by this time next year. Ukraine is supposed to get F16s and Grippen fighters in the new year and ATACMS are being delivered now. What happens over the next few weeks depends on the weather and local soil conditions, more sand means more ability to fight, more black gumbo means less movement when wet.

How much of the Russian legacy arms and munitions were destroyed using the same old soviet equipment that the allies and Ukraine had? How much Russian equipment and ammo were used up before the first 155mm shell was delivered? The first year of the war was fought with legacy Russian arms on both sides for the most part and the Russians wasted a lot of ammo and gun barrels on knocking down Ukrainian cities. Now they must go to North Korea and Iran for arms and munitions.

Ukraine also burned through much of the West's surplus. Russia may not have the capabilities it had but Ukraine has its own issues. Hungary is blocking aid from the EU, the US will be more stingier with a speaker that believes the world is 5,000 years old. So far with as much as the West gave them Ukraine took little territory in the latest push. Will they be able to take back the Donbas given that side had as much time to fortify it as Ukraine had. And mines have been as decisive as drones in the conflict. I doubt Russia will be running out of mines any time soon.

All indications are Russia is in a lot more trouble than Ukraine and are taking extremely desperate measures to maintain combat power and recruitment. The reason some western arms are low is because we planned on using air power and that might be the reason Ukraine is getting it soon. However, we too are ramping up ammo production, including Russian 152mm rounds.

We will see how the whole Israel thing goes and if they blame Iran and Russia for the terrorist attack, if they do, then they will support Ukrainian aid in America to punish Russia. It might even be happening already; Israel has a powerful lobby among evangelicals and this new speaker is dependent on them.

Ukraine has mandatory conscription, Russia has been trying to do a back door conscription. Wait until the election is over and they go mandatory. Will they be short of soldiers with 3X the population of Ukraine? Russia sure was not short of resources for Avdiivka (as tough as it has been) and we missed the operation coming. As much as I want Russia to get beaten badly they have not lost much land, gained some in other directions. The landscape does not look too different than the beginning of the spring offensive. And now that things are approaching a standstill they will have months more to sow the fields with more mines and dig more defences.

And the question from the Republicans, what is the end game in Ukraine? Will they continue feeding money into a conflict that seems to be going nowhere?

Any number of things including stolen explosives from the Russian army, all that is really required is cash. Derailing a train on the bridge can have the same effect, if it causes a pile up and not much explosive is required to cut the rails just as the engine goes over it, the faster the better. There are native Siberians from the area fighting in Ukraine and they are volunteer separatists, not prisoners. They wouldn't need to bring in much to do the job and it could be carried in a backpack, even delivered by one way drone hundreds of miles inside Russia. Take the train to a point close by, buy a car etc.

Yeah, I thought so too, but I think there might be linkages developing, depending on if Israel blames Russia and I think they do. His opinion is like Ben Hodges, Russia is fucked, and parts of their army might collapse. ATACMS will put tremendous pressure on their logistics and even air support, driving both back from the front along with C&C. We should start seeing the effects of this with more missiles, America has a lot of cluster variants going out of service and need to be disposed of apparently.

And the last year and a half has shown how effective the strategy has been working. Have you heard the people of Siberia talk about the war? It seems like most of them are pro-Russia in this war. How many will be blowing up the lines that feed themselves? Sort of like shooting yourself in the foot. And then are they going to take a train out of the area afterwards? Do you really think it will be hard to figure out who is travelling in the area who do not belong there? But in an alternate universe you might be right.

They only need a small group of separatists from any one of a dozen republics to do it, they don't need public support. The rise of China just to the south has changed things for them and put them much closer to the center of the world and independence from Russia. We will see, but if arms are coming across Siberia from North Korea, then Ukrainian intelligence might want to stop or disrupt the flow, that is the motivation and where the cash for bribes and expenses comes in. The people from the region are already fighting and risking their asses for Ukraine, perhaps they might like a job closer to home.
