To advance they need armor and trained troops, not a mob driven to the front in antique trucks! One can only imagine the artillery slaughter as the Russians try and advance in small groups under drone observation. Looks like their endless supply of manpower isn't so endless, now they need women to fight too, fight for what exactly?
Pull your head out of the (Ukrainian) sand. It is the same playbook they used in Bakhmut. If you do not mind the horrific losses you can take territory. And from reports they are using their best equipment in the fight. $10 M counter battery radar taken out yesterday, T-80 tanks in the battle. They also learned Ukraine's lesson learned, throwing iron at a problem just gets it destroyed. Ukraine changed tactics utilizing infantry instead. To advance they need armor and trained troops, not a mob driven to the front in antique trucks! Are the Russians ready for winter? The Ukrainians are and south of the Dnieper in Kherson, the soil is very sandy, there is a big sand park there you can see on maps. It takes a lot of rain to bog down in sand as compared to black gumbo and fighting in that area could go on all winter, if they can gain a stable bridgehead over the river. If they aren't, they are trying to make the Russians think they are, and it threatens Russian supply lines and the entrance to Crimea. The Russians must respond to a threat to this region and pull troops from elsewhere to do it.
We will see, but the Russians are taking a pounding while gaining little ground and are employing antiques and untrained troops, these are diversionary attacks to try and take heat off the south, Ukraine is defending the area on the cheap and mass killing Russians. It's not all roses, but the Ukrainians are doing far better than the Russians who are taking desperate measures. They can trade territory for dead Russians and destroyed equipment and then counter attack.Pull your head out of the (Ukrainian) sand. It is the same playbook they used in Bakhmut. It is not a diversionary tactic to take the heat off the south. If they were so afraid of the south, why would they not use the forces in Avdiivka there instead? The Russians may be at the rail line in the north. They do not have to take Avdiivka but just need fire control over the supply line in and starve out the Ukrainians over the winter. They do want to take it as a win to show before the elections, also on a practical level to take pressure off of Donetsk. They are taking huge losses but have been gaining ground. They may be using WWII trucks to bring in soldiers as they know if they use APC's the vehicles will get hit and destroyed. Might as well use something with no value to move the soldiers and save the iron for next year.We will see, but the Russians are taking a pounding while gaining little ground and are employing antiques and untrained troops, these are diversionary attacks to try and take heat off the south, Ukraine is defending the area on the cheap and mass killing Russians. Ukraine now has ATACMs and at the end of the year it should have F16s. If the Ukrainians thought it was important for other than slaughtering Russians, they would devote more resources to defending the turf. If the objective is to destroy the Russian army and its critical equipment for relatively little cost, then it is doing a very good job. The place was a Russian meat grinder for the past week or more with a lot of lost equipment, they learn, but a lot of them die before they do.It is not a diversionary tactic to take the heat off the south. I dunno how much equipment the Russians have left, but I'll bet the CIA and Ukrainians have a fairly accurate count and it seems to me that destroying it is more important than killing mobiks, but that is happening as a byproduct of the carnage. Let them attack and let them absorb catastrophic damage with artillery and drones inflicting most of the casualties. The Ukrainians don't want to concentrate too many forces because of those big fucking glide bombs and the big hole they make in the ground. One reason why holding onto fortified positions too long is frowned upon and more mobile warfare is preferred by the Ukrainians, that leverages their training, communications and equipment. It is not a diversionary tactic to take the heat off the south. Where do you get this? One reason why holding onto fortified positions too long is frowned upon and more mobile warfare is preferred by the Ukrainians, that leverages their training, communications and equipment.
It is standard military practice and why fixed defenses are generally not used or troops concentrated with artillery and especially air power at play. Take that big coal tailings heap they've been defending, but is in contention, what would 3 or 4 of those glide bombs do to heavily fortified positions on top of that? It is only the lack of real airpower and extensive minefields that allows such tactics as fixed defenses and lines to be used these days. It depends on the war and what they have to fight with, lack of airpower often devolves into trench warfare with the rise of modern anti-tank weapons. Drones seem effective at trench warfare however and provide what close air support and recon there is at a tactical level.Where do you get this?
