Trump asks judge to throw out Jan. 6 charges with presidential immunity defense

Former President Trump on Wednesday asked a judge to dismiss the whole of the government’s election interference case against him, arguing all his actions leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol are protected by presidential immunity.

“The prosecution does not, and cannot, argue that President Trump’s efforts to ensure election integrity, and to advocate for the same, were outside the scope of his duties. Instead, the prosecution falsely claims that President Trump’s motives were impure — that he purportedly ‘knew’ that the widespread reports of fraud and election irregularities were untrue but sought to address them anyway,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in the motion.

“But as the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and hundreds of years of history and tradition all make clear, the President’s motivations are not for the prosecution or this Court to decide. Rather, where, as here, the President’s actions are within the ambit of his office, he is absolutely immune from prosecution.”

Florida Democrat asks county to increase Mar-a-Lago tax to match Trump claims
Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) asked the Palm Beach County appraiser to increase the property tax for former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club, after he claimed that it’s worth significantly more than its appraised value.

Moskowitz’s letter, first reported by NBC News, came after a New York judge ruled that Trump and his sons committed business fraud by purposely inflating and deflating the value of their assets to get better loan terms and insurance rates.

The former president has claimed that the South Florida social club is worth “50 or 100 times” more than its $18 million appraised value, once saying its true worth could be as much as $1.5 billion.

“Mar-a-Lago was listed as worth $490 million in financial documents given to banks,” Moskowitz wrote in the letter. “If the property value of Mar-a-Lago is so much higher than it was appraised, will you be amending the property value in line with the Trump family’s belief that the property is worth well over a billion dollars?”

Moskowitz first floated the appraisal request in a post directed at Trump’s son, Eric Trump, last week, adding with laughing emojis, “Good luck with your new Tax Bill.”

The fraud case is on trial this week in New York to determine damages for Trump and his company’s activity. Prosecutors have requested at least $250 million in financial penalties and to bar Trump and his sons from running businesses in New York.
Trump denounced the decision and filed a motion to appeal it.

“I am worth much more than the numbers shown on my financial statements. I didn’t even include my most valuable asset, my brand,” Trump said. “There were no victims!”

He added that the judge “made up this crazy ‘KILL TRUMP’ decision, assigning insanely low values to properties, despite overwhelming evidence.”
“[The judge’s] anger & hatred is politically motivated & unprecedented by those who watched!” Trump said.

The MAL documents case has become a side show, and she can't help him in the other cases that will put him away for life. If she delays it too long, he will appear as a federal convict in the custody of the BOP. She will have destroyed her legal reputation for Trump already and it won't matter if she gives him a year's probation for everything, Trump is fucked a half dozen different ways.

Jack realized she was in the tank for Trump and went with the case in DC with Trump tried alone in a simple case with Chutkan as the judge. Then there is Georgia with early trials and the rats are breaking and pleading for a deal. By the time we get to Trump's trial in Georgia there should be Trump and some of his cronies left for a TV trial after Jack's this summer, or even fall before the election, if Jack tries his cronies in DC right away after he finishes Trump's trial and conviction. In any case there is a very good possibility of Trump appearing in the legendary orange jumpsuit on national TV during his Georgia trial.

Seriously, what was once a remote possibility with just the feds dealing with Trump, has thanks to his crimes in Georgia, promises to be a TV spectacle during election season with Donald dressed for the occasion. He might be the only one in the group of a half dozen or so to be in custody after his conviction in DC. Donald in court dressed in orange has gone from a remote possibility to being highly probable and nearly certain if Jack convicts him first in DC before his Georgia TV trial begins. Ten years ago, not even the Onion or MAD magazine could come up with such an insane scenario!

Trump's lawyers filed a motion yesterday requesting that the classified documents trial be delayed until at least mid-November. Perhaps not so coincedentally, the 2024 presidential election is scheduled for early-November.

Trump mulls trip to Capitol Hill amid Speaker scramble
Former President Trump is considering making a trip to Capitol Hill next week as House Republicans gather to determine who they will back to become the next Speaker following the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the position.
A source confirmed there are discussions about having Trump visit the Capitol next Tuesday, when the House GOP conference will hold a forum for Speaker candidates.

A second source said a Trump trip to Capitol Hill is far from finalized and may not ultimately happen.
Trump is scheduled to visit Iowa over the weekend and New Hampshire on Monday for campaign stops in his bid for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

The Messenger first reported on the possibility of Trump visiting the Capitol next week.
It would be Trump’s first time visiting Capitol Hill since Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob of his supporters violently clashed with law enforcement and stormed the complex in an attempt to stop the certification of President Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to federal charges over his efforts to remain in power after the 2020 election.
The House on Tuesday voted to remove McCarthy as Speaker after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) brought up a motion to oust the California Republican. Gaetz and seven other Republicans joined with Democrats to ultimately vote to remove McCarthy from his position.

The former president has declined to endorse any particular candidate for Speaker in the aftermath of McCarthy’s ouster, telling reporters on Wednesday there are “great people in the Republican Party that could do a great job as Speaker.”
Two of the lawmakers who have said they are pursuing the job — Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) — are both Trump allies.

Some in the GOP have floated Trump as a candidate for Speaker, including Reps. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). The Speaker technically is not required to serve in the House.

Trump, who has been in court in New York this week for a fraud trial, has said he is willing to do whatever he can to help the House GOP in the short term, but he told reporters Wednesday his “total focus” is on his 2024 presidential campaign.
Several Democrats nodded to the events of Jan. 6 in response to a social media post from Greene, who suggested if Trump were Speaker, “the House chamber will be like a Trump rally everyday!!”
“No thanks, we’re good. We’ve seen a Trump rally at the Capitol already,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“We already saw a “#Trump rally” in Congress back on #January6th,” Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) wrote on X.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) argued Trump’s potential trip to the Capitol was the latest indication House Republicans are beholden to the former president.

“The fact that MAGA House Republicans are spending their time fighting over who can best do Trump’s bidding instead of delivering for the American people tells you everything you need to know about their party’s priorities,” DNC spokesperson Sarafina Chitika said in a statement.

Oh shit, this won't make him any friends in the Navy, or the CIA!

BREAKING: Donald Trump's chances for prison skyrocket as bombshell reporting reveals that he recklessly discussed sensitive intelligence about U.S. nuclear submarines with a foreign billionaire at Mar-a-Lago.

And it gets even worse...

According to source familiar with the matter, Trump shared the submarine information with an Australian billionaire who then shared it with scores of others including at least a dozen foreign officials, his own employees, and even a handful of curious journalists.

This wasn't an intelligence leak, it was a flood.

The stunning allegation was reported to Special Counsel Jack Smith who is currently investigating Trump's illegal smuggling and hoarding of classified documents at his Florida compound.

Prosecutors and the FBI have repeatedly interviewed the billionaire in question, Mar-a-Lago member Anthony Pratt, and he was the one who spilled the beans on Trump.

Pratt claimed that during a conversation with Trump, he mentioned the American submarine fleet. The ex-president then got excited, leaned closer to be stealthy, and told him two crucial pieces of information about U.S. submarines:

1) The exact number of nuclear warheads they carry.

2) Exactly how close they can get to a Russian submarine without detection.

This information would be EXTREMELY useful to America's adversaries and is something Trump should never have revealed.

Pratt then went on to share the information with at least 45 other people via emails and conversations.

Enough is enough. The longer Trump remains a free man, the more secret information he will be able to reveal. It's time to lock him up for good.

… Donald's main wallet has been seized
I missed that. Please link to where he has been forbidden to divert campaign money to personal use such as legal defense costs.

His “main wallet” can mean nothing else; it certainly does not refer to his properties now operated at a loss and soon to be in receivership.

It has been reported that the sever his is pulling his scams on is owned by Trump Inc and would be controlled by the receiver now, Donald uses his business and lately his sucker's money as his wallet and I suspect his affairs are disorganized and entangled in ways he doesn't understand. Donald lives in his businesses too, Mar A logo, Trump Tower and Bedminster are all owned by Trump org I believe. They expect the trial to be settled by the end of the year and that is when his assets will be disposed of unless he comes up with a big pile of cash.

He can divert some of the money for personal use, there were several different scams with different rules, read the fine print as they say. It depends on where and who is holding the cash from those scams I suppose, but if the server running them and taking the money, is owned by the Trump org, then any new donations to it should be redirected to the receiver, a retired judge.

It's gotta hurt because Donald was howling in pain and freaking out over it more than his criminal cases, it will also expose his finances and true wealth like never before.

This will also accelerate any bankruptcy he was headed for and reduce his financial flexibility and disrupt his cash flow.

The judge overseeing Donald Trump’s civil fraud case issued an order requiring Trump disclose all business transactions. Meanwhile, Trump was dropped off the Forbes 400 list of America’s wealthiest people. Law professor Leah Litman and Investigative journalist Johnathan Greenberg join MSNBC’s Melissa Murray to discuss. Greenberg says the move from Forbes is “long overdue,” adding A.G. Letitia James has a “rock solid case.”
