It has now been more than three months since the official start of the famous and long-awaited Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian troops in 2023. Since then, many critics point out that Ukrainian progress has been meagre for such a long period of time. Other sources suggest, however, that things are moving forward relentlessly. The question, therefore, is where exactly are we, how is the counteroffensive going, what can we really expect from the Ukrainian military macro-operation, are we looking at a failure, an announcement or a near victory? Personally, I think before Joe's first term is over the Ukrainians will make sure the Russians won't be a threat to anybody for a long time. NATO troops will be much less likely to be needed until Germany gets strong and after they kick the Russians asses out Ukraine will be strong too the west will make sure of that and any republican likely to win the WH would unlikely have Trump's outlook on Russia. If Joe wins in 24 Ukraine will prosper like West Germany and South Korea before them, strong economies mean a strong defense and Ukraine has lots of resources including NG.

I don't think Vlad will have much left in the tank by inauguration day in 2025. Ukraine is determining the pace of events now, not the Russians and they have almost chewed their way through the majority of defenses in southern Ukraine and are steadily taking ground and will continue to do so as the arms and munitions pour in. The Ukrainians have trained 10,000 FPV drone pilots and are training another 10,000 more, so I figure they have a plan to stretch out those military munitions and it appears to be epic! Winter will mean less cover for the Russians from FPV drones and drones in general, I figure the F16s, storm shadows, and other cruise missiles and glide bombs they are getting will deliver the coup de grace to the Russians in Ukraine this winter and coming spring. Remember, the Russians were fought to a standstill and absorbed tremendous losses for no ground gained at all with maximum effort applied. The Ukrainians have been making methodical progress clearing minefields and killing the Russian artillery trying to stop them with deadly radar directed counter battery fire and drone air superiority at all levels. The further in they get through the defensive lines the faster they can go and the more directions they can go in.

They don't need to make the coast, just cut the east west logistical routes anywhere along it by bringing them under artillery fire control. Then cutting the Kerch bridge will put the seal on the Russians in Crimea and southwestern Ukraine.

If I were Vlad I would take this warning very seriously, unless he wants to see European Russia in the dark this winter. I thought they were holding out for the court case and money, but it just looks like they are ready to retaliate this time by attacking Russian power transformers with drones. I don't think the Russians can replace them, they will be taking transformers from eastern Russian cities and Siberia to replace those destroyed in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

I sure hope Vlad doesn't get stupid this year or there could be a lot of cold Russians in the dark this winter if they attack the Ukrainian power grid. They might be building a very large supply of drones in anticipation of this, and other things Russia might do, killing their power grid for years would be a threat they could hang over their heads. Probably less than 100 suicide UAVs hitting large transformers that are hard to replace might do a lot to bring their grid down, but I would expect the Ukrainian drone attacks to be in the hundreds, if not thousands for such an offensive.

I think there are two objectives here, one to liberate Ukraine and the other to destroy the Russian military as much as possible and reduce the future threat. They just want to do that as economically as possible in terms of lives lost. Leveraging the western military technology and training, they have been given and the drones they are buying and building, to reduce casualties and stretch out their supplies of military munitions. If some don't like the less expensive slower methodical approach, it's not their blood being spilt.

They are destroying Russian artillery with radar directed counter battery fire and drones whenever the Russians dare fire on the sapper's clearing mines. Drones and mortars can clear the trenches in front of them while they work on the mines, but the main thing is to out range the Russian artillery and kill it quick with accurate counterbattery fire.
