I think the Russians are in trouble, the Ukrainians are through many of the mine fields, the tanks can maneuver, and they are conducting flanking attacks deep behind Russian lines expanding their breakthrough. They can go in several directions and the Russians can't mine the routes fast enough as their troops have to retreat too or be cut off. The Russians had 60% of their manpower in the first lines that the Ukrainians have broken through, and they are through the second lines too and perhaps even further. The Russians are reported to have almost a half million personnel in Ukraine now though the numbers don't appear to be helping much, since they are untrained, poorly led, have no supporting equipment and no supplies or ammo.

Joe just wants to shift Asian trade away from China to its neighbors and make them economically strong, so they can be militarily strong and buy western arms and be tied into the western system of alliances in the Pacific eventually. It all depends on how much motivation China provides for them by acting like aggressive assholes with historic border disputes with all their neighbors. If they want more land, then take it from Russia in the east, they have plenty of historic claims there too and will have much less trouble for their efforts.

Republicans want to stab allies in the back and appease a losing Putin, want to blow the geopolitical bargain of the century, why? In the face of the judgements of the state department, experts, the military and the national security community, they want to back a traditional foe with hundreds of nukes pointed at America, why? I know they are stupid and ignorant, but this is ridiculous after Bucha, the destruction of Ukrainian cities and the murder of civilians and the Russian leader an indicted war criminal. I suppose if they support breaking the US constitution and the rule of law, then international law should not be much different, a fascist is a fascist at home and abroad. If they support Trump, then Putin shouldn't be a problem either.

Volunteers under the direction of talented people can make lots of decoys quickly from junk that is laying around and save many real systems while using up Russian munitions. Just send up a drone to look over the copy to make sure it looks real enough for the Russians.

For the future, they don't put up oil and gas rigs that big unless there is lots of gas there and the area is largely untapped, one reason for the invasion, Ukrainian competition and breaking the Russian stranglehold on European energy. It is very close to the EU too just a few hundred miles from the polish border.

actually those rigs are sitting on one of the largest gas deposits for Ukraine, Russia took them in 2015, i just can remember the name of the deposit there.
If they can, and i use if very harshly, Ukraine can turn that into giving Europe gas for the winter going through Romania......

Canada has the most Ukrainians of the diaspora and there are lots of Ukrainian Canadians in western Canada. I imagine any world congress of Ukrainians would have a few Canadians too.

Maybe not this year or even next, but they could start the pipeline in the EU to the place early and once the Russians are clear of Crimea and Transnistria, then serious rapid development can begin. Germany has enough LNG for domestic needs, but I understand their industry is suffering for a lack. I figure Ukraine has a window of a decade to sell as much LNG and oil to the EU and the surrounding region including Turkey, as they can, before demand drops off due to the green energy revolution. It should secure Europe's energy until they transition away and stop them from burning coal to generate electricity. It should also make Ukraine prosper if they can control corruption and with Zelenskyy and in the aftermath of an existential national fight, they have a good chance. Veterans didn't fight this war so crooks could steal the country from out under them and veterans will be a political force to be reckoned with in post war Ukraine. They will see corruption as betrayal, I mean look what it did for the Russians and everybody in Ukraine absorbed that lesson.

Now that Germany cut Russian gas, has full reserves and switched to LNG and figure Ukraine can win and knows how to fight, they appear to be all in now and are building their own army back up and that of Ukraine too, why not any arms given to Ukraine will be used to eliminate any threats to Germany from Russia while they rebuild. Also, there is all that Ukrainian gas that is very close by and quick to develop in the western black sea, if motivated to do so and there is capital. Ukraine could meet Germany's and the EU energy needs or a significant portion of them until they transition away, better than burning coal. The faster the Russians are gone from Crimea and back into eastern Ukraine at least, the faster it can happen and pipelines in the EU can be built now and buried 2 meters underground in Ukraine to the shores of the western black sea.
Germany is giving a lot lately and building arms factories in Ukraine and at the root of it with Germans is self-interest and here there is more than just an interest in national defense. Every dollar the EU gives Ukraine for energy will also be used for their defense against Russia and do double duty.

And Ukrainian gas will pay for it! If America drops the ball a year and half down the road by electing an idiot, others will be able to pick it up and carry the ball to the finish line. Russia should be fucked by the end of Biden's first term anyway, no matter what the republicans try to do, except try to form alliance with them after dumping NATO, though dumping NATO after this war would be a problem politically. Right now, Ukraine divides the GOP right down the middle, unlike most other issues.
