TRUMP CONVICTED

I like Beau a lot. I agree that there are many people serving much too long for their particular crimes. That shouldn't come into play here. I suppose Beau would give a 1 yr. sentence of home detention, with subsequent sentences to come served concurrently. Oh, yeah Beau. He's old, so he should get a break, right? A fuck you Beau, on this one.
In this instance, what keeps me from agreeing with Beau is the reality of the US penal system. I wholly agree with him that the emphasis should be on rehabilitation.

However the reality of the prison experience is dehumanizing. The guards tend to be on an ugly power trip.
And the alpha inmates use rape etc. as the indicator of their life-and-death power.

So in principle, I think Beau has a solid point.

But in practice, until the nobody inmates are safe from the layered brutalization by the shot-caller inmates and the guards, his vision is rose-tinted imo.

That man knows how bad our prisons are.
Selectively shielding him or the other “old rich white guy” convicts from the shark tank that pays them dividends is (imo) pernicious bullshit.

He speaks to a lot of republicans and independents who leave messages and questions. Donald will get a lot longer than 10 years over this shit and other indictments will drop over the MAL documents. Even a decade in the slammer would finish him anyway and like others he would get out of his cage in a bag.

If your enemy is digging his own grave, get out of the way and just watch! Keep as much distance as possible, no need to say a thing, Jack did all the talking with a speaking indictment dropped before the weekend to fill the media and counter Trump's bullshit. Joe will speak after Trump is convicted and perhaps sentenced, Joe will be inaugurated, and Donald will be sentenced, both will occupy federal housing.

President Joe Biden has maintained his silence since former President Donald Trump was federally indicted in the alleged mishandling of classified documents probe. Trump called the indictment a "joke" and vowed to "evict a totally corrupt president" in 2024. NBC News' Allie Raffa reports.

Trump’s former attorney sounds the alarm, demands that the Justice Department immediately investigate whether Donald Trump and Jared Kushner sold Saudi Arabia any of the military secrets in the top secret documents that Trump stole and stashed.

Michael Cohen declared, “The Justice Department should be, if they're not already, looking at the unholy relationships that exist between Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, and Jared Kushner. I mean, this whole two plus billion dollars to an unqualified hedge funder makes no sense to me, and in light of the information that came out, that there was military information on Iran, and we all know what that Saudi Arabia has had Iranian aggression on their mind for a long time -- who knows what was shown to them? Who knows what was discussed? Who knows what was sold? None of us."

Cohen continued, “I do believe that our law enforcement, because we have the greatest law enforcement in the world, they can find anything, and I do believe they will find a lot of information that goes on outside of Trump, even though I do believe he probably had his hands in it, that he certainly knows about it, and chances are, if he had his hand in it and he knew about it, he profited it from it.”

This should strike fear in the heart of every American who gives a damn about our struggling democracy.

80 percent of likely GOP voters think Trump should still be able to be president if convicted
Eighty percent of likely Republican primary voters in a new poll think former President Trump should still be able to get back to the Oval Office even if he’s convicted in the classified documents case.
A CBS News-YouGov poll, released Sunday, found that just 20 percent of likely GOP primary voters think Trump shouldn’t be able to serve again as president if he’s convicted over his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Trump, who is running for the White House in 2024 after losing his 2020 reelection bid to President Biden, was indicted last week on 37 counts as part of the probe into Trump’s document handling and whether the former president tried to keep the records from being returned after the end of his White House tenure.

Just 12 percent of likely GOP primary voters said they’re more concerned the the documents were a national security risk, compared to 76 percent who said they’re more concerned that the indictment against Trump was politically motivated. Another 12 percent said they’re concerned about both.

Sixty-one percent of that group also said the indictment “won’t change” their view of the former president. Seven percent said the indictment might change their view “for the worse” and 14 percent say “for the better.” Eighteen percent said it “depends.”

Nearly two-thirds of likely GOP primary voters said they’d prefer Trump not talk about the various investigations against him as he campaigns for 2024, while 39 percent say they would prefer he do so.

Trump polled at the top of a hypothetical Republican primary field, leading with 61 percent who say they’ll vote for him. In second place was Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, with 23 percent.

Trump is the first former U.S. president to face federal criminal charges. Earlier this year, Trump also became the first former president to face criminal charges when was indicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an investigation by the Manhattan district attorney.

Conducted June 7-10, the poll surveyed 2,480 U.S. adults and 1,798 U.S. adults who were recontacted after the indictment against Trump was unsealed. Responses from the subgroup of likely Republican primary voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 5.5 percentage points.
