It is cooling water and power for the nuclear power plant up stream that has me concerned, if there was trouble there it would be a regional catastrophe and would include NATO countries. I think Vlad will destroy that nuclear plant out of spite and has it mined too and when they are driven out of the area it will go too. Perhaps NATO should provide air transport for the Ukrainians to surround and cut the Russians there off until their army can control the area. Make a surprise attack 20 miles from the plant and cut off all the exits, tell the Russians there that if anything happens there, they will be the ones staying there and cleaning up the mess, if they do it, they die from radiation poisoning. NATO helicopters and fighters with NATO people flying them and Ukrainians on the ground, fighters to keep the Russians off them until the Ukrainian army arrives and they can help that too. No attacks within 20 miles of the power plant, just cut it off and approach by foot with drones.

Make sure they understand that if they blow it up or let it melt down through stupidity, that they will be staying or taken back to the plant to clean it up until they die! If the Russian colonel wants to follow orders, he needs to understand it will be suicide for him and his subordinates. Get as close as you reasonably can and encircle the place with infantry and make all of them understand the consequences for them personally.

Plainly I don’t know.

But I don’t think all this noisy saber-rattling would be going on if there were a serious plan to cross the nuclear threshold.

One factor imo is Putin’s health. He has a serious movement disorder. That could be the tip of a medical iceberg. I would not be surprised if the executive tier 2 is aware, and cautious as a result.

a very good breakdown of China's economic issues and projections about what will happen in their economy this decade.

My take-away is that China can't afford to carry Russia as a second tier partner nor can it afford to further alienate the customers (the west) it so urgently needs to help it get through this decade and grow.

The last thing it needs is a war over Taiwan. They need to mow their own lawn.
