It will be relevant for a while and how long depends on Elon and the new CEO, but if Trump can gin up a twitter clone others can too. Elon and twitter are becoming deeply unpopular, and the unpoliced threads are filled with garbage, trolls, bots and more propaganda and disinformation than actual information and news, which is buried. Beau was complaining about it the other day when he spoke of the van that crashed into the WH security perimeter and they hauled a lunatic with a NAZI flag out of it. The thread was full of right-wing nuts going on about it and spewing bullshit, whereas local journalists used to post actual news about it before. It acts or did act as a kind of AP or Reutters news service before Elon grossly overpaid for it and cut moderation while actively going hard right.

There is a problem with Twitter and where there is a problem there is also an opportunity.

I got an account with Twitter when it first came out but only logged on there a few times since. I wouldn't go there at all except people keep posting videos here that open in Twitter and I don't know until I click on it here. Disgusting place.

I recently joined up at Tribel, a new Twitter clone, and tho it's going to keep the BS out it's too much like Twitter to keep me coming back. Hate them both. Good investment opportunities at Tribel tho. ;)

I have to plow through and block endless Russian trolls and bots for Ukraine news, those boys should be fighting on the battlefield and not online. The fascists are ready to invade the place when Elon removed the defenses, because he grossly overpaid and is a rightwing fascist himself. Competition is coming from several sources and things can change very fast in the online world, social media platforms come and go. Maybe Elon wants to make Twitter the foxnews of social media and will retain those who live on bullshit, like foxnews viewers. Usually I can tolerate opposing views, but that is not what is going on at Twitter and who wants to argue with a bot or paid troll from Russia who is avoiding the war his country is waging. It is impossible to tell the Russian trolls and bots from republican fascists there, the propaganda is nearly identical between the republicans, foxnews and Russia.

That's the thing, if he builds a foxnews like base, it might not go away, but will fade into irrelevance as competition arises. One just has to look at the ad revenues of the parlor or Trump's truth social to see that the business model does not work very well in generating revenue.

Looks like it won't end up being voluntary and if the EU does Twitter in, so will Canada. We can block child porn and copyright material online and one state has even banned TikTok so why not twitter, a place full of Russian trolls and bots, even though they can't operate inside Russia. They most often masquerade as maga republicans, and their propaganda is identical to theirs.

One must be careful of the posts on twitter, my feed is pretty clean, except occasionally, but a search on Ukraine reveals how bad it its and the cause is lack of moderation, there is nobody minding the store. Elon has no sense of social responsibility at all and is completely greed and vanity driven. Twitter is easy prey for the Russians and Chinese since Elon fired the staff because he overpaid, and the previous owners used his vanity to turn him into a sucker and make a fortune.

Elon feels his freedom is constrained and thinks he should be able to spread lies and hate, the poor fellow thinks he is being oppressed by big guberment and "woke" people. Is it little wonder his businesses are being hurt by his big mouth, fascism and ego. The world's greediest man has grievances, he is all in for DeSantis and he oppresses critics, bans books and attacks minorities.

I think muck wants to crash twitter to get out from under it, without having to admit that he was fucking stupid to buy it in the first place.
Apparently the bidet of asslicking fanboi tweets has lost it's novelty, and now he's bored with the whole thing, and tired of being exposed as the fascist authoritarian that he is, on his own platform.

I sorta hope that if he tries to file for bankruptcy, the judge laughs his billionaire ass out of court.

Elon is gonna have trouble in the EU and in Canada, but I dunno how we would regulate it. I access it through Google and have to pick through it carefully, though my personal feed seems pretty clean. Elon is promoting fascism and hate for profit, same idea as foxnews IMO and he wants to be empowered by morons, just like they and the republicans are. If the democrats win enough in 24 they will regulate social media, there is little point responding to bigots and Russian or billionaire funded bots, so they flood the zone with bullshit and try to warp public perception.
