I don't post much over Donald's rape suit, since it makes no difference politically at all. Winning a 100-million-dollar lawsuit over defamation and rape means nothing to republicans and a lot of others. Shit getting indicted and convicted over the secret docs and obstruction will barely scratch his support in the republican party. Jailing and imprisoning him might make enough of a difference, but it might not stop him from winning the GOP nomination. He could win the election from his cell though, if the economy went south or the price of gasoline went up a few weeks before the election.

Maybe if there wasn't so much blatant law breaking and outright treason by one of the two political parties who turned full fascist, there wouldn't be so many legal shows on YouTube?

I think it might become an antidote to Fox and RW media echo chamber. I'm occasionally annoyed by their repetitive messages but have to admit that while they are biased, they both hew to facts and presentation of a truthful narrative.

They both stoke the fire of impatience. If that's the worst they do, compared to what Fox has done, I can live with it.

They stoke interest and inevitable comparisons are made with the swift justice regular folks get. These are mostly DOJ alumni like Glenn and Harry that I take most seriously. The stop secret documents leaker case makes this point better than anything else. Foxnews and the rightwing echo chamber repeat a lie so often and incessantly that it becomes truth for many. This is a well-known method of psychological manipulation and must be countered by similar methods using truth and facts.

Kevin's house might crash the economy FFS and they only have a slim majority in one part of the congress. If they do crash the economy, they might not get the support from the shareholding class who control foxnews, as they would normally expect. However, causing an economic depression would work for them by blaming Biden, if foxnews and the echo chamber repeated the lie enough. This is but a small example of the real and present danger they represent to the country.

One difference that gets little attention is that afaik that man didn’t sell any of the classified info. If (it turns out that FBI believes) he did, then it gets harder to understand why he isn’t being treated like Teixeira.

Teixeira shared for ego, not money and Trump probably did the same, his were on a password protected server and Trumps were protected by a simple padlock on his pool house. There are remarkable similarities, including motive, except Teixeira didn't also commit two counts of obstruction of justice, or have his lawyers write congress whining and bitching in a panic. It is an excellent comparison of equality under the law, bearing in mind that justice delayed is justice denied, especially at his age. The kid is looking at 25 years and was about as low as you get in the US government and Trump was at its apex and bore much more responsibility than a kid who was thrown in over his head and without a proper evaluation. If a private and a general are accused of the same crime, the general bears more responsibility than the private and has fewer excuses.

It is a real and present danger to my country and yours, but I have the luxury of some distance from it. My country didn't get the way it is by accident, it took effort, yours will too, or you might not have it for long. I feel the same way about America as I feel about Ukraine, and I spoke of the battle for the soul of America long before Joe did. Your fate is still in the balance, and you are one election away from disaster, even with all that has happened an increase in the price of gasoline could finish American democracy. Trump and Biden are within the margin of error in most head-to-head polls. If the sonofabitch wasn't going to prison, he would probably be in the Whitehouse after 24. Shit he could win the election from his cell if Joe blundered, or the economy crashed. So yeah, I have reason to be concerned, anybody who can think abstractly would be.

Thanks for this. I'm glad that you are posting here. My previous post was perhaps a bit too rough, please know that I meant it as a joke. I just took a look at your and my profiles. We both joined RUI in Nov. 2014! A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, hasn't it?

I look at the struggle for liberal democracy as a global one and America is its most important front, Ukraine is another. Imperialism appears to be the biggest current enemy of liberal democracies, both the Russian and Chinese versions. A look at the polling in America shows a large swath of the population is tractable and has been negatively influenced by foxnews and other rightwing media propaganda. However, there are still a majority of people who respond to actual facts and are persuadable. You have to make it until demographic and generational change can make a bigger difference and the future of my country is intimately linked to the fate of yours.

If you weren't teetering on the edge of autocracy, American politics would not interest me nearly as much. I learned a lot here and, in my struggle to understand the social and political dynamic in America. The rise of Trump and the decline of the republican party took many by surprise, until we realized the festering mess that lay under the surface with both historical roots and modern causes like Foxnews. I'm far from alone in thinking the fox should be killed and their business model made problematic. However, the democratic party has plenty of people smarter than me who can think up plenty of ways to address this issue, same for guns. Sometimes I like to explore what is possible for both foxnews and for guns, it's not just that Canada's murder rate is 8 times lower than America's, it could be 20 times lower as it is in Europe and Australia, if not for smuggled guns.
