We have criminal liable laws in Canada, and they seem to work well and do not limit free honest speech, dishonest speech has an issue though. Here people can be sued in civil court and there can even be criminal penalties of up to 5 years in prison. An example, a couple were accusing police officers of pedophilia in Ontario and stood outside the police station with signs naming officers. They were charged with criminal liable and given two years in prison.

If 35% of Americans own a gun, then every third house they break into while people are at work will have a gun. Access is not an issue for terrorists in America, they can climb off the plane in Texas and go to the nearest gun shop and be armed to the teeth inside an hour and be slaughtering Americas the same day, with a plan they could kill hundreds, if not more. The same product safety rules will apply as with other things and make gun manufacturers, distributers and retailers liable for the damage these products cause, they should be treated no differently than other consumer products. Soon no guns would be made in America and a ban on importing them will be imposed too, it won't cause too many ripples, except among those who would never vote democratic anyway, most people wouldn't know about it or care if they did.

Remington/insurance company was not sued for the actual harm the gun caused but how they marketed it. I find it hard to fathom how the gun itself could be held liable just as a car is not when it is driven through pedestrians on a crowded sidewalk. It would be an interesting case though.

Just remember, if you don't give a fuck about the slaughter in the towns and cities, then when it comes time to implement gun control, they won't give a fuck about you, and your misconceived rights. In the end your rights are those your fellow citizens give you and the 2nd is no better at stopping it as a sheet of toilet paper is for stopping a bullet. The NRA and gun nuts brought you to this point and when the republicans lose power, they will lose it for a long time. It will start slow, but with each mass murder and election cycle the restrictions will increase, sooner or later guns have got to go in America. It happened everywhere else where there is a functioning democracy, the only exceptions being a very well-regulated militia, like in Switzerland and even in most of those place's guns are kept in local secure armories.

The GOP is headed for electoral disaster in 24 and once they are down, they will be kept down by removing foxnews from the air and cable, and by passing HR1, voting rights and other anti-fascist legislation. I would expect the first measures taken on guns will be mild but will progress over time. The republicans are doing much to keep themselves down too with their fruitcake policies, election denial, anti-constitutional attitude, and lunatic candidates, all the while being led by a criminal loser who is on his way down.
