Trying out LED Lighting.

Hello everyone,
Feels good to be back. I wish I could remember my old account or email associated with it but oh well.

Tent: 36"x36"x63" | Lighting: King LED 2000w | Medium: Fox Farms Ocean Forest 50% / Home compost 50%. | Nutes: FF Trio + FF BushDoctor Cal-mag.

Strains: Sundae Batter (Back Left), Purple Crunch (Middle), Tahoe Animal (Front Left), Banana Fruit Cake (Front Right), Sugar Mints(Front), Gelazzi (Back Right).

All In 3gal pots.

This picture was yesterday. The plants were at Day 33 and Day 23. Unfortunately, 10 day difference in age but oh well.

Sundae Batter already topped and recovered. Gelazzi already topped and recovered. I topped the remaining 4. Recovering now. Will tie down branches to even out the canopy.

Looking to flip after they recover before they get too big for my tent.

Thanks for the heads up. If I add a 4000w along w/ the 2000w, What would I be at then for watt per square foot?
I have an old 400w HPS. But that thing throws heat and probably melt the tent or a fire hazard at this point.

Haha Technically a new member, but I was a member back in like 2010. Kinda bummed, I can't remember the account or email. Been going through old threads to find my posts or grow journals but no luck yet. Will keep searching cause I'm stubborn.

Little background of my experience on RIU.

Found RIU in high school and absorbed as much knowledge as I could. Following Subcools monster outdoor grows, and many others on here at that time. Very sad to hear about Subcool. Rest easy in the gardens of Weeden.:peace:

On a shoestring budget growing in a closet with CFLs. After some time, I wanted to get some better lighting and posted in the Classifieds/Wanted section for a 400w HPS system. A couple days later a message from a stranger offered me a free 400w HPS system he just built with reflector.

I was skeptical but accepted. A week later it arrived at my door. I was shocked by the generosity of a fellow grower on here. Inside was some of his homegrown goodies. Incredibly nice guy.

Later on, he sent me a couple clones, If I remember right, it was either Apollo 11 x C99 or Aurora x C99. Blew my mind that it was possible to do that back then. But after graduating I stopped growing.

Took the fan leaves off the younger plants for the branches to grow. Took the time to tie down the Sundae Batter and Gelazzi. While looking at the plants saw green algae on the soil, only in Purple Crunch pot. I looked up what kills algae on soil.

Found out 1:3 ratio of vinegar to water to kill the algae without hurting the plant. So gave the plant just enough to cover the total surface area. In my quick search the main culprit of algae growth is over saturation or poor circulation.

I think I've been overwatering, so I'm holding off until the soil dries out more. This is my first run with FF OF and still learning how long it can retain water before next watering.

Well... Probably should've left it alone. the Purple Crunch didn't like that vinegar/water mix. It did kill some of the algae on the soil but might have hurt the plant in the process.

Lesson learned and won't do this again. If I lose it wouldn't be the end of the world but unfortunate as I like do-si-do.
Lucky I've plenty of seeds waiting to be germ'd also it would give some room back to the other 5.
Glass half full mindset.

Hope everyone had a great week.

Purple crunch was pulled out. Didn't survive my stupidity. Reflecting on what led up to the algae growth.
I was watering every 2-3 days. The Gelazzi, Sugar Mints, Tahoe Animal, and Banana Fruit Cake didn't like it. Let them dry out. Now I'm at 4-5 days in between waterings.
Sundae batter was the only one that didn't mind the watering every 2-3 days.
Since I'm using FF OF for the first time, I have a little learning curve with it.

Ill post some photos tomorrow.

my brother used too grow with rockwool grow cubes in buckets and one way too prevent algae from forming on top of the rockwool was he would add a layer of hydroton on top of the rockwool so that light didn't hit it no light hit the top layer of rockwool no algae could form! good luck with your grow mate! maybe try blocking light from hitting the top layer of soil ? :( light + water = algae lol

Thanks! That makes sense. The soil was getting light for a while as the Purple Crunch was stunted from a stubborn shell and helped it off. Combined with my excessive watering it wasn't helping. Plenty of water and light hitting that pot to bloom it.

Really depends on which model King 2000W he has, in looking them up some are 200W draw, while others are 380W draw. The sweet spot for LED's is about 32-35 watts per Sq. ft.

honestly that light will yield you at least a hundred grams of dry nug weight if you flower in a 3x3 tent but if I was flowering in a 3x3 I would want at least 300 watt's ! back in the day my brother was flowering in a 2x4x5 tent and he was using a 400watt metal halide we would get primo bud!

Nice! I'll probably will flower with this light just to see what it can do. Next round bump up to 4000w King LED.
Would be cool if I won that phlizon giveaway. That is a 640w.
