2Water's First Grow

Alright, so before the night is through, 1 last update. They were hungry/slash thirsty, pots were dry. I watered each plant about 1 liter of water mixed with 15ml coconut water and 2 tablespoons of raw honey. Literally by the time I got done spraying (using a pump sprayer) I could see the color coming back. Freaking amazing! Do I sound like a proud papa? Mama even gave them a pep talk (totally serious)! Plan now will be to water every other day 1 liter per plant. Since it's mostly coco based it should help maintain being moist but not dry.

Here are some more pics. They appear to like lower humidity than vpd suggests, lowered to 55-60%RH. Temps maintaining 76F high and 69Fl low. I have been watering all 3 with half a gallon a day, plan for this coco living soil appears to like daily waterings. I also named the girls, here they are in all their glory 2 weeks from being planted in the dirt!

2 weeks old from sprouting today! Maintaining temps and humidity, light is now 26 inches from canopy at 65%

That's a lot of honey for 1 liter of water. It will be interesting to see how that works out.

Best advice is to feed the plants with a base nutrient (exp Botanicare, or similar) and get your nutrient solution pH dialed in to 6.3-6.5 before watering

Sorry, I should have wrote that better. That was 2 tbsp for the whole amount of diluted coconut water. Just gave them some rice water mixed in as well today

If you’re still watering half gallon a day you might want taper that off and let them get a little bit of dry backs, they’re small enough they need a bigger root mass to actually use that much water a day.

Thanks, from what I've been reading, coco based living soils actually need more water and never have a dry back. When I initially tried to give a dry back, then they were yellowing. #2 and #3 are a little water logged, but I since I switched to daily waters to maintain moisture levels for the coco, nutrient uptake seems to have stabilized, and they are all 3 growing better. If you have some reading on coco based living soils, I'd love a link.

I don’t have any readings just talking from personal experience. Ive had a mom in a 1 gal of nftg #4 soil which I believe is primarily coco based with maybe a bit of peat moss? Have had it for a while now still living off of salt nutrients in a 1 gal just fine.
there’s a reason smaller pots were recommended to start, it’s because yeah once they have an established rootball going maybe they can be directly transplanted into a larger living soil pot that has even moisture all the time. Imo those plants (and more importantly their roots) are just way to small for those pots and that level of watering. As somebody else said earlier in here if you started with smaller shots of water and worked your ways up to half gallons per day (as thats 10% of your container volume) as your root mass grew with your size of waterings they’d probably be better off. Watch some buildasoil series if you’re going for the living soil approach, can literally follow entire runs start to finish on YouTube.

So, should I have expected better growth for 2 weeks from sprouting with a dry back?

.5 gallons a day divided by 3, time 7 gives me just over a gallon a week. I did the math before I started

I am giving them a combined 1/2 gallon a day
Sorry I didn’t realize that but still any water that isn’t being consumed by the roots by the next time you water each day is just water logging said roots and that 5 gallons of soil. Are you getting runoff at all? Are you feeling the pots for weight before watering?

That's assuming established plants and not seedlings in 5 gals, I think its over watering personally I'll be curious to follow along and see how it goes man! Don't be discouraged by anyone sorry if i'm coming across too adamant.

It's all good, just been told I've been over watering this whole time. When I let them dry out, they stunted and looked yellow. Watering every day at this amount seems to help them grow. Atleast faster than my buddy who grew the same seed pack last season outdoor in salt nutes‍♂

Week 3 from sprout. So, I pushed the lights too hard. I was going off of Riker, and the other girls got scorched a little. I then decided (like and idiot) to combat that with... guess what.... yup, more water. Big mistake. I have now readjusted the lights and adjusted the watering. Riker has been flourishing and reached her 6th node. I topped her and started the mainlining. Twista and Droopy appear to be about 5 days behind Riker, so plan will be to do a Nugbucket Mainline on Riker, and then try Nebula manifold on Twista and Droopy. Hopefully that will ler them all catch up at the end, plus I wanted to see how the 2 differ anyways.
Biggest lesson is the listen to the plants, they will tell you what they want. Currently running the tent at 78F and 58%rh seems to be their sweet spot.

Looks like cabbage. Hanging in there. If it was my grow id prob water them once every 3 to 5 days from the size of them and the pots. I know its coco but is just what i would do. Why water everyday if u dont have to. I barely pay attention to my seed pops till they get some good size. As long as they r good and cruising is better to leave em alone they r so fragile.

Heres a quick update. 6 weeks from sprout tomorrow

Riker - 16 top mainline

Twista - 8 tops

Droopy - I'm just glad she is alive at this point. Not expecting much more than the lessons learned, but what if her buds are something special??? Lol

I was thinking about top dressing this weekend and then flipping next. Is that too soon?
