Clones in soil

I’m going to try cut and grow some clones for the first time I just wanted to make sure I had everything and If someone could send a link to a good clone soil guide, I have a plastic dome,rootcubes,clone x is there anything else I’m missing ? I was thinking doing a 45 degree cut in a cup of clone x and then straight into the cube and to put them in the dome in the veg tent at the bottom with little light. Will this work or am I missing something? Then if they finally root will just pot into all mix Biobizz or may this be too hot and need a lighter soil?. Any help be great just didn’t wanna waste my time and any tips be great so though I ask before cutting some.

I’ve taken my first cuts,fingers crossed they root when should I check on them when no more mist inside to respray the dome? I’ve put some wet tissue in the bottom of each pot with the root cube on top to keep more humidity inside is this wise or are the roots might grow through it ? I have closed the dome vents aswell with some white paper on top of the lid as useing a 100w led for vegging plants and thinking might be too bright.

Just be sure you aren't keeping the cubes too moist. Every other day I remoisten them with 6.5 ph water (the cubes are quite acidic being peat based) and then gently squeeze most of that water back out-don't crush it, just squeeze until the dripping slows down, like you're wringing out a wet sponge to wipe something down. Once you get that part perfect, it only takes a week on average to get roots. I just made clones of two strains, just one each, and they each formed roots on the same day-day 7. But when I first started cloning, my parameters weren't perfect and it took 20-30 days, and I ended up with horrible yellow plants that took weeks to get back to normal looking. My very best was 2 days from cut to roots sticking out of a root riot cube, but that's down to the specific plant. Anyway, you can always DM me if these don't form roots and I'll be happy to help!

Thank you for the great info and will dm you if need any help, there 6 days old. the cube just felt a bit damp not wet so I just sprayed the cube lightly. but will do what you said from now on and just before i got them out the dome on one had just a little mist on it.

I think you are on track for roots in the next few days. Spray the lid, but not the leaves, and squeeze out excess water carefully-because there might be roots just underneath, and you'll be good.

Congrats! I'd give them just a little more time to push few a few more roots before you pot them up. Start "hardening" them off by leaving the dome open for short periods of time, like 30 min a few times per day-keep an eye on them to make sure they don't go limp. Then in a day or two, when they have about the amount of roots as your best plant there, repot them, but still keep an eye on them-they should be fine at that point but if any of them wilt, put a ziploc bag over the pot and take more time hardening it off. Great job on your first clones!

Thanks for the help and great advice. I will do if any wilt,I’m surprised to see them that quick as I checked them Saturday to spray the dome and was none at all. And I did cut a few more just to be sure which are in a different dome and just sliced a bit more tissue of the stems before I dipped so will see if they root too.

That's good, practice makes perfect! Cloning is a great skill to have, just to know you can take a cut of a prized or elite plant, and 100% know you will be able to root it.

Going to start cloning soon. This method seems like one of the easiest ways to go and pretty effective. Going to use a dome. Was going to use a heat mat as well but it seems like it is warm enough in my tent without one. Thank you for the post.

Yeah not sure why I didn’t try years ago! I haven’t tryed these plants yet but pretty sure there be a keeper if not two. If the barneys farm Glookies anything like I did earlier in the year. I just done the Glookies again, mimosa x orange punch and there new geleto45. Only over a week into flowering the plants. But can’t wait see how they turn out.

Sounds good, I hope you find something tasty in there! One good practice is to just take a cutting of every seed you pop, and keep those cuttings in a separate veg tent (you can keep them in party cups and just keep pruning them as small as possible )while you flower out the originals. Then once you sample the buds, you can evaluate whether or not you want to keep the cut, then just compost everything else. That way you never lose a potential "elite" cut.
