Good luck trading with them in a few years if you don't do anything about carbon emissions. We don't give a fuck about your internal politics, America just controls 20% of the global economy these days 4% of the global population with 20% of the carbon emissions. The same goes for Canada, but we at least have a responsive government, with climate change and fuel shortages in Europe, I expect renewables, energy storage and green new grids to take off there. Sooner or later there will be punitive action taken against countries who don't play ball.

i'm just saying that they're bringing in a lot of equipment, most runways are probably under heavier use than intended, with heavier loads than usual, and the weather is unusually hot...that spells trouble.
they build things differently in different parts of the world...i lived in Mn. in the 80s, they bury water and sewer lines 6 feet deep, to keep them from freezing every winter. i line in Tn. now, and they bury the lines so shallowly that you NEED to have a guy come out and mark where the water lines are if you're going to do something like till a garden up...the water comes out of the cold tap warm enough to take a shower in by late afternoon in the summer...
they HAVE to bury the lines up north, so they do, they don't have to in the south, so they don't.
the Germans never HAD to build anything to stand up to that kind of heat, because it hardly even happens there, so they didn't build for it...

18 wheelers don't hit the runway dropping out of the sky, this multiplies the load on the asphalt covering the 18" of concrete underneath and it causes ruts in the runway like a back country road as the warm soft asphalt squishes around under the pounding. They will most likely resurface the runways with a more appropriate mix and strip off the old shit, it mostly protects the concrete underneath. Resting a hammer on a nail won't drive it, pounding it with the hammer will.

I understand stand this all. Im just surprised by it. Guess I just figured a runway, particularly the biggest military airport in any country never mind a nato country would be overbuilt far beyond what’s expected. We’ve all seen runways destroyed by bombs and missles which is something im sure they do their best . Kinda like another target like bunker or what have you. The tales of super thick reinforced concrete on the german u boat caves/ ports as an example. Yes its not quite the same but again im not denying its hot af or something is wrong with climate, just surprised a powerful nations military in 2022 can’t withstand the 30 or so degrees above normal……

And since this has happened once in the last forever, it makes sense to wait a couple three days for the heat to pass so they don't do damage to runways that are going to still see lots of use day after day for months or years to come. Because Ukraine is going to continue to need help to escape from the rapist next door.

the last 6 years have been far from "normal" in many ways...the world changes, and in the last 6 or 7 years, it's changed a LOT...
when Germany built those u boat berths, they were at war, and expected to be bombed...they haven't been in an armed conflict since WW2, except for participation in NATO actions, which aren't the same as the German military participating directly in a fight.
They aren't on a war footing, and haven't been in over 70 years. They've become industrialist, which isn't a bad thing, but the only expansion they're interested in anymore is expanding their economy.
i'm guessing the only reason they even have that airbase is because of their NATO membership

it's just ridiculously frustrating, having watched for the last 40 years as scientist and expert have given alarms, every year, year after year, and now people are acting like it's their fault for not warning them...
i wouldn't give a fuck, honestly, i'm probably not going to live long enough to see the water wars, the fights for areas that are still fertile, the mass exodus from the cities as the heat melts down the infrastructure ....except for all the kids that are going to have to live through the results of our greed and stupidity. they will build monuments to our stupidity, as warning for their children to never make the incredibly stupid and shortsighted mistakes we allowed out leaders to make
