I like to compare pictures of the same stage of growth from my past grows to see where I'm at, and if my experiments have resulted in reduced or greater growth. The two main differences in my current grow vs my last grow is an increase in N during flower + Spirulina instead of seaweed, and using 2 gal pots vs 3.5. I predicted a smaller harvest this time due to the smaller pot size, since I'm only feeding twice per day, that means a smaller pot will have a smaller root system and will dry out faster. A smaller root mass will deplete the ideal nutrient concentration at the root/soil interface more quickly than a larger root mass, given similar sized plants-thus, my current crop has been exposed to an ideal nutrient concentration for less time than my last crop in larger pots. I could correct this by simply adding a 3rd feed-but I'm not interested in automation or in waking up in the middle of the night to feed. Also, the fact that these are all different strains comes into play as well, here are the two shots taken at 6 weeks (ish):

This is my last grow-notice the lighter colored leaves and more advanced bud development.

Current grow-IMO I went slightly overboard with N as I experimented with Spirulina dosage. I think I have it down at 1/4 teaspoon/3 gallons every other feed now, and I'll be using that from the beginning next time. The other factor is strains: these comparisons don't mean a whole lot when you are comparing 8 different strains. Last time I had a strain that yielded 1 lb for the plant, and another that yielded 1-2 oz. I almost never use exactly the same nutrient formula because experimenting is so fun, but I always take good notes so I can reproduce any of my grows. So far I'm happy with things are at with the higher N, so lets see how they finish up! One change that I will make in the future is to use the 3.5 gallon pots when sticking with 2 feeds in my 4x4. I will continue to use 2 gal pots in the 3x3, BUT I will also stick to smaller 8 branch mainlines in that tent, rather than cover the canopy in growth tips as I did in my current 3x3.

Here is another interesting study on amino-acid supplementation in Cannabis. My soy hydrolysate powder "agmino" brand is 80% amino acids, but Spirulina is 60% amino acids by dry weight, so it definitely works as a stand alone amino acid product if you are looking for one. This study showed a massive increase in terpenes with amino acid supplementation in Cannabis-a REAL terp enhancer! https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpls.2022.868350/full
I would pick one or the other, soy hydrolysate or spirulina, but not both, that's too much protein-you'll "beefcake" your girls out too much.

.

"Spirulina (powder format): a sea algae with a high content of phosphorus, potassium, trace elements, minerals, amino acids, vitamins, chlorophyll, and proteins. It stimulates bacterial life in the soil and works very well in oxygenated compost tea. It is the richest and most complete organic fertiliser that there is. "

Rurumo what form do you use - liquid or powder? Where do you buy your's and how much is it?

Thanks.

Right now, I'm just using the spirulina I had bought previously to take myself, so when I do buy more, I'll let you guys know what brand I go with. But I've researched in the past and what I'm going to do is find the best deal for a Spirulina that isn't sourced in China, just to avoid heavy metal issues. I know India and Taiwan both make high quality spirulina, as do Hawaii and California, and various brands carry all of those on Amazon. This stuff I have now Is California Gold brand and is like $14 for 8 oz-but I think there are much cheaper brands, and I'm not sure how much it matters for this purpose. The really dark spirulina is the good stuff, it should almost look black. The dosage I've settled on is 1/4 teaspoon per 3 gallons. That gives a very noticeable result, and I'm feeding that every other feeding. It's a very economical supplement, it's like super concentrated seaweed + amino acids in one. I started with 1/4 teaspoon per gallon every feeding and that amount really made my plants too green. I've been feeding 1 teaspoon per 4 gallons to my garden plants outside just to give them a nitrogen boost. Also a great foliar, but be careful because it absorbs really well that way and can cause nitrogen toxicity if your plants are already well fed.

I was only able to skim quickly through the article you posted for now but I'll re-read when I get more time but didnt I see reduced THCA with plants supplemented with amino acids? More terps but lower THC?

That part is really badly worded, but the way I read it, that was lower THC in the drain to waste plants vs the recirculating systems-which is weird in an of itself, but that decline wasn't related to the amino acid treatment. They also said their drain to waste plants finished 4 weeks early, which is also weird. I've never heard of a significant difference between hydro methods and finishing early, or of one significantly raising the THC% over another.

The girls are progressing nicely, everyone's starting to swell, except for the Flapjacks whose buds look like little wisps of cotton candy. The NSFSHEEESH is looking killer, but the others are all looking good too. Honestly, this has been a great run for this group of polyhybrids and I'm glad I finally tried a GSC cross-I can see why people liked it so much. I will be glad to get back to landraces and 90s strains again though-the single biggest difference between my last couple of grows and this one is terps-all of these plants have weak terps compared to the OGs and Sour D I've grown recently. It's the main problem with the "Costco Bakery" type terps that people have been going for-they're just weak compared to the classics. You know you are getting potent medicine when you smell that classic OG or Sour Diesel goodness. This week I took more bud shots than usual.

Here is one so you can see the size of these.

IMG_20220605_042903227_HDR.jpg
FlapJacks-The terps are weak and the bud structure is funny, not dense bud extremely frosty, I actually kind of like this plant

IMG_20220605_043626908_HDR.jpg
Jelly Breath-small plant but nice looking little buds

IMG_20220605_042914879_HDR.jpgIMG_20220605_044125320.jpg
Apples and Bananas X Medellin-This will be the best yielder of the bunch-hard to pin down what the terps will be like right now

IMG_20220605_043715493_HDR.jpg
NSFSHEESH-next 3 pics-this has been an awesome plant from day 1

I can't believe this, I waited for Promix connect to become available in the USA for a long time- It's a 6,000 propagule/gram mycorrhizae product, and is definitely on the pricey side, but I've always wanted to try a higher concentration of mycorrhizae propagules just to see if it makes a difference in colonization time during our short indoor cannabis cycles. Anyway, I guess it's been available in the USA for a few months and it's already on closeout sale LOL https://growgreenmi.com/new-pro-mix-connect-250-grams. I'll use this in my next grow to test it out. You can compare the # of propagules per gram to judge the comparative worth of a myco product, so even at $50 which is dirt cheap for Promix Connect, it still "seems" high for a myco product until you compare the concentration. It's over 6 times more concentrated than the next highest concentration product out there. Anyway, if you want to try the strongest myco product on the market, this is a great sale!

Your a good grower. Can’t wait for my NFSHEEEESH to get big I’m expecting something good. I’m also growing greenhouse seeds super lemon haze, lemon skunk. I’m growing some stuff from the Perfect Tree seed company. I’m growing Ethos seed company Orange velvet underground x super lemon haze. I want to grow greenhouse seeds Persian pie ( new release).I’m growing outside in Hawaii. I will share after they get bigger.
When I used to grow indoors I used 1000 watt High pressure sodium and Metal halide. They used tons of electricity. These new LED grow lights loook really cool. Can you recommend a high quality LED grow light? I’m interested in something that’s lower power or watts like 100 or 200 watts. Something that doesn’t draw much power. Thanks

The light really depends on the footprint you want to light. A lot of these are made for the typical grow tent sizes, like 4x4, 3x3, 2x4, and 2x2, what size space do you want to light up with the light for your purposes? I would keep an eye on the "deals" thread here for some good light deals too. It really depends on what you want to do with it, and what your budget is. Do you want to flower plants indoors or grow cuttings to later plant outside? I envy people who can grow outside in Hawaii, that's so cool! I'd love to see some pics once you've got them going.

Yes an LED grow light just for clones, seedlings, veging. I’m mostly relying on the sun. I want something high quality and small doesn’t use much power. Do you recommend any brands or models?

I just wanted to thank you for giving us the cloning trick with Solo cups and damp paper towels. I've had to do some trial and error and my other cloning methods have been giving me just as many fits but I just went to check on one of my OG Kush clones and my first success with your method. Way better roots than the ones I took out of the aerocloner earlier today too.

Same exact plant taken at the same time. It's hard to see in my crappy pic but the Solo cup one had much thicker fuzzy roots. I just had extra cuttings so I thought I'd try a couple in the Solo cups. Thanks again for the easy cloning method. Now I just need to get my rates up and I'm all good.

Where do we read about this "Solo cup trick"? Link?
