Well...Here she is after 15 weeks in flower ("How far can ripeness be pushed?")....

Chemdozer was supposed to be a 10-week strain...but we all know how that goes...

The plants went through several different phases of smells as the flowers were allowed to age beyond the recommended stage. By the time I chopped the two plants, they were so drained of chlorophyll. even the stems and stalks had turned yellow. There were only a few remaining non-sugar leaves when they were chopped...and those were small. The plant basically lolipopped itself. Several of the upper sugar levels had started to get a bit crisp. When I hung these plants, I almost over-dried them at 6 days. When I trimmed them up and got them into the jars, the humidity was as low as 55% and the highest was 61%. So, I sealed them up to cure for several months...but I had to try a bit of it, first, of course.

The fragrance is straight up Vick's vapor rub and Coppertone suntan lotion (only a few may remember this smell!). The taste of the smoke is hash with a bit of that vapor rub flavor coming through. The smoke is very smooth and the high is much closer to the old school type of high -really red eyes, happy kind of vibe. It is very sticky and oily.

I was kind of hoping for more of a chem/diesel/gassy thing, but this flavor was an unexpected surprise in and of itself. There's no fruit to it. There's no cookie dough. No cheese. Mostly a hash taste. Hey, I'll take it!

I'm never harvesting a plant too early ever again. The extra time is where some of the secret sauce is at. I've confirmed that for myself, now. even when you're sure that it's ripe....push it a bit farther!

Well, you know how it goes...You spend almost half a year nurturing the plants from a seed.....the everyday routines start to set in....the high expectations....Then, when the day finally comes to chop them down, you know you've put the time and care in on them. When you finally get to taste them, they are going to taste great....sometimes even if they don't really taste that great. You will say that the high is great....sometimes when the high really isn't that great. In other words, there's almost always a little bias in there.

Once you get your growing environment dialed in, then it's really just a matter of the genetic material determining the rest. Chemdozer turned out to be a very nice strain -better than average and certainly better than what is available on the commercial market (flower I mean). But, I'm still searching for a modern strain that will hit the old school flavor bullseye.

My reasoning was to try and get strains that are closer to the older genetics. ChemDOG was one of those old(er) strains that carried on that pungent terpene thing that went missing. But, as it turns out, the two phenotypes of ChemDOZER that I got, have a terpene profile that does possess an older, black Afghani hash taste...but combined with an unexpected menthol/eucalyptus/petroleum vapor rub component. That may be a result of allowing the flowers to ripen to 15 weeks, too.....I'm not sure. I'm just glad that it didn't turn out to be fruity or have just another "OG" or "cookie dough" taste. I've had enough of those already. Now, when I look at descriptions of strains, I gravitate towards the burned rubber/gasoline/diesel/creosote tar kind of spectrum. But, man, it's always a crapshoot because someone else's idea of gassy/diesel...etc. doesn't always match up with the next person's.

Archive also has a strain called Ginger Tea or something like that, which is supposed to have a Thai genetic in it. Now, personally, IF I thought I could get something that would end up tasting like the old Thai weed that I remember from the 70's, then I'd pay just about any price for some seeds. But, my instincts tell me that whatever someone says is Thai, isn't really Thai...or isn't "THE" Thai. Because the real Thai is what I dream about. It had the best flavor of any weed I've ever smoked....and it was an indescribable flavor.

Anyway...sorry for the ramble -just smoked some of this Chemdozer! XD

wow man that's a long time. did you take cuts? they are supposed to finish a little quicker. like the other guy said though if you're in no rush. that ginger tea though while I'm sure its real nice I'm not sure it would be what you're looking for either, have grown out a few moonbow crosses and they tend to lean candy. maybe shoot for like the catpiss cross from them or a doghshit. I could see them being more old school herb if you get what im sayin also grimace og ended more pine and rubber for me.

I like that "Mostly hash taste". I've been looking for that for years. Found that a lot in weed back in the late 60s through the 70s. I'd probably grab some of these if they come back around.

Anything from thugpug taste like hash imo. If grown healthy and correctly with no error. Garlicbreath2.0 changed me over from my og kush craze (which will always be there). But if your looking for hash taste. High THC strains with high concentration level per trich head are what give you that over whelming beautiful flavor. Cali connection has a ton of fuel hashy strains. What they’re known for.

I've had a couple of Lucky Dog strains that almost hit the mark. Guerilla Fume' and Double Krush both have nice earthy/hash flavors. I'll try some Thug Pug. Thanks!

Good on you for letting it grow for as long as it takes! Nothing can beat the Chem/Sour/OG fam for good terps except for the Afghani landrace plants that have the same and so much more too-it just takes time to search through them for your perfect example. I love that hashy flavor, looks like you ended up with some dank.

Don't get Ginger Tea. I was looking for OG Thai onion funk but crossed with the Moonbow I'm getting candy terps. I'm liking it tho & it's probably the terpiest plant I'm running now. When I rub fans leaves to get a smell my fingers come back greasy not sticky. Some OG gas is starting to develop late in flower but only enough to complement the candy scents. Definitely save your money & time on something else if looking for old school flavors.
