the media and pundits should be held responsible for the consequences of their broadcasted opinions

i've hated Bill Maher since the first time i watched him smugly, sanctimoniously brosplain his bigoted opinions. tucker carlson willfully, hatefully, gleefully lies to millions of people every day, doing irreparable harm to the nation and its people. joe rogan admits he is a fucking moron, and no one should listen to him, and then continues to push the most idiotic conspiracy theories to the most gullible of listeners....
the national news outlets push stories they feel they can make money off of, while ignoring stories that are just as or more important. informing the people of the truth is less important than making a dollar, even when it leads to national catastrophes like trump being elected president.
bill maher is not a psychologist, he studied english and history at Cornell university, an ivy league elitist school. he has no more qualifications to make these kind of statements than carlson has to tell the lies and half truths he gets away with calling facts...it's time to make these people accountable for the damage they are causing the country as a whole, certain minorities within the country, and specific individuals within those broader minorities.

It's a mixed bag, putting it in one sentence sells it short. At least it's smart. There are things to argue and debate, the bar is low.

Fully agree with the title of your thread. There is a long list of liars at CNN, MSNBC, and Fox that broadcast “news” that is merely opinion or flat out conspiracy that has been a detriment to society as a whole. Just think of how the false stories about Russia collusion fueled years of conspiracy millions bought in to

you’re living in a fantasy world if you actually believe that. MSNBC and CNN are full dishonest big egos with an agenda to push the democratic platform and talking points as news. For every comment or segment that is pure opinion/fake you would ding fox on, there are just as many from MSNBC and CNN. You appear to view life through a very narrow lens. Fox pushes an agenda, I acknowledge that.

thanks for dumping your bullshit into my thread about the press dumping bullshit on America...
good illustration of my point...there is no penalty for spreading lies and misinformation, if there was, you would just shut the fuck up and disappear

I kinda like Bill, he does point out some issues with the left that need addressing, if they want to get elected and some issues should take a back seat for now and others emphasized. He offers comedic opinion, but does do a bit of both sides are the same, when they are. He gave Obama a million bucks and complained, ya woulda thought I loaned him a million bucks when he was reluctant to appear. This kind of intense situation in America breeds tribalism and that means a certain bit of social pressure to conform from both sides. One side shuns and shits on ya and the other threatens to kill ya! He is on the side of liberal democracy, but I think his classic take on absolute freedom of speech is a bit off. If a younger generation thinks the humor of older comedians is in bad taste, that is nothing new in America.

The way to deal with the likes of Tucker Carlson is to change the regulations and law. Then you can "assist" Tucker getting his message across, by hauling him in before an FCC panel, to merely repeat what he said on his show under oath for the CSPAN cameras. The aim is not to suppress Tuckers free speech, we just want to make sure we understand him correctly and give him a platform for his ideas, under oath.

Something I'd like to see, Don Rickles does Harvard, Don knew how to deal with hecklers, he'd be lucky to get out of the place a alive! Better yet, see him at a trump rally telling the audience exactly what they were!

Ok you get one link, with one prime example. Takes two seconds to find video evidence if you’re just brave enough to step outside your safe space.

Just think of all the poor souls that believed those talking points, then regurgitated them in conversation or on social media….

Im sorry Roger. I agreed with your point (although I kinda like 60% of what Maher says) I just have a slightly different perspective on who is in the liars club

wtf is that? a link to a bullshit "mini-documentary" from glenn greenwald? tucker carlson's frequent guest?....that's proof to you?...¿
i won't say greenwald is stupid, far from it, but he is biased, so your proof is the opinion of one biased person?

How is the content of the video any less true if it is her own words? Are you suggesting all of that is doctored? EVERYONE is biased. No one is without opinion. Of course Greenwald has an agenda - like every other ego in news and politics

It’s all theater. Contemporary barkers selling tickets to a predetermined audience.

Fox/OAN/Nmax segments start with a kernel of truth but ultimately fly so far down the rabbit hole of scripted nonsense any tie to fact is drowned in ominous hyperbole. What they are selling is fear. Fear that the audiences way of life and culture is in danger. Fear is a fantastic sales tactic.

MSNBC/CNN stories have a firmer foothold on truth and typically maintain that central theme in the segment but their delivery is just as much crafted for consumption. They sell ego. You are right. They are wrong. Their wrongness is so absurd that you can’t understand how they aren’t more enlightened and smart like YOU. Ego is a fantastic sales tactic.

These days I get my news from the weatherman and a rare PBS news hour.

Have you considered memes??????

All the news, less of the drama. They also come in a range of delightful holiday themed scents.

Edit: 3rd paragraph is accurate. I don't know what to do about it though. That whole "we know better than experts in the field" thing has been weaponized and seems to now be a permanent tactic.
