Pro-Trump ‘electors’ in Wisconsin hit with first-of-its-kind lawsuit
A lawsuit filed by a group of Wisconsin residents on Tuesday takes aim at the Trump backers who claimed to represent the state’s valid slate of 2020 presidential electors, despite President Biden’s victory there.

The first-of-its-kind litigation seeks to hold accountable a dozen named defendants it accuses of perpetrating a fraudulent scheme to undermine democracy by attempting to bypass the will of Wisconsin voters — and to deter similar efforts in the future.

“This is not how we do elections in the United States,” said Mary McCord, executive director of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at Georgetown University, one of the public interest groups backing the lawsuit. “When your candidate loses, you don’t get to just go and vote and submit your ballots as though your candidate won.”

The 55-page complaint, filed in state court by a group of Wisconsin citizens that includes two democratically chosen electors for Biden, claims the alleged electoral scheme ran afoul of Wisconsin and federal law even though it was unsuccessful. The plaintiffs are seeking a ruling declaring that defendants illegally usurped the role of Wisconsin’s 10 electors for Biden and undermined voters’ legal authority to elect the candidate of their choosing.

The defendants in the case comprise 10 allegedly fraudulent pro-Trump electors and two attorneys who helped coordinate their efforts.

“The individuals named in this case schemed to hijack Wisconsin’s role in selecting the president of the United States and to override the will of the voters,” Jeff Mandell, president and lead counsel at Law Forward, another public interest group backing the suit, said in a statement. “We must hold them accountable for their illegal, unprecedented, and profoundly anti-democratic actions.”

The plan to substitute slates of pro-Trump electors from key battleground states where former President Trump lost fell apart on Jan. 6, 2021, when former Vice President Mike Pence declined to reject Biden’s valid electors.

The Department of Justice and the House panel probing the Jan. 6 attack have both said they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the bid to put forth Trump electors from states won by Biden.
For sure they should be sued and prosecuted by the DOJ as part of a conspiracy to overturn the election. It wasn't just those who signed their name, they had enablers in the state houses and were organized and encouraged from the Whitehouse and members of congress participated and even voted and acted in it's support and planning. It was part of a massive wheel and spoke conspiracy, that had several interconnected plots, including the J6 capitol insurrection. Hundreds, thousands, if the rioters are included, should go to prison over this, some for a very long time.

i like it...but what does it accomplish besides giving them a black mark? does the ruling leave them open to some kind of criminal prosecution? if so, why don't they just criminally prosecute them to begin with?

What can I say?

Mullin legislation would expunge Trump Jan. 6 impeachment
Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) is leading a resolution that aims to erase former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack and repeats numerous arguments to cast doubt on the integrity of the 2020 election.

A copy of Mullin’s draft bill obtained by The Hill said that the incitement of insurrection impeachment charge “contains a subjective account of that which transpired at the Capitol on January 6, 2021” and “omits any discussion of the circumstances, unusual voting patterns, and voting anomalies of the 2020 Presidential election itself.”

Mullin, a former mixed martial arts fighter, lept into action to barricade doors to the House chamber during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, making his move to erase Trump’s impeachment after the attack particularly notable.

Why there isn't a special independent counsel is beyond me, it Mitch wants these guys fucked that's the way to go. However one of the functions of Cheney and why Mitch is supporting her, is to protect his treasonous senators like Hawley, Graham (A Georgia call like Trump's), and Cruz. If three or four of them got busted it might shake up the senate. MTG and others who played a part might be sweating over the recent news too, depending on their involvement and who rats out who.

In the several paragraphs the resolution spends addressing the 2020 election, it says that Trump won 18 of 19 so-called “bellwether counties” that have traditionally corresponded with the winner of the presidential election, and that Trump won more votes than he did in 2016. It mentions voting rules changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic and recount efforts being “vociferously opposed” by officials in some states.

The fifth-term congressman is running for Senate in Oklahoma, from which Sen. Jim Inhoffe (R) is retiring. Trump has not endorsed in that race, and Inhoffe endorsed his former Chief of Staff Luke Holland.

Mullin is expected to introduce the bill on Wednesday. His office sent an email to House Republican Congressional offices on Tuesday seeking support for the resolution, multiple GOP offices confirmed. The Daily Beast first reported Mullin’s planned introduction of the impeachment expungement proposal.

This is the second resolution from Mullin to expunge a Trump impeachment. He previously introduced a measure in March to expunge the Dec. 18, 2019 impeachment of Trump over his encouraging Ukraine to investigate the business dealings surrounding Hunter Biden, son of his 2020 election opponent and now-President Joe Biden, while discussing military aid to Ukraine. That measure got cosponsorship from seven Republicans, including Rep. Ronny Jackson (Texas), Rep. Barry Morre (Ala.), and Rep. Greg Steube (Fla.).

The Senate failed to reach the two-thirds majority required to convict Trump both times he was impeached.

The new resolution also takes issue with the process of the impeachment after Jan. 6, noting a lack of hearings and its hasty release. The fact that Supreme Court Justice John Roberts did not preside over the Senate impeachment trial, it says, was “perfecting the entirety of the process as nothing more than an unconstitutional exercise in futility, moot, and fantastical political theater.”

Mullin declined to comment until after official introduction of the bill.
Primary season, how did Trump do in his district? This is a way to get his endorsement, whoever wins the nominations gets elected, no matter who or what they are, as long as it's republican. Bet he plays Dixie on the ole dog whistle too.

House 1/6 Panel Rejects Justice Dept.'s Transcript Request
The House panel investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is rejecting a request from the Justice Department for access to the committee’s interviews, for now.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the committee’s chairman, said Tuesday that the Justice Department had made the request as part of its ongoing criminal investigation into the attack. But he said it was “premature” for the committee to share its work at this point because the panel’s probe is ongoing.

The Justice Department’s request comes as prosecutors have been issuing subpoenas and seeking interviews with people who had been involved in planning events leading up to the attack on the Capitol last year. The request to the House panel — which has conducted more than 1,000 interviews so far — exemplifies the breadth of the Justice investigation into one of the largest attacks on democracy in American history.

The Justice Department and Attorney General Merrick Garland have faced mounting pressure to prosecute former President Donald Trump since the Jan. 6 House committee laid out an argument for what its members believe could be a viable criminal case against the former president.

The Justice investigation — the largest criminal investigation in U.S. history — has largely focused on prosecuting those who stormed the Capitol, pushing past and beating overwhelmed police officers until they were bloodied and bruised, in an attempt to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential win. In the 16 months since the insurrection, more than 800 people have been arrested and around 280 of them have pleaded guilty to a variety of federal charges.

Garland has given no public indication about whether prosecutors might be considering a case against Trump. He has vowed, though, to hold accountable “all January 6th perpetrators, at any level” and said that would include those who wete “present that day or were otherwise criminally responsible for the assault on our democracy.”

Thompson said the panel had shared some information with federal, state and local agencies but they could only review it in a specified location — a common government practice with sensitive documents known as an in-camera review. It’s unclear which specific interviews or documents the Justice Department had sought.

“They made a request, and we told them that as a committee, the product was ours, and we’re not giving anyone access to the work product,” Thompson told reporters Tuesday.

“We can’t share it, the document, with them,” Thompson said. “Big difference ... we can’t give them unilateral access.”

The Senate intelligence committee had rejected a similar request as part of its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Could be factoring in the election in the fall and it might be a question of timing. They want their public hearing and report to have it's day in the sun. Indictments could mean hot info coming out and steal their thunder. However wrapping it up in a bow first does seem appropriate, it does show the DOJ is acting though and needs transcripts and other evidence before the FBI talks to the principals. It gives Garland much needed cover too and will get people off his back sure as shit.

Ya never know what might come out, but treason and sedition are not issues for them and since they voted for Trump they are beyond a sense of shame.
